Deleting bc people eat too low...

Another thread got me thinking...People often say they delete friends for eating too low, do you then also delete people who are constantly over? How does having an "under eating" problem deserve less support than an "over eating" problem? Do those people NOT deserve the same support and care that someone who struggle with overeating?

idk honestly. I think they mean that they do not want to support unhealthy eating habits or something they deem as eating disorder behavior. But still, I do not see how they do not deserve support and encouragement. I personally do not have many friends and do not have any friends that under eat like that ( I dont even really check on it bc im not their mommy) unless they ask I do not generally give an opinon. I just say nice things and try to be supportive. Thats what this is for.

I've only deleted friends who had a near negative net calorie total for the week.

I go over a couple hundred calories all the time...

My friends could eat cats for all I care.
  • I delete anyone that doesn't eat exactly what their macros show they are supposed to eat. I expect everyone to be PERFECT!

I'd also like to point out that what "too low" to one person is "just right" for someone else.

I mean, if someone is only eating 300 calories a day, I get it. But I've seen people use much higher and perfectly healthy number to determine "too low."

Personally, I don't even look at people's diaries unless specifically asked. I'm not here to babysit adults. If I like you, I won't delete you. :-)

I do not delete because of your diet unless you want to be 80lbs, but I delete if your not dedicated to being here everyday and being honest with yourself and taking responsibilty for your actions. I personally don't understand all the hoop-la. But whatever, I don't want to be friends with those who think they know it all anyways, I don't have the patience to put up with perfection and know it all's.

I just think both under eating and over eating are basically the same "issue" just a different response...I feel bad about myself so I will only eat lettuce and ice chips or I feel bad about myself so I will eat 5 Big Macs. Yet, the first gets bashed and the second gets babied.

Insert wholly inappropriate joke using synonym for 'cat' here.

How many calories do Cats have anyway? Could be a new source of protein...

I guess it's similar to there being so many people who would bite the head off of anyone criticizing someone for being overweight but then posts a thread about "skinny*****es." And they think that's OK to do.

I don't really care what you eat because I'm my own person and don't have to eat like you " the 500cal person"
I've been deleted though from someone friend's list because I didn't sign in for a week..... sorry I went on vacation

LOL well I was deleted because they "thought" I ate too low. I do not have an eating disorder and never have. I am small. I need less food. Some people don't get that. And the girl who deleted me had a history of eating disorders so she just had a hard time with me. It's okay. :) I feel bad for her though.

I try to eat as close to 1200 calories as I can but I DO NOT eat my calories back so my "NET" may be low but I have eaten plenty of food. You also have to remember some people have had weight loss surgery and cannot eat as much as others. I have a friend that has had that done and she is lucky to get in 1000 calories but as long as it is not 1000 of junk she will be fine. I find the healthier I eat the harder it is for me to meet my calories. If I am starving I eat if I am not hungry I will not eat 200 calories just to reach 1200. I do not want to encourage those who admit they have a eating disorder and are not concerned about it but some may be trying to get past an eating disorder and are trying their best. I am not a "clean eater" and I have people fuss all the time about processed food...I am losing weight and I am healthier than I have ever been so I just ignore that. Some of the Whole Market foods are just way overpriced and not as healthy as you might think. It is called "marketing"........

Just think how many calories you would burn trying to catch the said cat. i know mine have a sixth sense if i want to catch them ( for flea drops not eating) and scarper.

Move to Panama and you might get your wish. My friend went on a mission there and noticed the whole time she was only two cats. Seemed, well, different.

I actually do understand people with a history of ED not wanting people on their list who eat a small amount, even if it's a healthy amount for that person. I think that can be tough.

It's the people who don't have that history who make me shake my head. I mean, a 5'3" woman just doesn't need the same calories as a 5'10" woman, no matter how much exercise she does.

If someone has or had an eating disorder then being around people who chronically under-eat could be a trigger for the person who is trying to avoid that behavior. Other than that, I don't know why someone would want to remove people for the sole reason that they under-eat.

I only delete when it has been a month or longer since logging in and that is when I do not even really know the person because they never commented or supported me.
  • Some people, like myself, have had weight loss surgery. I can NOT physically take in that many calories. I am lucky to get in my protein for the day. I can two to three ounces at a time.

I've had people that have added me only to delete me because I had surgery too

Oh well, I could really care less...

If my friends eat under their goal, I don't care. If they eat over, it's on them! I sure hope whatever they ate was really good ;)
I will say this: If my under eating or over eating upsets anyone on my friends list, please, by all means, delete me! Because I don't want some crazy person obsessing that I ate In 'N Out last night or that I only had 1,100 calories the day before.
  • Some of us who are on a strictly controlled diet, (HMR in my case) tend to be consistently low on the caloric intake. Every day I get a "warning" from myfitnesspal that says I'm eating too little, but I'm doing what the plan calls for. So, unless you know exactly why your friend is low, you should probably live and let live (IMHO).

I agree with you, OP. People struggle with all types of eating issues. And some MFP members seem to have an elitist "my way is the only way" attitude. But the reality is that the person who was dropped is probaby better off because their former "friend" was unlikely to be supportive anyway.

Seriously, I think the real issue they mean is they delete someone who is regularly eating "too low" and doesn't want help for it. Or, more accurately, someone who promotes eating too few calories.

Me, I delete people if they give up-like they don't log in for two months with no explanation.
I delete people if they put up an offensive profile picture. I don't need to see it every time I log in.
Or if their behavior on the list is just plain annoying.

So far, only the first has occurred, and that only once or twice. I don't go policing the list regularly or anything.

I will eventually delete anyone (over or under) who is not sticking to the plan. I'll support them for awhile but.....you can't help someone who won't help themselves.
