jlb123: WOW, WOW, WOW! great job on loosing those inches.

lildebbie: wise evaluation on your goal weight. Remember that the BMI is a guideline. I like the BMI charts that take into account age, height, and body frame. Remember too that genetics are a huge part of your body build. We have friends that have fraternal twins. They are now 20 years old and one looks like his dads side, thin - medium frame, the other twin looks like is moms side, heavier ( but still thin they carry their weight bulkier if that makes sense) on a large frame. They are close to the same height but they will never weigh the same. Good ole' genetics that we can thank great great somebody on.

zorahope: Throwing you a high five! One pound added to another then another and you will be down 5 pounds. Then 5 more, and down you go. One pound a week is a healthy rate to loose at.

    Last week: 204.4
    This week: 203.4

I can't find what I last weighed in at, but I'm at 207 now, which is down -2.8 from my weigh in at the gym last night, 1.3%
If you go to "check in" and "edit previous entries" you can see all the past weights you've entered!

I know I'm posting an awful lot today but I've been so busy at work all week and I'm just not feeling it today.

    I found this rather eye-opening website: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm

This website tells me that people my height, weight, and age find the "idea" body weight for me is 162. 162 is only 71 pounds away!! That seems like a lot until you take into account that I've already lost over half of that! I'm 1/3 of the way to 162.

Also, my boyfriend randomly came across a study that showed slighly "overweight" people (according to the possibly unrealistic bmi chart) were actually HEALTHIER than folks who were at "healthy" weights or underweight. Certainly 70 pounds isn't "slightly" overweight, but 13 pounds (at 162) is. Maybe there's something to this. I'll see if I can find the study.

Of course, my ultimate goal is to feel healthy. Whether I feel better at 160 or 150 or 140 can only be determined when I get there. Especially since I've never been there (at this height) before.

This is very intresting, I tried it and it set me at 175, which isnt far off from my goal 170. I have a very large frame that BMI doesnt account for. I did multiple body fat percentage calcutlations and a "fit" level for me to be at came out to be anywhere from 160-170 every time. People sometimes do underestimate their healthy weight, and it makes me so mad to see people still religiously using BMI as a guideline. I've known since I was young that BMI is a load of crap. When I was in middle school I was still playing sports, running around and riding my bike, but according to the doctor I was obese. BMI does NOT account for your frame size, which for some people, is substantialy larger than normal! Lumping every different human being into one catagory that's standardized is not the way to determine a healthy weight. 120 is healthy for one girl, but its anorexic for me.

Didn't lose anything this week, but since I just started really exercising again, I think it might be my muscles retaining water. Hopefully this coming week I will see the scale budge. I took some photos, and my body looks better, but the scale isn't moving. I will do some measurements, and see how those are doing :)

Exactly. Even the bmi charts that do attempt to calculate for "large" frames are off. It tells if someone my height has a wrist size of over 6.25", they have a "large" frame. My wrist circumference is 7.25". That's a whole lot more than someone with a wrist size of 6.26", yet we should weigh the exact same? But it's acceptable for them to weigh 20% more than someone the same height with a wrist size 0.27" smaller than theirs ("small" frame)? How does that make sense again? Oh yeah, it doesn't!

I keep telling people I'm trying to lose at least 80 more pounds and they look at me like I'm insane. And I'd still be about 10 pounds "overweight" by losing 80 more pounds according to the bmi, even accounting for my "large frame." I'm not denying that I'm severely overweight. That's obvious. It's just sad that so many people my size think they need to lose 120 more pounds to be "healthy" or "ideal" which discourages them so they just give up.

YOu know i had seen that website many many years ago...i forgot about it....I like that :) IT says people my age/weight the idea weight is 193, that is less than 100 lbs away for me. ....That is more like it :):)

I know i have what I think extra large frame too...come on i wear size 11 shoes, i definetly come from my dad side of the family, he isn't really big boned but his mom and one of his sisters were , i definetly come from that side. Then there is my sister who is 9 yrs old than me but she is a tooth pick. She is about 5'6 and weighs like 120lb soaking wet..wearing like a 2 or 4. I know i will never wear a 2 or 4...be happy with maybe 12 or 14. She definetly comes from my mom's side so yes i think genetics has a good deal to do with it. Same thing goes for hubby the stupid BMI says his "idea" weight is like under 200LBS. he is 6'3 and wears size 13-14 shoes..we both think at under 200 he would be soo rail thin.

I am happy with my choice to change my goal to 200 instead of 150...I have almost lost 20 lbs , i only need to do that like 4 1/2 more times and I am there.

Going to do it !!! If I am going to loose anything probobalby didn't need to eat a cookie for lunch :( Oh well just one cookie, life goes on, not like i ate a whole box of them (like I have in the past)

Overweight people live longer (I still have about 60 pounds to lose before I'm just "overweight")

Of course, there are a lot of variables. Obviously a person in the "healthy" weight range who has a healthy lifestyle is going to have less death risk than an "overweight" person who doesn't have a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle is key. Your actual weight, however, is less important.

Hey gals, No weight loss for me this week. did not expect any. I have been exerising but my eating is hit and miss. I also had tom pay a visit early.

I just read your talk about bmi's I hate those charts!! in high school I weighed 115 and was very thin. I got sick dropped to 110 and everyone was complaining I looked too thin. I say that I am 5'2 but my 16 year old's doctor says she is 5'2 and she is taller than me. Anyways I am quite short. I am med. boned and 110 looked too thin. The bmi charts say I should weight 104-137. 104:noway: I do not want to trade one bad look for another. I have given birth to 4 children. They say add 5 pounds for each baby. so if I add 20 pounds to 115, 135-140 should look pretty good. That is my goal. But it is still so far away and It depresses me so I just want to first get under 200, 199.9 would be fine.

jlb, thanks for sharing that website that is more realistic.

    Hi girls

Everyone is trying and that is great. We are going to the theatre tonight for a Christmas show.

    Calories: yes
Exercise: no (gave blood and they said no exercising for 24 hrs.)
    Water: will be close
Proud of: put calories in for dinner ahead of time so that I will not go over.

I am still having problems deciding on my "goal weight". Ideally I should be around 150, but can't even remember seeing that number on the scale, and with the extra skin for being overweight so long, I don't think I could realistically get there. I think I would look healthy at around 165-170 (I am only 5'4, but have a larger frame...and well big boobs and hips LOL)

I think for me, I am just going to have my goal to keep exercising and eating better, and see where it takes me.

    Here's a challenge:

If you don't get to work out because of shopping - do this:

Park in the furthest spot from the store entrance
Walk the entire store floor before you shop
DON'T eat anything from the mall food court!
Go to the sporting goods section and lift up a few weights
Squat down like you're looking at someting on a bottom shelf, then stand up again, do this the entire lengh of the aise

Anyone else have some ideas that can help "fill in" on those days when you don't get to exercise?

That's right, today's another day! Yesterday I had a few glasses of wine at a work party and then another when I got home, and then instead of having a pity party, I had a "spaghetti-celebration" with two full plates of pasta & sauce....:ohwell: today is another day!

Absolutely! Welcome! We do a few things here -
Most of us check in every day for accountability we answer these questions:
Did you stay within calories? (some of us post our actual calories consumed)
Did you exercise? (some of us post more detail)
Did you drink at least 8 cups of water?
What are you proud of today?

We post our weekly weigh-in on Fridays (I think a couple of folks weigh on different days & then post for the Friday weigh-in and that's fine). We also post our percentage lost for that week which determines our weekly biggest loser. The biggest loser chooses and posts our challenge for the week.

We're a pretty open group here, so I hope you feel free to share anything you want to share about yourself. :flowerforyou:

    Did I forget anything, ladies?

Also, as of this morning, I'M NO LONGER "MORBIDLY OBESE"!!!

I was trying on more clothes last night that I haven't been able to wear in years. I think I'm smaller than I've ever been since I've been with my boyfriend (3.5 years). Let's just say, I think he likes it. :blushing: I keep catching him looking at me all googly eyed.

jlb, you're a rock star!!!!!!!! :flowerforyou: Happy Dance for you!!!   Your perseverance is admirable! You're my hero!

THANK YOU ALL for giving me hope and lifting me up from the pity party. :flowerforyou: You are right - I did have a few really good weigh-ins and I know that I couldn't keep going like that forever, that there had to be a few weeks of one-pounders or less, or even a few gains. I'm an extreme perfectionist and I need to work on that. I'm angry at myself for falling back into old ways (giving up and eating after a disappointing weigh-in) but I learned a lot from this one. First, that I have friends on here that want to see me succeed and will push me to make me see that I can, and second, that I have the strength to come back and fight. I appreciate you all! I am ready to go!!! No more pity parties!!!

Here's to a new day!!!

JIB - Way to go !!!! That is awsome.

NOt been eating great but not horrible either. We went to jack in the box today. I got a grilled chicken pita and soe curly fries. Found all my calories, it was like 550 just about 200 more than my "normal" lunch, but hadn't had any scacks so probably even out.

I went christmas shopping with my girls and i must admit i must be freaking crazy. My 6 yr old was fine, but the 3 yr old ..uggg..i think i have a few more gray hairs (not like i didn't have enough to begin with). Why i have to have an evil 3 yr old i don't know...she would just scream and scream, stand up and grab stuff....why oh why did i think this was a good idea.

Falhaone - Hi, welcome! I just joined too, its good to have a group of big ladies around to help us fit in better and get motivated! Glad to see you joining.

lildebbie - My goal weight from my doctor was supposed to be 130, but that's just insane in my opinion. I used Body fat percentage to calculate where my healthiest weight would be (I think a little curve is sexy, afterall. Dont want to be a bag of bones) My goal is 170 which is 90 pounds too. We can do it!

jib - Woo hoo! I cant wait till I'm there too! Keep working at it!

so girls, I had a weird Friday, otherwise I would have checked in at the end of the day. Christmas party at work...and yes, I probably did go over on calories, but I did limit myself and I did not eat seconds of anything, nor did I overeat. It was SO HARD, but I feel SO PROUD. Today I picked up excersizing too, since I stopped on wednesday. still taking stairs and walking alot too.

    For friday:

    Calories: over
    Exercise: light
    Water: yes
Proud: That I didnt overeat when I really wanted to cram my face

I'll check in this evening too. see ya'll then!

Water - zippo i did very bad today
Proud - I didn't eat the roll of cookie dough in the fridge ...I really wanted to eat it or make cookies with it, but I know in my mood today I would eat them and I really didn't want to do it.

Calories: 1,086, so too far under. Plus, I have to admit that 300 calories of that total are from cookies. :embarassed: So, really not so good (but SO GOOD! )
Exercise: None. Cold & rainy = blah
Water: about 7 cups so far but a have a pint sitting next to me now
Proud: My boyfriend tried to convince me to go to Krispy Kreme. He almost succeeded but I made a half batch of no bake cookies instead (and ate 2). So, that was definitely a win.

Here we go again -- the Sunday fake-out with the scale. Almost 3 pounds less than Friday! I even made sure I drank enough water yesterday so that's not the issue. Who knows! I guess I'll just keep falling for it every Sunday and being sad every Monday.
