Oh, and Momma2four, I saw your post earlier asking about the little "if every day were like today" button. I'm sure you've probably found it by now, but in case you haven't, it's at the bottom of the food diary now!

Thanks, I hadn't noticed it there. I was curious so I looked back and I am 7 pounds heavier than their estimation.

i was curious i looked back too...and I am 15 lbs heavier than it says i would be   OH well its a new day and in 5 weeks i hope it will be what it said yesterday..which is 17 lbs from now...but good thing this morning i am .2 lbs from my 20 lbs mark..woohoo...and .4 being under 290..come on 280's..

My lunch is all out of whack today cause I have to go take my 3 yr old to the doc for a checkup so i am using my lunch hour..think i will try to get on the elliptical after i work before we pick the girls up. Saw the menu for tonight and saw somebody is bringing salad...hope it doesn't have dressing in it already and I can munch on that...hoping someone brings a veggie tray..i should of though of that i committed to a desert though a month ago. I will be strong tonight...I will be strong...I want to see the 280's so much i am soo close i don't want to blow it now.

Again, don't forget to add back what you've lost since then! It's calculating on your current weight. So, basically it's telling you if every day were like whatever day you selected, you'd weigh that much 5 weeks from TODAY at your current weight.

So, say it tells you you'd weigh 15 pounds less. Well, maybe you've lost 12 pounds since that day, so you have to subtract 12 from that 15 because that day you weighed 12 pounds more than you do now. So, really you're only 3 pounds off. That's how mine was. It told me if every day was like November 9th, then I'd weigh 217 pounds in 5 weeks. Well, November 9th, I weighed 244. Yesterday I weighed 232. So, it's telling me I will weigh 15 pounds less in 5 weeks. Well, I weighed 12 pounds less yesterday than I did on November 9th. But according to the button, if every day had been like November 9th, I would've weighed 15 pounds less instead of just 12 pounds less. I can't just go by the actual weight it's giving me since it's not calculating based on what I weighed November 9th.

I hope I'm explaining this so that it makes sense. It's calculating on your current weight, not the weight you were 5 weeks ago. So you have to look at it as though it's telling you you'll lose "x" amount of pounds in 5 weeks. And then look up what weight you were 5 weeks ago and then subtract "x" amount of pounds from THAT weight. Because the green button is subtracting "x" amount of pounds from your CURRENT weight.

Hi! I'd like to join your group!

I here about half way through a "The Biggest Loser" contest at my office last year - I was down about ten pounds then (back in Feb 09). I managed to not gain any back or lose any more until this fall when I got serious.

    Here's my story :)

I have a full time job that often keeps me in the office 60 or more hours a week, plus a one hour (each way) commute. I am pretty sure I'm married and I have pets, although I've been in the office so much the last couple of months I'm not all that sure what's going on back home (mostly kidding!)

My work schedule is supposed to slow down next week, so I'm hoping and praying I'll be able to start fitting in a little exercise soon! Right now I am walking up the four flights of stairs here at the office (just once) every day and pathetically, that's been a challenge!

This past spring two of my three sisters found out they have breast cancer - and I found out that I carry one of the genetic mutations that makes me likely to get breast cancer (BRCAII). While my sisters have had to go through all the horrid stuff that comes with cancer treatment like surgeries, chemo and radiation treatment, I've only had to deal with a few minor procedures but I'm still finding it difficult because I'm a wimp :)

In August I had my ovaries and tubes removed (TMI I KNOW!) to reduce my ovarian cancer risk, and also my breast cancer risk. This surgery put me into instant menopause which has been HUGELY disruptive to my life. To further reduce risk I have to get my weight down (and keep it down), and I'm planning on getting a double mastectomy next January (2011). Interestingly, having my ovaries and breasts removed doesn't take my cancer risk to zero for those organs, I still will have a risk of about 3% for ovarian cancer and 5-7% for breast cancer (depending on what study you look at of course!)

Dieting, working zillions of hours, and having my hormones going haywire has been a bit much but I am down almost 10 pounds since I started dieting in early October and I am wearing a size smaller pant which is wonderful!

For the first time I really have concrete reasons to make this a permanent change in my life. The before/after pictures at the plastic surgeon's office convinced me that I will look much better if I am at a healthy weight, and the impact weight loss has on reducing my chances of cancer are pretty impressive.

OK I guess that's more than enough for now!

    Thanks!

    ~Melinda

Welcome Melinda! Thank you for sharing your story.
My mom was diagnosed & treated for breast cancer and has been in remission for nearly 15 years now. Breast cancer research is a cause near and dear to my heart and I'm actually planning my very first 5k to be a Race for the Cure next May.

I came here again to whine and brag. First, the whining:
There's a "holiday luncheon" at work today. I didn't bring a dish and I had planned to avoid the whole affair. First of all, I'm not social. Secondly, I'm a bit of a germaphobe & don't want to eat what other people cooked in places that don't have DHEC inspections & touch all the serving utensils after everyone. Thirdly, I don't want to eat stuff when I have no idea what's in it & what the nutrition info is & all that good stuff. So, I was perfectly content sitting in my little cube by myself eating while I work as usual. That was, until my supervisor's supervisor came to tell me I HAVE TO go because most of HR will be at a meeting and won't be able to go and we don't want to be "underrepresented." *sigh* So now I'm going to go and sit and watch everyone eat ridiculously fatty food that doesn't even really appeal to me anymore. Except dessert. The thought of dessert certainly appeals to me right now. It irritates me, too, because I have a dentist appt. this afternoon and was planning to use my lunch hour as part of my leave so I would only have to use an hour of sick leave. Now I'll have to use 2 hours. Okay, I'm done.

    2nd, the bragging:
This morning I was rushing around trying to find a shirt to wear to work when I stumbled on a pair of size 16 pants. Well, curiosity got the best of me AND THEY FREAKIN' FIT. Now, I won't be wearing them in public for a few pounds longer, but OMG THEY FIT. SIZE 16. They weren't even tight at all in the waist -- it's always the hips/thighs I have a problem fitting. So, I'm soon to be size 16 pants/slacks, size 18 denim (why do jeans have to shrink an entire size?).

    Hey Melinda,

Wow you have quite a lot on your plate. You have come to the right place. This website is a great tool for weight loss. This group is a great way to get and give support to others in simular weight problems. We weigh in on Fridays. The person with the biggest percentage of weight loss chooses our physical challenge for the week. Here is the calculator to determine that.

    http://menshealth.about.com/library/blpercentage.htm

We answer these questions each day.

Did you stay within calories? (
    Did you exercise? (
Did you drink at least 8 cups of water?
What are you proud of today?

Welcome to our group and good luck with all you are dealing with.:flowerforyou:

OK so I'm a bit disgusted with myself right now and I keep beating myself up about it, and I can't seem to "get over it" even though I'm trying to be better today. Last night I ate 1/2 large (YES LARGE) hamburger and onion pizza. And then for breakfast as if 1/2 a pizza wasn't enough for dinner, I had another slice this morning... So far after that I had a protein shake, a pb & j and a cup of frozen corn ... what the heck! I'm using the excuse that I have a brand new puppy in the house (got him this weekend) and that I can't go to the gym or food shopping, or anything else but staying in the house watching the puppy. And I know that I can probably tire him out and let him nap for a few hours in his crate while I go food shopping, but NOOOOO order pizza instead...

This is probably a stupid question... but the % of body weight lost - what total weight do you use, the weight you were the previous weigh-in? So if I were 204 on Friday and I lose 2lbs, it would be 2 lbs of 204 or 2lbs of 202 (new weight).

    Today:
Stay within calories: No - a co-worker was in tears and I took her to lunch and thought my chicken Fajita would be less tempting- but while she cried and talked I had a dozen chips with salsa, and I ended up using both the sour cream and some guacamole on my fajita (and two wraps). I was able to resist the rice and beans but OH MY does my stomach feel full!

Exercise: I've walked the four flights of stairs twice - it's not much but it's a start!

Water - can I count unsweetened green tea? If so 5 cups so far.

What I'm proud of: I got to work before 7 this morning (usually get here between 7 and 7:30)

You'd take the percentage off the old weight, so the 204.

Stephanie, we are all kinda going through this little funk with our eating. Let's face facts we did not seek out the over 200's club cause we were light eaters. It is sooooo hard to change our attitudes and habits. If we just dust ourselves off, forgive ourselves for the mistakes and move forward we will reach our ultimate goal. Get back to it and move on. You can do it.

mstahl, do not ever think a question is stupid. It's stupid not to ask if you do not know. That being said here is your answer. 2 pounds from 204, your previous weight before you lost the 2 pounds. And I say 4 flights of stairs is for sure exercise. You keep it up. We have to start somewhere and build up from there.

ok.. so today is going better. My neck and shoulder are still tender but, with a little time, physical therapy, massage and the Chiro I should be back to normal soon!

So far today is going well. We are going to my daughters choir program tonight (she has a solo) So, we will be having a late dinner. Calories doing well... have dinner planned out so, when we get home and we are hungry dinner should only take about 15 mins to put together since it will be late.

Exercise... yep got in 90 minutes today (wheesh.. It is amazing how out of shape you can get in only a week!)

Water.. to be honest... this one is really sucking.. I have had a terrible time trying to get in enough liquids lately.. but, I will forge on and eventually get there. :drinker: Need to as I am having my blood drawn tomorrow morning for yearly stuff.. Oh what joy! :indifferent:

Proud.. proud I am hanging in there (even if only by a thread the last couple weeks) :ohwell:

My calories are good a little high for what I would like today 1765, that range was great yesterday because I exercised a ton. Today I only did 40 mins.

    Exercise: Yes, see above comment

Water: still working on it, but will get it done at dinner. (it is only 3:30 here and my dinner cals are included in total above)

I am proud that I am still chugging a long. I am proud that even though I am not losing 10 pounds a week, I keep going because I know this is more realistic. I am proud that I am wearing 3 pants sizes smaller than I was 8 months ago. I am proud that I have a jaw line again. I am proud that my waist is 7 inches smaller than when I began and that means my chances of a heart attack are dropping with each inch. I am proud that I am part of this group and that you guys are my friends.

Exercise-going to do another hour because I only did 20 minutes this morning
Glad I didn't whine about my binge.I am over it and I am going to move on and do better tomorrow.I feel awful after this binge so maybe that will teach me a lesson not to do it again.

    Calories: 1,389
Exercise: 30 minutes bike, Couch25K week 3 day 3 (and, woah, I'm definitely going to repeat this week. Today was harder than Sunday and I suspect it's because I'm expecting my "monthly" (yeah right. bimonthly's more like it with me) gift sometime over the next week.
Water: I'm at 10 cups now I'll probably have more before bed. I still have dinner & a snack to eat
Proud: I'm proud I pushed through C25K tonight. It was really hard. I read an article that said running is easier the first half of your menstrual cycle (the first half starts with the first day of your period) and I thought "what a crock..." I'm starting to believe it though.

Hi girls. Had kind of a crappy day, what with bosses breathing down my neck, getting a project I really dont want to do and making a C on a class...bleh. I also havent had any luck finding exersise I can do, I feel really discouraged about it too. *Sigh* I guess if I just keep eating right I'll get there eventualy and I can exersise whenever I can manage it...

    Calories: 1210, under
Exercise: Light cleaning for 30 minutes, took the stairs all day
    Water: Yes

Proud: today? Nothing really. I guess proud that I stayed under my calories.

You all are doing really great though. It does help to read about all of you and see what's going on when I'm not feeling so hot. If I were alone doing this I can tell you I would have already quit. This site really is great and I'm glad I have all of you to come home and talk with when I need it.

Welcome, welcome to the new gals.

It takes me a while to read through all the posts the last two days. More good choices are being made. So I spent the afternoon in town shopping and standing in LONG lines. And if I find what I think is the shortest line it for sure will take the LONGEST to get checked out. Just the kind of luck that runs with me. While shopping I had to buy three wedding gifts. Need to wrap gifts and then we are ready for Christmas at our house. Christmas dinner is planned just have to pick up fresh produce and we are set.

    Calories: under
Exercise: minamal I did park away and walk (I did exercise my patience standing in line then standing in another line. )
    Water: not quite
Proud: That I am not totally stressed out.

Nothing wrong with that. I was thinking of doing the same since my first really big goal is to be under 200 pounds, I get excited thinking about that. I might change my ticker to say that.

zorahope: Don't give me too much credit. I am stressed! But at this time it is manageable. I make lots of lists, I feel like I forget so many things if I don't write it down, (called my paper brain) then I don't overlook as much.:ohwell:

The dollar store has great calendars and I am keeping track of every five pound increment. The big numbers are too overwhelming to me. I have charted to my goal weight and I know that it is a ways away but it helps me in my plan to see where I have been to where I want to be. I see several people make 10 pound goals, but that starts to panic me. Maybe it is because I have been over 200 pounds for so long that I didn't know if my body would respond. With what I have now lost, I feel confident that I will make it to my goal. Continued success through the holidays.

Water - Yes !!!! I had lots of water at bunko
Exercise - 30 min on eliptical
Proud - I am proud that i am sticking to this, even though i did overdo my cals a little i didn't go way overboard.

I got on the scales this evening and it was in the 280's i was soo happy, i am hoping it sticks till friday :)

    Welcome to the new girls!

    calories - good
    exercise - 25 mins Week 3 Day 1 Couch25k
water - no, but I was close
proud - I did well running today, and am amazed by how fast I can recover from exercise now. The first time I tried to do the couch25k program, I was exhausted and couldn't breathe when I was done. Now, I am sweaty and red in the face, but can breathe fine, and go on with my day right away.
