I like this thread...always looking for thought-provoking-leaves-you-talking-and-analyzing type of movies.

Here's my list of faves off the top of my head:
    Donnie Darko
Planet of the Apes, the most current one is the ONLY good one. Not he one with mark walberg.
    Apocalypto
    Insidious

    i spit on your grave

    the human centipede

edit: there is some gore in both, but it is shorter lived i think. i spit on your grave is really messed and the gore is deserved, so that should make it ok!

I'm an avid horror movie fan.

For not so gory psychological try "The Strangers". Creeped me the eff out.

It's not a horror film per se but We Need to Talk About Kevin is really good. The book is amazing and I thought they did a great job with the film. It's about a mothers relationship with her sociopathic son. It definitely qualifies as disturbing.

Deliverance is very creepy and disturbing film from the 1970s. It's about some guys from the city that decide to go on a canoeing trip deep in the hills of West Virginia. They aren't prepared for the dangers of the river or the inbred mountain people. It sounds cheesy, but it's really not. It makes you think about how you would fare if something very traumatizing happened. Would you land on your feet and maintain your dignity? Or would you go crazy?

Black Swan, as others have said, is a great psychological thriller. And of course I can't leave out Silence of the Lambs!

Thanks for posting this, I love these types of movies too so I am making my own list ;)
