I've always thought I was around 12-14% when my abs show....... I'll try to post a pic.....I don't mind taking my shirt off anymore....lost 25lbs last year!!! Anybody know if I am 12-14% ????? I've never taken a real body fat test before?

That's pretty good. If I got to where you are I would stop wearing shirts! Good job! I'm guessing your joking about the body fat %, that's gotta be at most 12% could be even 10%. I've still got a while before reaching that, I'm probably at the 18-24% range, not sure myself as I never got it tested but I've got a bit of a beer belly that needs to go.

Heys, I'm in, although I'm probably younger than most of you (only 19) I hope I can relate still, since I am a guy
since it's just us guys here, I made a post before, but no one is really answering to it, here's the situation:
I went to the hospital yesterday because I had pain in my "ahem",... Turns out I have "Epididymitis" :ohwell:
So it feels like someone punched me down there, but the soreness won't go away, anyways, I want to exercise still but it says to get lots of bedrest, any suggestions on light exercise but still a good way to burn calories? As walking and such gets the infection and inflammation going again. :grumble:

Just read about it in wikipedia, sorry to hear about that :(... but I'd suggest doing very little exercise until it clears, I assume they're giving you antibiotics for it so hopefully in a few weeks you be able to get back into things but honestly I can't think of any exercise that excludes the movement of those parts and that would only cause you more pain. Maybe peddling with your arms, or boxing without the footwork or lifting weights for your upper body only, but really I think you just got to be patient as any wrong move could inflame it again. Just pretend you've got the flu or pneumonia and get some reading, television, and video games taken care of.

So I am pushing for 250 by April 1st, 5lbs to go. I am wanting to start weightlifting more and have yet to come up with a training routine. Where is a great place to research?

    CasperO's house.

J/k. Casper, when you said you'll start once you "see" your abs, what does that mean body fat %-wise? I mean we talkn' six-pack, or just those two verticle lines that separate the obliques from the core? We talkn 10-13% body fat, or 16-18%?

Forkdown, for you I've got the "Over 35" bodybuilding.com page: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11

    Thanks WFS.

Fox, you're really trim man. My thumb-in-the-wind guesstimate says you're 10% or 12% bodyfat. I check mine with scale/tape/calipers by a could different regimens and come in around 14%, and you're more chiseled than I am. Especially that vascularity in the arms,,, wow, I'd kill for that.

Here's where I plug my numbers for my BF%. There are several different methods, and they're all equally flaky. But I use a couple different ones and they generally agree within a % or 2, so I trust that. http://www.linear-software.com/online.html

My abs are pretty bulgy, so I don't have to get quite as trim as Fox to see them. I'm pretty well defined at 15% or less.

Thanks for that site Casper. It's got me at 19.82% which is probably pretty close, I tried with another calculator that had me at 19.69% so pretty much the same thing. I don't think I've ever gotten below 16% in my life (well maybe before puberty) so I'd be really impressed if I could just get this down to 13%.

I guess that decides it for me w/ regards to cutting vs bulking, I'll cut until I get down to my lower teens and then decide whether I want to keep going lower or build up muscle mass. This spare tire has been hanging around for a looong time! I remember it starting to show up when I was in 7th grade and it's been around for 18 years now, it'd be really amazing to see it gone at some point this year!

darman - if you want to lower the body fat the only way I've ever heard of is through the calorie-deficit manner that we're all attempting. There's no such thing as spot reduction for fat, the body just takes from its reserves from whereever it feels like, but if you build up your abs through core exercises they should become more defined underneath that fat and at 14% you might get them showing better there. Considering your exercise routine and the weight you've already lost I think in your case it might just be a game of patience & perseverance - How long have you been on that routine? If it's been years then maybe something else is up, but if it's been 8 months or so and you lost 20 lbs in the process then it's just a matter of time I'd assume...

Yep, no such thing as "spot reduction"... I've lost 65 lbs, I'm at 14% bodyfat, I have defined abs, and I still have (a little bit of) my $&% double chin.

It'll go where it goes, and the only way to get there is to just cut the BF% down. Lots of protein, lots of leafy greens, low fats, no white carbs (Ok, that one's up for argument, but I personally believe it) and cardio cardio cardio. It'll go.

My office mate has told me his Epididymitis saga about eleventeen times. Here's his hot tip: Wear a jock. The support helps it bigtime. And the other secret - keep that sucker on at least 6 weeks after the last pain, or you'll relapse.

I have a problem, maybe I'm just over reacting, but,... you know how I said the Urologist was going to call me back with the test results and to check up on me? I got a call on the answering machine, I dialed the number and it was for the "Juravinski Cancer Centre" does that mean I could have cancer? or does the Urologist just work there? They were closed so I have to wait till Monday for the office.... :indifferent:
    I'm really scared...

No need to jump to such a conclusion based on the call back. Allot of specialists have offices within hospitals or cancer centers, larger medical service buildings as it is easier to get patient referrals from people coming in for some other care. I seriously doubt that a Urologist being linked to a Cancer Center suggests that you could have cancer, cancer specialists are Oncologists and your appointment is with a Urologist, different specialty, don't lose sleep over it. You're better off pondering where you can find a cup to protect your boys.

Sims, I understand you hate staying home (my stepson broke his hip in 2 places about a month ago, and cannot put ANY weight on his leg for another month... he is going nuts).

So here is the tricky question... why do you want to do exercises? To be healthy? How healthy can you be, if you don't do what the doctors tell you?

Thanks everyone! How is your day going? I'm gonna go trade some games at gamestop and buy God of War III!
It just came out, but I can't wait to play it (downloaded the demo on PS3, so much fun!)

Ok, I got some jiggle/slosh issues... am I alone?

When I try to run, I feel my flab bouncing... like my man-boobs.
When I am on my exercise bike, I drink like a fish... and that sets up the slosh... I can hear the water sloshing in my stomach.

You know these don't really freak me out, but the flab jiggle is a little nerve racking... and the slosh is just plain funny.

Keep running and the jiggle will soon stop, but keep drinking and you will always be a slosh

calorie percentages...............guys how do you split up your percentages? I tweaked mfp to show 50% carbs 30% protein and 20% fat - does that sound good for weight loss?

So glad the weather is turning warmer - back to running outside..............whoop!
