Amazing, and annoying, that our self-perception can be so wrong. This is why it`s super important to keep track of things - our brains work against us.
There's a VISIBLE difference, which the rest of us can see.
- Your waist is more defined - your hourglass shape is now evident.
- There`s less flare from your waist to your hips.
- There`s less outward projection to your belly, from the side view, by several inches, and the crease is not as deep.
- You wore a shirt in the before pic, so can`t really see progress in your arms, but your forearms are also at least .5 inch slimmer, if they`re flexed at the same angle.
Basically - you look amazing, and your work HAS reaped rewards. Well done
(Also, well done for challenging your own perceptions by coming here
And new hair colour/cut is great!0 -
I see it especially in the front facing pic. Your curves are getting more defined. I bet we could see more it in the hips, too, if you hadn't been wearing jeans in the first pic. Definately progress - keep going! Love the new hair color! :flowerforyou:0

You may not see a difference, but I definitely see one! Keep on going :flowerforyou:0

First of all, that's an amazing success. You've lost an entire 4 year old child!! Do you have any idea how hard it is to carry a 40lb child around? It's hard!! That's a lot!
Secondly, you're looking great. It's hard to see it when your surrounded by little people (my brother could live off pop and potato chips and still be a bean pole). I always feel huge next to him, no matter what weight I am. I was 272, and am now 230... I know exactly how you feel, just go put on an old pair of pants that used to be tight. At least we are going in the right direction! What ever you do, don't get frustrated and go have a poutine. Be proud and have a salad!
(I don't know if you can "friend" people on here, but I'll be your work out buddy if you need some motivation or support0 -
You are doing a fantastic job! Hang in there and don't give up! You are getting more beautiful every step you take!!0
-
You look more toned, and smaller to me..Don't give up on your dreams you've accomplished a great deal in 4 months, losing 40lbs is a Great accomplishment. Don't look at what you haven't yet done but instead at how far you've come, you must have changed your relationship with food in order to lose 40lbs. WTG!!!0

I can definitely see it. I think it's harder for you to see it because you're losing weight evenly, all over your body (which is good). Your *shape* is still the same, but it's much smaller. When you see yourself in the mirror every day, it's hard to see that change, especially when you're still shaped the same way.
The forward-facing shot is the most obvious to me. It's like someone kept your proportions the same but shrank you down. You look a bit "smoother", or more toned. I can't find the right word for it.
Do you have any clothes from 40 pounds ago? If you put them on, you'll see/feel the difference.0 -
I see a difference. You now are getting some shape. Don't give up and keep pushing. You can do this.0
-
awesome difference! You are looking fabulous! It's a fat girl mentality! I have lost weight several times over the last 8 years and even at my smallest of 140 then up to 215 again and againI thought i was still huge at 140! I think its hard to grasp the idea that YOU are looking better and you see yourself differently than everyone else see's you. Keep it going girl. Im am just starting to diet with empowerment again and truly so jealous! Congrats and I wish you all the best!0
-
Are you kidding me?! I see a huge difference. You are doing awesome0
-
Huge difference for sure. Congratulations and keep it up, I'm sure you will notice the difference very soon0
-
you really look alot more toned than your first picture. I really see a definition in your look. first one looks flaby but second look alot more tightened up. i think it is amazing keep it up.0
-
Are you kidding me, you have a waist now. Hugeeee difference, keep at it.0

I have been overweight ever since I can remember. Always the chubby one with the booda belly I had just lost hope in ever changing because i thought I never could. I have just recently got married to an incredible man who is a whopping 115 lbs! I more than doubled his size at 260! I have finally reached a point where I am mentally happy with my life and i just need the outside of me to match the happy, beautiful inside so I started MFP about 4 months ago and I am here now just about 40lbs light giver or take but the difference seems to be very little. Which as you can imagine will bring down someone who wants a change after working so hard for it.
4 months ago (embarassing!)
Now (not much difference)
what?!?!?! bif difference.. you have an hour glass shape now! looks lot nice/smoother and your face (small parts we can see) is thinner too.. and idk about your legs cuz cant see them.. and 250 down to 220 is 30lbs not 40!
but you do look diff for sure... remember a lot of weight in the begining is water wt... and depending on how you eat/workout some is def muscle loss too... but yes i can def see a diff.. looks a lot nicer/curvy at 220!0 -
I defo see a difference!!0
-
hmm, that's too bad is it?0

I agree with everyone who has said that there is a noticable difference. I can so see it and am jealous of your hourglass shape! I also agree with the posters who said to take measurements (I do so once a month), and try on old clothes. Also try on clothes that were too small before and see how much closer you come to fitting into them. I just now got to the 40 lb loss. At 25 lbs gone, I was aggrivated that I hadn't lost any inches, but the weight had gone. I took another picture, and my hubby said it looked like someone took the new pic and streached it out in photoshop to make the old one. Now, I'm losing inches, but barely any weight. When I think about myself, I think of a fat girl who looks like Jabba the Hut. I have to go back and look at those pictures (which I also take monthly, same clothes, same angle, same location so I can really pinpoint the differences), and realize how far I've come. Getting healthy isn't just about losing pounds. It's about eating right and like I said, getting healthy. Pick a workout that you did when you started, and do the exact same as you did then, and realize how much easier it is. It's a crazy thing. We don't notice because we're so ingrossed in it. Keep up the good work. I'm proud of you!0
-
I agree with the others! I can see a big difference. I think it's harder to see it on yourself, because we are our own worst critics. Definitely take measurements.... I'm sure you've lost lots of inches!! Keep up the good work. You will see it soon!0
-
There is a difference - keep up the good work!0
-
Your hard work is definitely showing! Way to go!0
-
Well, I definitely see a huge difference in those photos!0
-
I can see a big difference!
It's been mentioned already, but it can take a very long time to change our mental image of ourselves.
Are you also taking measurements? Your clothes must also be fitting more loosely too.
There are also the changes that you can't see, such as the benefit you are doing for your heart, your risk of diabetes, and your knees. You look young, so maybe you aren't yet considering health issues, but my Mom has been your start weight for quite a long time and now has HBP, cardiac arrhythmia, sleep apnea, has suffered two strokes and can barely walk because her knees are so bad. Losing 40 pounds makes a world of difference in lessening your risk of developing those issues.0 -
I see a big difference and you are doing a great job!! You definitely have a more defined waist0
-
i can definately see a difference. keep up the good work!0
-
i could have wrote this! lol. i am 40 lbs down, and can't tell a thing. my hubby is 125, and i more than doubled his weight. i will tell you tho, that i can see a difference in your pictures! keep it up, and i bet you notice before too long!0
-
I see a major difference. It can be hard to see the change in ourselves but you have made significant progress! Keep up the good work.0
-
Your belly is less droopy and the top of your stomach, under your bust, looks tappered in a bit.
There definitely is a difference even if its little.0 -
I see a big difference! Your waist is much smaller in the after pics, and I can see that you've slimmed down considerably in the face/neck. Looking great! Keep going!0
-
Good job so far! I strived really hard to lose weight, and was like you, not even noticing it.(Unfortunatly I gained it, and am now trying to lose again) One day you'll be looking through your pictures and without even noticing, youll be like whoa, I look different. Dont give up, you can do this! Hard work will pay off in the end, and people can tell the difference already, so imagine what you'll feel like another four months from now! (:0
-
I immediately saw a difference in your photos. You have a nice curve in your waist now and you after photo looks nice. Don't stop your journey because you can't see the difference, please keep on moving forward to your goal, because trust me, the difference is there.0
