Bread.. it is the only thing which I will binge on anymore.
Despite the fact it makes me feel like complete and utter **** Very bloated and sick right now.
I don't even feel like bingeing on it, until I take the first bite. So decided... maybe I should just never take that first bite.. has anyone else given up bread, how long ago? How did you do it? And how do you feel now?

only for the next 5 days, omg these will be the longest 5 days EVER!0

I haven't given up bread but I'm trying to cut down. I had a slice the other night and I felt awful after it so maybe it is time to give it up completely.0

It just went off from my diet naturally, though I have there and that some bread. The thing is, independently from any specific food, should we run away the things we "binge" on ?
If tomorrow, all od a sudden you find yourself drinking orange juice like a tank, would you cease to buy it ?
The way I see it, it's more about having an accurate knowledge of yourself and what drives such behaviors, focus on the causes, not the consequences0 -
I would be interested know what other people have done, as I am also addicted to bread and it seems the one thing that I cannot stop.0

I try not to eat a lot of bread. I found some low carb low calorie whole wheat tortilla shells that I replaced my bread with. 50 calories per shell. I make all of my sandwiches on them.0
-
Haven't given up bread but chose a lower calorie one that has helped curved those bread cravings. Natures 40cal bread toasted tastes pretty good :bigsmile:0
-
I started using tortillas when I started cutting calories. Now, I use the 80 calorie buns, the 45 calorie whole grain bread and find since I don't love it as much as a fresh baked tasteing slice I am not tempted to eat the whole loaf.
Another words, I just don't buy my favorites to test my will power0 -
I think when it comes to cutting down on things you binge on it's more important to try to learn to limit yourself. I, for example, have zero control when it comes to potato chips. So I pre-portion servings. Do the same with bread. Keep it around, but keep it frozen and defrost only what you'll eat. Or some similar stricture.0

I've just done 7 days without bread and I am.......no wait, I WAS a breadaholic. To be honest I haven't missed it a great deal but that's probably the novelty factor, I just need to learn to do it in moderation.
About 3 weeks ago I hit my bread all time low - I bought a loaf of sliced brioche with chocolate chips in it, stood in front of the toaster with the bread and a slab of butter and literally toasted my way through the ENTIRE loaf in under 30 minutes. I swear it's like the crack cocaine of bread. Did it taste great? Yuh huh? Was it worth the self loathing and disgust? Not on your nelly.
Determined to get a healthy relationship with it though. Baby steps.0 -

I still live with my parents - I don't really have a choice...0 -
It is a true addiction feeling, because the wheat triggers the same endorphins as heroine. If you can, get a copy of Wheat belly. MIND BLOWING. Been off wheat since May. Haven't really lost weight, but it is nice to stop the binge. I have less pain, less headaches... It takes time to adjust, and I have slipped up, but after having to RRRRUUUUUNNN to the bathroom after having wheat, it was enough. I have a lot of support from my husband, and my mom, and sister are w.f. too...
It sounds hard. It kinda is. but the payoff:flowerforyou: is so good. Hang in there.0 -
I've given up bread, dairy, grains and pasta with switching to Paleo, and I honestly haven't had a problem with it.
Easiest way? No bread in the house, no money to go out. Ta da!
That's my secret lol0 -
I haven't given it up... but, I'm thinking I should. I had fresh tomato and mozerella toast this morning for breakfast, and I am now feeling sick. Like you, I don't know how to quit when I start eating bread -- especially dinner rolls at places like O'Charley's (which I made the mistake of having the other night).0

I couldn't give up bread I like toast too much, but I am trying not to eat it every single day x0

Initially i gave up bread, because i absolutely love it. But then it gradually started to creep back in.. so i have chosen to have only 2 slices max for any one day and now i eat the lowest caloric bread i can find.. wholewheat bread-70 ( i am in Jamaica so the varieties are not as much. i find that i am not as addicted anymore. The bread may actually go stale in my house, that has never happened before now.0

I live with my parents and 2 younger brothers- I can't just get them to throw it out.0 -
reduced a lot. Just too many calories in the great German and French breads so eat processed carboard-like stuff and have some bread every once in a while.0

I love bread. Have just started making my own as well. Yum.0

I gave up Bread and Pasta and really haven't missed it.0

I don't really eat bread. I try to keep my carb intake low to moderate (~100 grams), and one slice will blow my whole target for the day!
I will occasionally eat a pita or wrap of some sort, and VERY occasionally I will have some fresh bread if we go out to eat or something, but it's not a daily or even weekly thing. I don't miss it most of the time now. At first it's hard, but once you break the addiction the cravings go away. I think part of it is our mindset that we have to have bread at every meal - we get into the habit as kids, and it sticks with you! To me, now bread is an infrequent treat rather than a daily must-have.0 -
Yep, I haven't had a bite of bread in 5 weeks....but I was also diagnosed with Celiac so its not a choice.
It was hard the first few days, but after the initial withdrawl it wasn't a big deal. Right now if I look at a peice of bread, I don't want it. Now soft white dinner rolls from one of the grocery stores in town..thats harder to not drool over.0 -
i am trying my best to go primal - no grains, etc. so i stopped eating bread almost three months ago. i dont really miss it. but it isn't the taste of the bread itself that i enjoyed. i wrap my hamburgers in lettuce, etc.
i didnt find it too hard to give up bread. but i do love cookies. so that is a constant struggle.
everyone has something they love. if it is making you feel bad though - maybe you do need to cut it out instead of trying to be moderate.
if you really want to go bread free - look up some staple meal ideas on a paleo website and go from there. if you have a meal that you enjoy that you know you can cook at any time - it makes it easier to not default to pb&j.0 -
I gave up bread for 2 weeks, on the 21 sugar detox diet. I ate a couple slices of pizza & the weight all seemed to come back instantly. I have been eating a slice every other day now. From my own experience, unless you want to keep bread out of your diet for good, the weight might come back when you start eating it again. Good luck!0

See that's the thing I don't actually eat it instead of a meal, it is always as a "snack" after dinner. Also.. not going paleo. I'm not giving up my carbs. Brown rice/sweet potato is amazing0 -

I DO drink orange juice like a tank or at least I used to. I stopped buying it for awhile and now I have much more restraint when it comes to it.
Sometimes we just need a break from things to adjust our attitudes towards them.0 -

I don't want to cut it out solely to lose weight, but because it makes me feel like **** - physically and emotionally after eating it.0 -
I know that for me when I stopped eating bread great things started to happen. I get so tired of dealing with the calories in/calories out crowd because they do not take in consideration how the kind of food we eat can manipulate our hormones and appetites for the good or for the bad. There was a period of really missing it but when the weight started falling off and my energy levels stabilized that went away as well. I have since learned that there is a very small difference between whole wheat/ whole grain products vs the bleached and processed ones. It is over hyped and we fall for it and then wonder why we are still fat. They are both fattening and turn to glucose fairly quickly in our system. What makes a difference is when you cut out bread and other highly addictive/glycemic foods altogether. Then after you have made a lot of progress, have met your goals and you feel safe in trying some of these things they don't seem as pleasurable as they once did.
ETA; Keep in mind that carbs are not the enemy. Its the type of carbs that can help us to feel more full and provide us with good nutrition and fiber that are important. Now we call all usually get by with eating starchy things when we are younger and the reason for it is because our hormones are more efficient and we can burn it off thermogenically. Then we go to the stage where reduced calorie or whole grain gets us back where we want to be. Eventually this fails as well. So, after 30, 45, 50 years old (everyone is different) we then have to address this thing more seriously. But, its wonderful to know that there are options and strategies that can help us to beat the ill effects of a modern western diet and the culture that surrounds it and seem to then defy the fattening downward cycle that everyone around us seems to think is inevitable.0 -
I'm going Paleo myself. Experimental stages at present, plus I have a bit of a "what is in the house" thing happening too.
That said, I am wondering if it is carb distribution .... ie the times of the day we eat it.
Perhaps the body wants to binge for not making up for our minimum carbs for the day ? Sometimes a binge comes from cravings, cravings can possibly come from lack.
I know some days I get the same thing - started becoming "bingey" into the evening this evening and looked at my carb distribution throughout the day (I don't base it on meal times, just "meal events" ).
I'll see how it goes for myself.
PS Bread free for several days and it IS hard .... trying to be "wheat-free", not "low carb".0 -
I started eating Ezekiel bread instead of regular bread. It tastes tons better and has less calories, and it's MUCH healthier.0
-
I'm not too crazy about bread unless I smell it baking in my own home. Like yesterday! LOL Otherwise, I eat Healthy Life whole wheat bread @ 35 calories per slice. It's not perfect but it works for low cal sandwiches, toast and it's more filling than white bread.0
