    I eat 93/7 ground turkey all the time, it has never made me sick or feel ill. I only buy Shady Brook Farms or Jennie-O, not sure if that makes too much of a difference though.

    Ground beef actually makes me sick to my stomach more often than not, as does anything with more than 7% fat. I prefer 96/4, but am not sure it's worth the extra money.

    We had it in hamburger helper. It was my boyfriend and I that ate it, and he loved it and didn't make him sick but me on the other hand did. Glad to see some think its gross and some love it.

    You should start with ditching the hamburger helper......

    I pretty much eat turkey the same way I would eat chicken or beef or pork or seafood... it's just another option. I don't cut out beef because I'm willing to eat ground turkey... just use it for variety. You get used to the flavor and start to appreciate the different things you can accomplish WITH that flavor instead of trying to always make it taste like a beef burger.

    I absolutely love turkey burgers. I use it in everything from Sloppy Joe's, to taco's, to burgers, to Hamburger Helper. It doesn't bother me or upset my stomach. I will still however eat regular ground meet. I love both, but I hate that both hamburgers and turkey burgers are expensive.

    I like it but usually buy it because it less expensive than LEAN ground beef. No real health benefits/differences between those two, just price!

    We use it all the time in spaghetti, sloppy joes,chili (in crockpot), taco seasoning and salsa mixed in and served with brown rice and veggies and I make a MEAN crockpot meatloaf with Worcestershire, oatmeal, shredded carrots and ground turkey! It's all about seasoning!

    I use ground turkey a lot... but I prefer beef however too much of it no matter how lean the beef is hurts my stomach. I'm trying to use grass fed beef which I haven't noticed any stomach gripes as of yet.

    But when I use ground turkey, I steep dried dried porcini mushrooms in worchestershire, once the mushroms are softened I process em' a lil' bit to give it a rough chop, then add it to my ground turkey with garlic powder, onion powder & a low sodium seasoning or a pinch of grill seasoning in the $1 packets (sometimes finely chopped onions, garlic & green peppers in a processor) and make burger patties. I add crispy, nitrate free bacon & cheese if you fancy & it taste really close to a beef buger (but it never will be) I also get my ground turkey from the Amish market near me. The texture is different from the packaged local grocer's. This is one food you'll have to play with flavorings until you get what you want!

    I've never had that! I love ground turkey more than ground hamburger. We get the 93/7 Jenny-O lean ground turkey. We fry it up and use it to make meat sauce for spaghetti. I also use it for tacos or when we used to have hamburger helper. I do not like turkey burgers, though...but other than that, I replace all hamburger with turkey.

    I mix ground turkey and ground sirloin in the same recepies, my family does not even know. I do this in pasta sauses, meatloaf, tacos, burgers. etc.

    I have been using ground turkey and turkey sausage for years, you have to get the extra lean, its lower in calories and fat then ground beef. Here is the key to using it! ready..........................Seasoning the ground turkey!!! I use chili powder everytime I use it for any type of recipe. Its awesome!

    I use ground turkey all the time. I buy the 93 or 99% fat free jenni-o tastes the best. If I am making a hamburger I like to season mine depending on what type of hamburger I am making. If I am having just an all american burger then I will season mine with a little dried onions, onion powder, chili powder and paprika. I also like to make pizza burgers with ground turkey. For these I season them with a little Italian seasoning and top them with low fat mozzarella cheese and just little bit of pizza sauce. I also use ground turkey in chili. I would much rather use ground turkey than beef but if you don't season it right it can have a bit of an odd flavor.

    Can't stand ground turkey unless it's the 99% FF. Then it's a matter of what you do with it. The people who can't cook a moist chicken breast will tend to have bad experiences cooking ground turkey. In the right hands it can be a wonderful ingredient to cook with.

    the thing is, most ground turkey is really not much lower in calories than lean ground beef.

    This! I hate it also, I have tried and tried to like it, I have made it several different ways and gave up. It's not that much of a difference calorie and fat wise than lean beef so why make myself eat something I can't stand?!

    I tried it as turkey burgers and didn't love it. I do, however, love ground chicken burgers.

    I use ground turkey in chili and lasagna and tacos, etc. and I can't even tell I'm not eating beef.

    I've been using it for iover 15 years. the trick is to season it the way you would beef. You also have to get the lean version and add a little olive oil or non stick cooking spray to the pan or it will make your house stink and leave a strange flavor on the patty if you are using any type of teflon pan. I also have found that I don't typically like the store' brand ground turkey. The Jennie-O turkey store products are much better. once you buy Jennie-O you will see the difference. High fat, low quality ground turkey will be super mushy, soft and almost watery. Very difficult to work with and it does have a strong after taste, which is probably what you bought and why you felt sick afterwards. Stick with Jennie-O. Its more expensive, but it taste better and you will love the results. you won't miss beef at all. Except beef hotdogs...turkey dogs stink!

    Personally, we love ground turkey for many different things. While the calories might not be much lower, the fat content and a few other things might be. Admittedly, we do buy the 90% lean stuff though also or 85/15 at the worst.

    To make burgers, we usually add in an egg, oatmeal/crackers to help it stick, and sometimes chopped onion/peppers and whatever seasonings before making the patties. They stick together on the grill better.

    Ground turkey by itself isn't all that great. I do prefer turkey bratwurst to regular bratwurst though. I've done the ol' switcheroo on unsuspecting dinner guests a few times and they raved about them as well.

    That being said.. the price of beef is about to go down for a bit before it goes way up over the winter (speculation based on grain reports)

    I tried to get into ground chicken/turkey but it never worked out. I found out when I cook I know the taste of things. I'll just stick to my 85/15 and be creative with supporting ingredients to keep calories down. If anything ground Bison works out really good just the cost is pretty high.

    I think ground turkey may be an acquired taste. You have to go into it knowing that it is not going to taste like ground beef. I use it in pretty much every recipe I have that calls for ground beef - I am not a red meat fan - the taste bothers me so I only eat red meat occassionally. I have been eating ground turkey for quite a few years now - the taste of a beef hamburger doesnt do it for me anymore. But I also season, season, season. My favorite are ranch cheddar turkey burgers, turkey meatloaf, and spaghetti with meat sauce (subbing ground turkey for the ground beef). You do have to be careful that ground turkey does become dry quicker than beef. I have never had a problem with getting sick from ground turkey, nor has it ever made my house stink. That is so random!!

    I eat a lot of ground turkey but I do have to say, it has a "different" taste to it.. I make tacos with it and they are sooooo good :)

    If the ground turky made you sick and had a bad odor I wonder if you got a bad batch? With that said, we eat ground turkey in many different dishes not because of the health benefits (really there aren't that many as other posters have mentioned) but because we like the flavor better. With that said, as others have already mentioned it needs to be seasoned. We use it in taco dishes, I make a mexican meatloaf with it that uses crushed ground tortillas (dorritos or whatever on hand), salsa or picante, eggs, pepper and some shredded cheese or turkey burgers with italian bread crumbs (Vigo), garlic, onion powder, shredded provolone/mozzarella mix, salt and pepper - we all like that. But what you have to remember is ground turkey doesn't taste anything like ground beef. When we want hamburgers (i.e. cowboy burgers or ranch burgers) I use ground beef. No matter what you do to ground turkey some people just don't like it.

    If you choose to try it again you may want to look online at recipes that include flavors you already like - that might help.

    I use ground turkey anywhere I would use gound beef. To me it tastes about the same but has a lighter feeling. Like spaghetti and meat sauce doesn't sit as heavy. I have had jennie-O turkey burgers and they are okay but I prefer a beef hamburger.
  • I gave ground turkey another go with a SUPER moist and easy way to add spinach in it too. I adapted from Fitness magazine, hope you give ground turkey a try again some day ^u^

    Love ground turkey (whole fam)! I don't even buy ground beef anymore. Lower in fat and tastes great.
