How much does hair weigh? I use to have mediem to long hair, but I got it cut short a couple days ago.
I wanted to know how much hair weighs so I will know what's weight loss and what's hair loss at the end of the week when I weigh in?

Buy a pack of hair at the store, and weigh it...I bet it's next to nothing, even if it's really long...unless it's wet, it probably doesn't weight anything.0

Seriously? This is a joke thread right? Please tell me it is....2
-
And in case it is real... a full head of long hair extensions weighs around 200 grammes.0

I didn't mean it as a joke ^^;
I didn't know if it would affect me or not, my head fells a lot lighter at least without so much hair.. seince I don't know about hair I was just wondering..0 -
Hair weighs almost nothing. That is the technical, scientifical answer. Look it up!:smokin:0

This reminds me of an episode of Ellen, when she went to a weight loss spa and carefully removed her contact lenses prior to her weigh-in.
Hair really doesn't weigh that much at all. You're going to be talking about a difference of ounces, not pounds.6 -
It's probably negligible, but even if it contributes anything to this week's weight loss, it will not affect the coming weeks, so just blow it off.0

Reality threads are stranger than parody threads.2

Lol! Your hair doesn't way enough to make any significant impact on your weight- even if it's wet!0

About 15 lbs.0

My beautician once asked me how much hair I wanted her to cut off.. As a joke, I told her to cut off a pound as I am dieting!1

As for me, I feel like my hair might make a tiny difference—I have thick hair, and a ton of it. But even then I doubt my hair would register as anything important on a scale. Your scalp is really sensitive; hair definitely can feel heavy as a result, but as for being anything to worry about on a scale, I heavily doubt it, unless you've got Sailor Moon hair streaming out for miles behind you. XD0 -
It weighs the same as a pound of fat that has turned into muscle, but as muscle weighs more than fat you might be in trouble come weigh in day. :laugh:0

My hair is 3 1/2 feet long and very very thick. I asked my doctor once if it made a difference in my weight and she said No, even hair as long and thick as mine would not even weigh a quarter of a pound soaking wet, if that.
So yah, don't worry about it. Although I have seen people on MFP 'subtract' for their long hair :laugh:0 -

You cuttingu hair isn't going to affect your weight on the scale.0 -
I just plaited my long hair and put it on the scales. It weighs 55grams - about 2 ounces! :-D2
-
hahahhahaha. sorry1

I'm guilty of trying to subtract hair weight :laugh:0

This sounds a bit... desperate. Even just using the bathroom would make your weight change more.
It's just a few ounces / a few hundred grams. Depends on the thickness of your hair, too. And what do you know, someone on Youtube even weighed their hair (48" long!) and it still only came to 0.5 lbs / 225 g: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XduqBu1s44Y1 -
I saw this topic and am absolutely convinced that it's a JOKE thread... and if not? It should be!
... sorry, but sometimes people just get a little too serious about every little ounce - this is a journey not a destination. Your hair will grow, you'll get it cut, it'll grow again. That? Shouldn't really be something you are worried about when looking at how you are doing in the overall perspective.
And with that - I'm gonna not read beyond the first couple of posts and walk out of here thinking that this was indeed a joke thread.0 -

Depends on length and thickness. I have medium to fine hair so my hair would be lighter than my mom who has thicker and longer hair than mine. In any event, it's still not that much. You may wanna stick with losing weight from your actual body though.0

Okay, side note, how much does poop weigh? Because no joking aside, I always weigh in after I poop.
I totally get the hair question!! But I agree, it's probably a negligible amount.1 -
I'm gonna have a shave next weigh in day :bigsmile:1
-
Honestly.. has anyone that's laughed about this ever had thick, long hair up in a pony tail?
It has to be 2 pounds, possibly more. Hold a butt length thick braid in your hand away from your body for 5mins.2 -
every time I log in something on this site amazes me. since the point of losing weight/getting healthy is losing fat - what in the heck could hair weight have to do with ANYTHING? what if the scale hasnt moved- shall we assume your hair was invisible and weighed nothing?!3
