You should say to them that you can lose weight but they will always be ugly! Cheeky feckers x

A girl is beautiful no matter what, I still get told I am to big. You are beautiful at the size you are now and you will be just as beautiful at your goal size!

Response should be "You'd be smart if you weren't so stupid."

I love this! I usally just give a sarcastic thanks or say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
But I think I might use your line when I feel like they are just being rude.

I HATE that line... it's freaking terrible. Might as well just go up to someone and be like "you'd be pretty if you didn't have that face" or "you'd be pretty if your eye brows were less bushy" or anything like that... you don't say "you'd be pretty IF" just say "you're pretty" -.- Even if you think they'd be prettier if they lost weight, who's to say YOU make that call, and who's to say it's polite. You could just make someones day by ending that at "you're pretty".

I'm usually all for playing the understanding, not rising to the bait card, but people who say something like this should be betch slapped. Hard.

Don't let who you are or how you feel about yourself be dictated by morons who are too tied into cake-mold beauty to see that it's inappropriate and presumptive to say things like that.

I whole-heartedly agree with the poster who said your response should be "You'd be smart if you weren't so stupid."

These comments are rude and really annoying to hear from strangers.

HOWEVER...I just smile and say "Sweetie I am beautiful either way" and go on with my day.

Some people speak and then think...I don't believe they intend, most times, for their comments to come out in a hurtful manner, but they do.

The last time someone said that to me it was an elderly lady that was new to our church. I decided to look her dead in the eye and say "Aww, thanks! But you know what? I'm already pretty-losing weight would just make me skinnier." Boy did I make that lady MAD! But the other ladies that were waiting were amused!

    Awesome comeback! :D

    -true beauty lies within

This! I've met some really ugly people who were stunning until they opened their mouths.

As to the OP, people who say things like that are passive aggressive. I know to ignore them is easier said than done, but focus on yourself and your goals and take what they say with a grain of salt. You must be beautiful already if they're bothering to say something in the first place. I hate that we live in a country where one's weight is synonymous with their beauty.

Oh my god first off that woman has some damn nerve saying something like that to you... no one ever has reason to be saying something so freakin rude... You go off of how you feel honey not what others say... do what makes you feel pretty! "skinny" doesnt mean your pretty! Just saying. Brush that crap off and laugh in there face when folks say that rude stuff.

A guy said that to me in a pub once - actually took me aside and gave me a lecture on how I could be so attractive to men if I'd only stop eating cake.

    I don't eat cake

It was all I could do not to pour a drink over his head.

Should have done. And then said, "My decision to eat cake never has anything to do with your pen*s"

    What a doosh.

People used to say that to my girlfriend all the the time....She had the best reply of all time...." you would have such a great body if you had plastic surgery on your face"

I mean really...whats the difference right?

It is a backhanded compliment. Very rude & unacceptable. I usually reply with "And you, too, would be quite attractive if you weren't such a jerk."

It's ignorant and rude!!!! Save your energy for people that matter.

I still deal with hurtful things people have said to me along the way. The key is to be able to rise above it - easier said than done.

I'd probably come back with something like, "Maybe, but you'll always be a stupid b*tch."

    Or I'd throw an elbow.

    Or both.

I would have said "you'd be pretty if you didn't speak". Then I would have hissed at 'em.

What's up with strangers commenting on your weight, anyway?

"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all" <-- Thumper's dad was a wise man...uhm...rabbit.
