I have yet to start using the friends feature on here, but on most social media sites I try to keep my friends to a small people that I actually like learning about or talk to, or people that post interesting things. I think that if you feel like there's no connection or you're not getting anything from their journals or statuses...then go ahead and delete! MFP should primarily be about getting healthy and be a positive place, and if it's becoming a Debby Downer zone for you, well...do what you can to fix it!0

I acually tried to keep up with everyone on my friend list but found out that its too much work with my schedule.
I tend to gravitate towards the people that I find interesting or funny. I also like anyone who is a runner.
This is not Facebook where everyone is on all the time.......I kind of like that about MFP.0 -
Maybe they think you're needy and whiny.0

As long as they long in occasionally, post something funny or rude or entertaining, and send naked pictures, what else do you need?
Where do I find the naked pictures?? lol
Hahahaha......where are the naked pictures ?
Thanks for the laugh.0 -
I WILL BE YOUR AWESOME MOTIVATOR FRIEND Especially because you love the steelers just as much as I do haha I know it sucks but I just think that you need a new round of friends. There's plenty of us awesome people out here
Exactly what she said ^^ :drinker:0 -
That you always try and support every day but they never support you back? I have 20 friends on my list...and I always take a few minutes every time im on to say a good word on their diarys, exercise and posts...and I only have 2 who are supportive back! Its just irritating me, its like the take and take and dont give back. I understand if the working people cant comment every day...but at least a few times a week...but I get nothing from these other people ever. Does this irritate you?
Some ppl are quiet and not going to be just like me, have a very busy household, are very limited on computer time etc. The fact that they log in to me is a reason to celebrate not be grumpy at them because "it's not all about me" today.
I know you'll find plenty that feel like you do and there will be some that don't and then you'll have many that don't respond to this type of thread because they don't have time...and that's A OK with me.
I'm here for ME and if I can help anyone along the path I'm eager to do that. But I don't rely on others comment to keep me going because once I turn off my computer the comments are gone anyway. Then we're on our own right?
I don't expect anything in return for my comments or kindness in general in life so when it comes back around as Karma, it's a sweet surprise!
Cheers & Congrats for finding MFP and beginning a healthy new path!:drinker:0 -

Nope, because I removed those people from my friends list. There's just no point.0

I think it's about giving where you feel like it... and receiving without expectations. I mean, sure... if you have people who never or rarely talk, then that can be a drag. But sometimes people are just really busy with work and life... and sometimes there are people I find worth following even though they can't comment often.
But most importantly... give without expectations of receiving.
Maybe you need to find more friends... and more compatible friends. There are lots of awesome people on here.
I agree but I do believe we are all really busy with life. There are times I work 70 hours a week, still workout and manage my home plus comment on others profiles. I do not expect back but for me personally that wasn't my point. It's more the fact I do not have a lot of time to sit on the PC reading and commenting on so many others posts when there is nothing back from some. Or they do not workout and or log in daily so they are not dedicated. It's just my way of keeping my list personal.
And YES! Lots of awesome people on here!0 -
Cut the ones who don't support you. Work on keeping up with the ones who do and adding people you think you'll most get along with.0

Wildly inappropriate pics is all I ask for. Everyone else got deleted.0

I'm quite sure people delete me if they realise we're not alike or don't have similar goals. I've done that, what's the big deal?! It's not like these people are real life friends, if they are tell them you need more support and they'll give it to you I'm sure.0

I'd have to say... I don't really care. My friends have their own lives and I'm in no position to judge how/when they use MFP. If they post and I catch it, I comment appropriately. If I never hear from someone after becoming MFP "friends" I really don't notice - I'm too busy with day-to-day stuff to bother tracking who is a good "pal" and who isn't.0

Maybe they think you're needy and whiny.
They KNOW it now! :sad:0 -
Yes I do, and I'm probably one myself. I tend to interact with those who interact with me. So, the few friends I have that don't interact with me, I'm not worried about it. I like reading the forums and using the tools. It's all good.0

when i work 12hr shifts I don't respond or comment to anyone. However on off days I sit with my morning coffee and do the good jobs and way to go's on almost every wall post. I've found that only 10 or so people consistently respond and have another 2 or 3 I message regularly. That's fine with me, anymore and it would be hard to keep up.0

I have those in real life. Lol
for a minute that's who i thought the OP was talking about! HA!! i have those friends.0 -

Uh, no...that im not. I have never complained about comments or lack there of. I very rarley even post statuses that are not my exercise or diary.
Ive been cleaning all day and just got back on here, suprised at the response! Ive never made a post before...my first one! And thanks for the abundance of friend requests from people needing/wanting support! I have accepted everyone and will probably be deleting the inactive unsupportive ones!
And to clear up one thing that a few people mentioned, I know people are busy and have lives, if you would read my post properly I said I dont expect comments all the time but at least one a week or something! Yes I come here for support...if I didnt want support I can just log my cals on my own without being on a diet site. I dont need this site to log cals, i got on it for support and encouragment because i havent been able to loose my baby weight since giving birth and I thought friends might keep me motivated!0 -

There might be a group here for women specifically trying to lose baby weight??! Might be worth looking into!0 -

Maybe it's this.
I usually interact with people who do more than just post about exercise or diet. What if you just tried posting some fun stuff too? Sometimes ppl on here need to 'get to know you' a bit more.0 -
I only get mad if they aren't supportive in real life. I think sometimes people just miss stuff on MFP.0
-
This is why I'm kind of indifferent to the "friends" feature on this site. This isn't Facebook. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to lose weight. I track my food, get advice and encouragement when needed from the message boards, and go on my merry way. I don't really need someone checking my food diary or patting me on the back because I made it to the gym.
Encouragement from others is great, but I've learned I'm much more happier with myself and my progress when I motivate MYSELF. Because my opinion of who I am and what I'm doing is really all that matters.
^^^ THIS RIGHT HERE!!!!!! *where is that doggone LOVE button at?*0 -
Delete them. Honestly if they don't post any comments to you, they probably won't even notice you deleted them.0

Some of these replies are kinda harsh and that's ok but something some of you need to realize, when people are mothers, students, workaholics, or just plain introverts because of a weight issue it is hard to have friends. I manage a business with two other employees, I do not go to school, and most of my clients are older ladies whom I wouldn't get a great relationship from. When it comes to really close friend I have one female and a few guys. I was NEVER compatible having girl friends, they drove me insane with their whiny high school bullsh*t. Now that I am 23 years old I realize holy cow, I have no friends. I have no one to brag to about how I am doing and although I am not doing this for anyone else it feels good to scream it to the world. I have met so many wonderful people on this site that give me encouragement, even in the hard times. Anyone who has had any weight loss, especially as big as mine, would know that this isn't an easy journey and without a wall of support behind you it is tempting to give up.
It especially bothers me when someone who was quite small to begin with, and only has to lost 10-15 pounds to be in "perfect bikini condition" can have an opinion about a woman who needs to lose more than that and needs the support. You don't know what it is like to be on a huge journey like this and what it feels like to need that support.
Boom, this is my word.0
