My maiden name is Norris. I loved it. My son kept my maiden name and his nickname is Chuck. He was the high school kicker/punter.

I'm pretty much screwed all around.

I hate my current last name. Its never pronounced correctly. Not to mention its a regional name so people know I'm not from around here. Its an awful reminder of what my stepdad did and was towards me for so many years.

SO....I also don't want my birth last name either as I don't want to be affiliated with my real dad or what he did either.

I'm not married and not dating anyone so taking someone else's is not in the near future.

And lastly...I don't want my mom's maiden name because Ellis Island butchered it to hell and is ridiculously mispronounced from what it originated from in Slovakia.

No. It's French but no one pronounces it correctly in the French way...not even my extended family. :grumble:

I would happily get rid of it for a common last name like Smith or Anderson.

Mine's Polish and 13-letters long. I married last year (to a very common 'Martin') but kept my name, despite it being mispronounced, kicked, pushed, and butchered throughout the years.

It brings me strength and a history to tell to my kids and about my heritage. I love it :-). There's under 20 of us left in the world, even back home in the Motherland, so I'd love to keep it going.

My last name is Bergbom pronounced berg bomb. Its really simple if you take two seconds to look at it but NO ONE ever gets it right! I hear bergham, bergum, bergebum. Lol. It's amazing how many ways people can screw up 2 simple syllables. I hated in school kids would call me bird bomb. Now that I am grown it doesn't bother me, I just laugh when people say it wrong.

No. My last name is Belt and it's made for waaay too many stupid jokes. Even my father changed his name. Hopefully I'll get married and get a better last name.

I HATED mine for many reasons (some shallow, others not so) so I changed it to my mother's maiden name for $70.

Why live in misery or wait to get married? I took matters into my own hands!

How did you do that? I have wanted to change my first AND last name for YEARS.

You file a "petition to change name" form with your town's probate court. You get a court date, appear in front of a judge to swear you're not changing it to avoid the Feds and then you're done!

I loved my maiden name Collins, now my married name gets butchered lol. It's norweigen (not that he is "really" from there) the first half is Aus pronounced OZ

It seemed like every college class the first day it was said *kitten*. Most of the time I was one of the first so when they would say Holly......... I would just say my name, then they would ask me to repeat it lol.

When I did my student teaching all the kids called me Mrs. Aus (as in Mrs. Oz) I really liked that.

I love my last name :)

I'm getting married next August though, so I'll have a new last name, I'll like it, just not as much as my last name now :)
Everyone pronounces my last name wrong, which drives me nuts sometimes.
  • Heck ya! it's Italian.

@ Skinnymissmeliss: Anderson is a Swedish name that no American pronounce correctly. :)
  • Mine is very common as well, but I guess it's nice.

Yes because it is not a common last name.
  • Ha! I was thinking about changing my last name back to my maiden name just two weeks ago! It was very easy to tell when a telemarketer called :)

I have decided to keep my married name . . . for now.

I don't mind it. It is not that common. I've neverpersonally run into anyone else who shares the last name - and spells it the same - that isn't related to me. It does baffle me that people spell it incorrectly 90% of the time and mispronounce it 60% of the time. I mean, come on, it's only five common letters strung together. I do get a little tired of getting asked if I'm related to Bob every single time I'm introduced to someone.

Mine is Ransom, like a ransom note. Usually everyone tells me that I have a cool last name. I've only had 1 person misspell my last name and they spelled it R A M S O M. When I let the person know they spelled my last name wrong, they laughed and made a joke afterwards saying, " haha, sorry, I guess I thought you were going to RAM SOM tonight." Weird!

Love my married last name! :)

My maiden name got on my nerves. No one knew how to spell it and it was only five freaking letters long.

i have never met anyone outside of my family that has the same last name with the same spelling. there are a few out there that spell it with one "L" instead of two or another variation. But all-in-all, it's great last name.
  • NO.....way too common!

I hate mine. Adopted into it and its very uncommon, plus bad childhood etc.. compounded by the fact that adoptive parent hasnt been in my life for the last 15+ years. I have always wanted to take my grandfather's last name (Ross). Its simple and I like it. Problem is, I am quite accomplished in my field and have made a name for myself over the last 10 years. I am known by associates across the globe by my current last name. Sucks! =(
  • Nope, its French and nobody pronounces it right the first time.

my maiden name is also French, 10 letters long and no one would pronounce it right on the first, second or third time.

so happy to have changed my name now

I have loved both of my last names. As a child I wished it was closer to "A" in the alphabet though. My married name is awesome; though no one can pronounce it.
  • I love my last name, after a Google search it appears my brother and I are the only people with the surname in the world.. When my Mum remarried my parents couldn't decide if I should have my biological Dads name or my stepdads name, to save argument they double barrelled it.
