BEST food i've ever had at a wedding. great company, and i was able to spend time w/ every person who attended. LOVED EVERY MINUTE!!!

the one you didn't ask and the best question
Yes it's over0 -
I got married over 15 years ago, so I can't answer many of them, because I just don't remember. But I do shoot a lot of wedding and can tell you what I know from them.
1, How long did you plan? We planned for maybe six months.
2. How much did you spend? (sorry if that's personal) Was this more/less than you planned? I have no idea.
3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up? 100 to 150.
4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)? No. But I guest seem to love the candy bars with little bags to take home their faves.
5. What season was your wedding in? Summer. HINT: if you are getting married outside, don't get married in the summer. You'll be hot and so will your guests. No one likes to sweat in pictures or in that beautiful gown.
6. What time of day and day of the week was it? Mine? 2pm on a Saturday. I suggest if you are not going to see the groom before hand that you give plenty of daylight after the wedding for pictures. ( I HIGHLY recommend doing a first look and seeing the groom before hand and getting all pictures out of the way. Cuts down on lots and lots of stress.)
7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out? I would have enjoyed my reception more and I would have not cheaped out on the photographer. I hate my wedding photos. Make sure you see several examples of your photographers work and NEVER NEVER go with a shoot and burner. You will not be happy.
8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it? I don't think we had one.
9. What were your colors? Black
10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which? Family and friends cooked all the food.0 -

3. How many people were invited/ how many showed up?
• invited about 250, 150 came (it was 95% out of town wedding; 1000 miles away)
4. What did you give out for favors (if you had them)?
• i can ask the Hubs since he is sitting across from me but the fact that I don't remember what we did NOR do I remember what most people do, I suggest doing a candy bar or donation to a charity. Those are the ones I remember the most.
5. What season was your wedding in?
• late summer, early fall
6. What time of day and day of the week was it?
• ceremony was at 5pm, it was on a Sunday of a holiday weekend (so everyone had Monday off)
7. 1 thing you would change about the way it turned out?
• wouldn't have spent as much on my dress
• wouldn't have obsessed about the details as much
8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it?
• THOSE WHITE DOVES ((juuuuust kidding)
• with our own money, probably my dress ($7k) i loved it but i DID only wear it once.... veil as well. was a little too long and not my style, looking back.
• the Hubs lost his wedding ring within a year on a canoe trip (it was $400 and he now wears a $50 ring that loves even more)
• loved my white calla lilies that I walked down the aisle with
• LOVED our location, WORTH every penny
9. What were your colors?
• fall colors like maroon, deep yellows and oranges
10. Did you do any DIY project to save money? If so, which?
• save the dates, invitations, table cards, place cards, and more I'm sure but it was 6 years ago and I can't remember what I did yesterday :P
••••
The older I get, the more I talk to more people about things they wish they changed. The number one thing that we all agree on is to not spend as much money on the wedding but to save it for the honeymoon. Also a couple of friends have eloped with a *few* family members and then came back to have a big reception for everyone else. Don't do what your family wants you do to or expects you to do, this day is about the both of you and your commitment to one another.

8.Biggest splurge (financially)? Was it worth it?
The biggest single cost was probably our catering, about $1000 - absolutely worth it - we got a catering company to provide finger food and buffet style lunch in a hired hall. Nobody had to worry about whether they liked what was on offer, they could pick for themselves.

I made the invitations. We hired chair covers and table cloths. We went in and set up the hall ourselves the day before, and then the following day came back and cleaned up. My husband made his own beers for the guests to enjoy. I used my Mp3 player to provide for our music, attached to an amplifier and speakers.
It was pretty much perfect for us. We put $100 a week away for costs and came out without any debt.0 -

Our wedding was kind of cheesy. We got married at a church that basically just does weddings. They have a preplanned service. You just pick from a list which songs, readings, and vows you want. It takes about 20 minutes for the whole service. We didn't hire a photographer, but we got lucky because so many people took pictures and sent us copies. We also had a relative that made a video. I didn't even know she did it until she sent me a copy. We wanted to keep expenses down. This was my first wedding but not my hubby's. Looking back I wish we would have went a little more low-key. I would have had more fun in a park with my friends and close relatives. Renting a hall and inviting people who I haven't even seen since was silly.0 -

I've never been married..However I've been to a lot of weddings and have watched many many many people plan their weddings.
The ones that had simple weddings, didn't spend a ton of money or time seemed to stress less and have more fun.
The ones that spent 15k, 20k, 30k on their weddings...stressed more than any human should and ended up not enjoying their big day because they just "Wanted it to be over with"..
I plan to do a destination wedding, paying for his parents and my parents...and just go away, get married, and honeymoon right there.0 -
