I'd rather just read or watch real porn. Adult fanfiction.net is free and the 50 shades fanfic for twilight is still up there.

Plus I'm not really into the whole abusive relationship thing. It doesn't make me feel sexy to read about domestic violence. There are plenty of better BDSM stories that are much better written and portray a healthy couple or a flat out fantasy.

I got maybe 1/3 of the way through and couldn't even keep going. Thank god I got the book from the elibrary. I would have been ticked if I actually spent money on it!

I haven't read it nor will I see the movie. Frankly reading about somebody's "great sex" sounds boring..I have other things to do!

I haven't read it. I will tell you what... it is soooo disturbing seeing old women reading that on my train to work. Damn....
  • I haven't either. I picked up a copy the same day I picked up a book on Led Zeppelin, and I was definitely more interested in the latter. I did read the first chapter and started to doze off, literally, and despite everyone telling me it gets better as the book goes on, I suspect the book will continue to sit on the nightstand as long as there are other books to read, TV shows to watch, bathrooms to clean, dentists appointments to keep, etc

I'm concerned the book will add to women thinking they need to say yes to violence in sex (from what I've heard). Will this give more trouble for victims of rape being accused of asking for it?? Haven't read it, not interested, and disappointed people can't be imaginative on their own without someone else telling them what is erotic!

No I'm sticking to well written books and not trashy twilight fanfiction that would probably turn my brain cell to dust.
  • I haven't and I don't intend to

You know, I really don't get the big deal anymore. I read those books, I liked them, then I moved on. Haha.

Oh, I've never read Lord of the Rings and I have yet to get started on Game of Thrones. There, that's my literary confession for the day. =p

I have read the first one and thought it was CRAP........the "porn" is extremely repetitive and boring in the end. I was then persuaded to read the second one on the understanding it has more of a storyline.......eh no......same repetitive CRAP - I've not even finished it.
  • I havne't read it either.. so many good books in the world.. why would I wanna waste time on that crap... I'm not a twilight fan either... I prefer books of substance... that just seemed like smut.

The sex isn't really violent. The problem is that Christian Grey is a controlling, stalking, emotionally abusive creep and women around the world are drooling over him.

I dated a man like that once (minus the billions). It's not a good thing. It is NOT romantic.

Nope not read it & never intend to. Just doesn't appeal to me. Know a lot of people who have & they didn't rate it so not missing much!!! It's not the "porn" side - I don't like to idea of reading a book where the lead male character is a control freak & likes to have power over the woman. I can also imagine it just getting boring half way through!!

I've tried to read it, but I just can't get past the first couple of chapters. It's just so bad. It's so freaking cliche, and not in a good way.

I don't think there is any "reading" involved in Fifty Shades... it's more like infant pictograph recognition.

I read the hilarious reviews on Amazon then started the sample - and went back to Harry Turtledove for some sanity

So, "No!" - you are not alone

and, 'if a million people believe a stupid thing it is still a stupid thing applies, in my opinion

Yeahhh haven't read it and don't plan on reading it.
Not really into those kind of books.
Hate when books like this come out of the woodwork that turn people into what they think is someone who "reads." Sighhhhh.

I read a little more than half of the first book and didn't even bother to finish it.

It make me 50 Shades of Sad for a LOT of people's sex lives that were going "Wow this is SO HOT".. um... no... it's poorly written, low class smut. It's not even hot for it's genre, not even close.

Nope, I haven't read it either, have been offered it by 3 different people that had finished it. I heard that the guy was very domineering and I have big problems with that.

    I'd rather re-read "Story of O".
Or some Anais Nin or Henry Miller

I actually got into an argument with my male 49 year old friend about it. Some how he took offense as he lumped it into Twilight and he thought they were awesome movies and I should watch those movies as I'm missing out.

I read a few pages and scanned through and found it extremely disturbing.

I was in an abusive relationship and the abuser was far too similar to Grey.

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who has been abused.

I'd rather step on my own nuts.

No no. That's a completely different book.
  • Ha Ha Ha My friend sent it to me on my kindle to borrow, and it is by far one of the worst books I have ever cracked open... Where was the editor? Better yet, why didn't the author own a thesaurus?!?
  • Nope! I haven't read it and don't plan to, I've never read/seen twilight and will not either. I'll stick to the classics and Harry potter lol
