Lol why are you weighing your eggs????? Gosh some people make eating so difficult. They are already sorted into sizes... large, extra large, etc.... being a few calories off is not that big of a deal. Calorie amounts are not exact anyway. They are rounded. You don't see very many things that say "82 calories" on the nutrition label...0

I weigh eggs, too, because I get them from my CSA and not the grocery store so they are all different sizes, but even the ones you get at the store aren't all the same size. I weigh bananas and all the other fruit I eat, too. I have enough meals or portions of meals that I can't weigh from eating out most work days at lunch that I feel like I should weigh everything I can. You might be surprised how far off the nutrition labels are, too, especially with slices of bread and pre-sliced cheese.0

I weigh EVERYTHING and even I don't weigh eggs. They're already weighed when they're sorted in to the sizes they're sold as- Large, XL, Jumbo, etc.
As for bananas- I did actually weigh a few of them when I first started so I could get a visual understanding of 'large' and 'medium' bananas. You weigh them without skin. The thing about bananas is- one of the main benefits is that you can get them as convenience foods- and weighing them every time you're going to have one is very inconvenient. Don't make this harder on yourself than you need to.
This. exactly. I started out weighing EVERYTHING. Then, I got to where I could estimate pretty well when I'm not in my kitchen. If I am in my kitchen, I still weigh things. I frequently even use my scale to portion out my recipe into 4 equal servings. That level of OCD and I don't weigh eggs. I also generally use egg whites though... I think the yolk tastes icky.0 -

Seems silly, since the yolk:white ratio is what actually matters. No point in weighing an egg if you aren't going to log the yolk and white separately.0 -
Ok, I am going to ask a stupid question............I count the calories and ensure I use the correct serving size for my log. But why do people weigh their food, whats the benefit to this? Am I missing something? And for the recorded I guess I would only weigh what I eat, so without the shell.0

Weighing is generally more accurate than volume, and far more accurate than estimating. There are other benefits.
If I have a family dinner where I know how many total calories of the ingredients in the pan, then I weigh the empty pan, cook the dinner and weigh the cooked product, then I subtract the weight of the pan. If I have 2.8 pounds that has 2780 calories , and I eat 7oz of that - I can calculate my serving count.
Its a lot of extra work - but it stops overeating.0 -

No, I get why you'd want to weigh your eggs, I mean, some packs come in mixed sizes, and different countries have different sizes. The database entry lists small, medium, large, extra large and jumbo. What I buy as medium or large here correlates to the large or extra large in the database.
Personally, I just match up my egg carton data to the closest nutrition by picking whatever size comes closest to what my pack says. But yeah, shell weight's negligible.

Hi guys,
I want to weigh my eggs (using the egg - raw) and was wondering if I weigh them with the shell and input that or do I weigh the liquid inside after breaking them?
Same question for bananas - raw: is this with or without the peel?
Put a bowl on the scale, zero it out, crack eggs into bowl.0 -
Honestly you are overthinking it. Just eat the egg and log it as 1 egg ( large,jumbo,medium etc.) I also weigh out food but I don't worry about the weight of an egg. Worry about the measurements that will make a big difference (peanut butter, oil, butter, etc) its way easier to add say an extra 100 calories of those things than say an "egg". I am not mocking you at all either I'm just saying sometimes people really make things harder than they really need to be.0

How about picking an averaged size of the lot as a base and log it as 1.5 servings if you eat a large one No nutritional value is 100% accurate no matter how precise you weigh and log your foods.
Main thing is you enjoy your eggs0 -

yeah, I just go with the egg listing in the data base, compared it to my egg carton info to make sure we were talking about the same size egg, and it matched up so I just use that

I'd say that since an egg shell weighs something like one megabajillinth of an ounce, you might not need to seriously worry about it.
As for the banana, that is a bit easier to weigh without the peel, but I think you might be better off just logging in the 'banana, large, medium, small etc.'

Aaaah, that makes sense. I have chickens who lay a variety of sizes. To be honest, I just use the generic "farm fresh, pasture raised egg" and figure it averages out. But, if you are wanting to be more specific, I've also done this:
Bantam egg (silkies, etc.): medium egg
Smallish-medium standard sized egg: large egg
Largish standard sized egg: extra large egg
I also have ducks, and log those as just "duck egg, generic". They are fattier than chicken eggs and have a higher albumen content.0 -
