Ok the scale is BROKE.You can gain some water/sodium intake weight, but no way that much over night. My advice, check the batteries,or get a new scale.Make sure you weigh yourself the same time and way every time you weigh to not get any unecessary variations.Best of luck, don't fret abt.the number,IT IS WRONG!0

interesting reply - whats the banana connection?
callback to previous poster claiming that bananas made her fat. Hilarity ensued.0 -
It could be muscle. Have you been using the shake weight or maybe tae bo?
OVERNIGHT? ARE YOU FLIPPING INSANE?
what, you've never heard of that? Could also be from heavy lifting, that'll make you gain at least 14lbs overnight.0 -
this thread makes my head hurt.
oh wait that was from banging it on the desk.0 -

Happened to me once.... Then I realised I was still holding the weights...0 -
Is Fluffy missing? Maybe you ate the cat in your sleep.0
-
Maybe your eyes were tired last night and the scale actually said 181 instead of 161...6 and 8 are easily confused through sleepy eyes.....in that case.....you actually lost 2 lbs this morning0
-
Do you keep your scale in exactly the same place? Our scale will weigh a bit differently depending on where we sit it down, so i keep it in exactly the same spot and that made it a lot more stable. The scale I had before (I threw it away) would weigh up to 15 pounds difference depending on just "how" you stood on it, or which foot you stepped up onto it with...obviously a broken scale.
On the other hand, if you are convinced your scale is correct.......People in my family have been able to gain massive amounts of water when they ate a little too much salt and drank a ton of water (or whatever other liquids they consume.) I know there are those that think that much is impossible but I assure you, it's not.
If you truly gained 18 lbs overnight, then rest assured it is NOT fat-weight, it's more than likely water-weight.0 -
I once ate 10lbs of pizza for lunch (verified by before/after on a shipping scale). But I could tell I was heaver. Your scale got jacked.
You should contact Food Network immediately. Even Adam Richman from Man vs. Food can only take on -/+ 7lbs of food at a time. You could be the next big star in television gluttony.
That was years ago, way back in my younger days. I got so disgusted with my self I started exercising the next day and dropped like 40 pounds over the next few months walking and jogging. But like I said that was years ago, I since gained all that back plus another 100. I am looking forward to getting back in the 200s.0 -
Something similar happened to me last week...all of a sudden the scale said I gained 7-8lbs yet my clothes didn't feel any tighter. It turned out that our bathroom floor (wood) was all sorts of messed up due to a leak and it had absorbed a ton of water. Hopefully you don't have a screwed up floor and it's just a screwed up scale.0

Did you look down and check if your cat was sitting on it with you??0
-
I would check the scale but I would also just weigh myself in the morning after ur first void. It could also be a lot of other factors. What time did you stop eating, what did you eat, tom... 18 pounds seems like a lot.0
-
I would say that I would check the scale, but if it wee me that scale would have been shattered against my concrete porch.
Dr Oz, who I don't like, briefly addresses the issue: http://www.sharecare.com/question/possible-gain-weight-overnight0 -
Yeah... that doesn't sound right. Make sure your scale is level or has new batteries. I know that if my scale is not level, it will fluctuate dramatically. I always keep it in the exact same place every day to ensure an accurate result. Good luck!0
-
I am not a nurse but work in an er and I can tell you if you really gained that much over night thats a sign of water retention which could be sign of heart problems, try another scale say at a Publix if you have one or stop by your dr just to weigh and if it is that big of a change you need to see your dr.0

The only thing that I had yesterday that im not to proud of is 1 serving of a canned soup0
-
If it was 18 lbs of fluid, I'm thinking you would probably be dead by now. Put your scale in the same place everytime you weigh and may need to purchase a new one if it continues to fluculate!!0
-
I lot 15 lbs overnight once....Changed the batteries in my scale and gained in back....ugh!0
-
Whoa now people... lets not rule out an alien parasite. Did you see how quickly that alien baby grew in 'Prometheus?' :P0

 That's hilarious.
I disagree with others that have suggested your scale is 'broke' unless it recently lost it's job. Broken, yes.0 -
That's not biologically possible under any scenario that I can imagine so this is either a scale error or a user error.0
-
I had that issue once... I learned that you're not supposed to store your scale sideways.
Seriously. I wondered WTF was up with my scale. I can step on three times in a row and it'll be three different readings.0 -
Ummm...I couldn't stand to read all the posts because this is just silly for you to actually believe that you GAINED WEIGHT WHILE SLEEPING. Not gonna happen, at least not 18 pounds worth. Perhaps you have a monkey on your back that you are unaware of.
Please tell me this was all just a joke.
And I totally agree with the comment of scales being 'broke'. I'm glad I'm not the only word Nazi on MFP.0 -
Yeah your scale. One time I lost 84lbs overnight. That was quite an accomplishment. Except that it was my broken scale.0
-
did you check to see if your pillows were still on the bed when you woke? not sure how many cals in 2 pillows, but that might be the culprit if they are missing0
-
I had that issue once... I learned that you're not supposed to store your scale sideways. If you do, you need to put it down, and not touch it for a couple of minutes before you use it. Apparently, if you move your scale around and then step on it, it's likely to be inaccurate. I've now plunked my scale down in a spot in my room and am no longer moving it around. My numbers are much more stable.
This is interesting. I have always stored mine leaning up against the wall. I'll have to try leaving it on the floor.
I do know that some scales have a slight memory in them. If your weight does not change by at least 1 pound, it will give you the same reading as you last had. I always put my scale down and step on it lightly with just one leg. After it reads that weight, I let it zero out again and then step onto it properly. This way it will give me the daily little ups and downs.0 -
There's 2 possibilities:
1. Your scale isn't functioning properly, you moved it to another spot and weighed yourself... uneven flooring.. combination of variables ...
2. You MISREAD the scale the night before .. weighed 181 lbs .. and LOST 2 lbs overnight and weighed 179 lbs in the morning.
You typically weigh less in the mornings than you do at night ..0 -
Have you seen your cat today???0
-

She would have to check and see if part of the mattress was missing too if that was the case.0 -
You had an immaculate conception0
