Had a cleaning business while children were home so I could be at home with them. Then at age 45 went to work in a warehouse unloading semi trailers by hand(yep thought I might die at the end of the day) finally built up muscle, did that for 7 years then went into the shipping office as a clerical was there 7 years till one day they said this will be your last day so now after 14 years I find myself 59 years old unemployed. Here's the problem I no longer can lift and throw 40 to 50 lb.boxes was never trained on equipment and I only used one screen in the shipping office to complete my job so I'm not qualified for office work either according to the requirements company's ask for. I have had a few interviews in several warehouses but only the ones where I left a resume(it did not disclose my age). I can't hardly blame them I'm sure they don't look at me as a long term employee.
I still need to make a living so....... I'll probably be at the local McDonald's maybe they won't discriminate against my age or maybe the Dollar Tree or local grocery store.
Not very pretty after reading about what all of you's are doing for a living I guess some one has to do the dirty work.....0 -
I was once a retail clerk (Safeway), college student, U.S. Marine, Firefighter/EMT and now a 13 year Sheriff's Deputy veteran (best job I have ever had or dreamt of having). Basically, I am a roadside couselor, parenting advisor, idiot tamer and on a good day, I get to take a bad guy or gal to jail and possibly make someones world a little safer or more worry free. Love my job!0

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for 15 years specializing in color services. I love my clients and my trade. The current salon I am in needs work. I was employed for 10 years in the same shop. They made some bad management choices and I left. I havent found my comfort spot yet. Next step is going into business for myself. I have the following, just not the start up capital.0

I am a 3rd Party Billing Specialist working at a TRIBAL mental health and substance abuse outpatient clinic in AZ...I have been in this position for almost 15 years...started at a decent rate, and have progressed to near the top of the scale, but usually you have to start at the bottom rate...I am responsible for billing for about 30 clinicians or staff members, and usually can't keep up, everyone is constantly bringing me more to do........so there is a lot of pressure all the time...but I love it, because I KNOW I'm important and have job security...I would't give it up for the world....I got my start 22 years ago billing for oxygen in the home, hospital bed rentals, etc...then went to mental health billing (non Tribal)...actually, I am self taught...I just was given the opportunity to try and made it happen...and still at it.....
Might I add that I am a single mom who raised two kids by myself, and am a home owner...so the position of billing does pay well enough to support yourself...am the job opportunities are growing0 -
Went to Art school and graphic design school, worked for several years with a design firm....and now im a freelance designer.
i love the work and the freedom it comes with...but it was total hell to get here....no assurance of work....but if you stick to it and build your clientele, its awesome

im awesome for a living, but to make money i work at a television station, and plan on starting a small business0

Cds worker with mentally challenged seniors mostly although I have worked with younger individuals who have brain injuries. I took this job 6 years ago because I wanted to help people and yes it is rewarding but it can also be very stressful.0

I'm in medical billing, have been since my first job (part-time, nights) when I was 16. People have told me to get certification for coding (I'd make more money) but frankly I'm getting tired of it. Sitting in front of a computer all day long, submitting claims and dealing with irate patients on the phone. I'd rather be doing something more creative.
What I really should do is finish my novel that I started many moons ago. That's my dream - to be a successful published author of fiction and (gasp) poetry. But they say, print is dead. What to do, what to do...

I went to school for English and taught high school for a few years. Now I manage my fiance's outdoor shop. The stress levels have gone down and the fun has gone way up. I love my job and the benefits of meeting amazing athletes, sales reps, do gear testing, and being able to go climb/hike/run just about whenever.0 -

Stay at home mom, and CEO of our household. Before this, I worked in an auto repair shop. My real dream was always to train horses and teach people to ride. Its kinda sidelined now with a toddler and another baby on the way! I can still dream though.0

Don't shortchange yourself, person who is 50! I am 50 also, and am just finishing a job I had for 17 years, and am working on a graduate degree and started a small company, and consult for others--I think that anyone at any age can change their situations for the better. Some jobs are not glamourous, but they can pay the bills, like using your experience to help others--good luck.0

I'm an archaeologist, But I'm starting a Museum Studies MA Next year. The pay isn't great but it's what I love As long as I have a roof over my head and food in my fridge I'm happy digging a ditch or working in a museum 0

Right now I'm trying to get ready to go to uni and figure out what I wanna do for the rest of my life. (No pressure)
I'm kinda having trouble choosing just one thing since there are a lot of things I'd like to do. I think I might try to be an animator since everyone in my family has been telling me since I was a kid I have real talent in artistic things, and I am pretty good I think, so it might be worth a shot. However I was just wondering what some of you guys might do for a living and if you enjoy it, if you'd change it, whatever! Picking a job is kinda a necessity for everyone, eh?
