I was not a fat child, very skinny in fact did not gain weight until about 7 years ago after I got married.

Same here... about 3 years ago... I've always been thin (even after having kids) .... Seems I turned 40 gained weight and am having a REALLY hard time getting it gone this time!

Normal weight as a child, was very active and sporty. I put on my weight when I went to high school, got a part time job and discovered sweets and chocolate (we didn't eat much of those when I was growing up as our parents wanted us to be healthy).
  • Yep... I sure was. I remember at 9 wearing a size 14 ladies when my mom took me shopping for jeans. LOL... that sucked!

I was a bit overweight, but not that much. I always considered myself average, but I was definitely the most slender in my family.

I was overweight but not badly. The only ones I got teased by were a few "mean girls" and my abusive (in every way) step-mother. I remember I was about 8 when we were going to the pool one summer. I had a 2 piece on (that SHE had bought mind you, I didn't get to pick out ANY of my own clothes until I was 14 and no longer lived under her roof) and she told me I was "ridiculously fat and need to go on a diet. No one should have to suffer seeing you in that swimsuit". I ran away when I was 14 and never returned. (broken family for those wondering)

I was never overweight when I was a child. The only reason why I'm overweight now is because of an injury that stopped me from being so active. Now, I need to get back to that. It's not easy! >.>

    Yes and no.

I was a BIG child. Tall, big boned... with a bit of baby fat. I wasn't FAT but I wasn't tiny either. But I felt fat. From as far back as first grade I felt like I was HUGE. Mostly because of my height. I was so much taller then everyone else and it made me feel like I was big.

I've felt fat my entire life, even though I have been skinny (as an adult until five years ago I was skinny).

I was a skinny kid until I was about 13, then started gaining weight.
  • Jeez yes I was a fat kid, my tee ball and flag football pics were not flattering.
  • At 191lbs I weigh less now than I did in middle/high school. I can't even remember the last time I wore a size 14 (which is the size pants I am wearing today). I think it was probably around 5th or 6th grade. It makes me sad to think about it really. I wish I could go back there and tell that little girl to put down the potatoe chips and go outside and play, but I can't. The only thing I can do now is continue this journey I have begun and live a long healthy life for me and for her :)

Yep.. I was normal weight up until about kindergarten, discovered food, and my weight just piled on from there. Some memories include: being a size 12 in 6th grade, and topping 200 lbs (204 to be exact) by 8th grade. I started playing sports in high school, which got my weight out of the 200s and into the 180s IIRC, but once I went to college it ballooned up to 235, which was my breaking point. I joined MFP around that time and started logging.

At 166, this is the lowest weight I've been pretty much since middle school. I'm curious at what age my goal weight of 135-140 corresponds with now :)

Always a chubby "bigger" girl! I actually wore my girl guide uniform for Halloween a couple years ago, it fit better than it did when I was 11....just a little shorter! lol

Nope. I was dead average until maybe around senior year of high school, even just around 150 then. Then I gained 50 in college  But now I'm only 6 lbs away from being 150 again, hoping to get to 135!
  • Yes ! Chubby child, fat teenager, and young adult. I did not lose weight until I was 26 years old.

Nope I was very skinny as a child......I didn't start putting on weight until after I had my 2nd child then I lost it and put it back on with my 3rd child and have not been able to keep it off.
  • I was actually very skinny as a kid. I don't really know why, i ate twice then what i do now. But maybe its because i was more active? I lived in a small town (but it was big, you had to drive through the country to get to anything worth while) and if i wanted to do anything fun i had to walk, or ride my bike. And fun stuff was always miles away. When i got older, and went through puberty, i got lazier, and fun stuff just so happened to be on the internet.

But i also blame my being brought up. As a poor child i only get fruits and vegetables in a can, and we usually ate instant potatoes, hamburger, and hamburger helper, and other stuff you could buy for like 99 cents. This was the case for my life until i got my own job, moved out, and married my husband.

I feel that if i had grown up with money, i could have been skinnier. I loved fresh broccoli, fresh fruits, healthy variety of food, but the only time i got them was around my birthday, or maybe once or twice a year. It was just too expensive for my family. Now that i'm older, i'm trying to get myself out ofthe habbits i formed as a kid. Although those habbits were brought on by lack of money, i'm no longer hard on cash. I do buy vegetables and fruits, and try to eat healthier. But the biggest difference is that now i don't have anywhere fun to go. I moved from the country into the city. I had rivers, parks, mountains to clime, everything. Now all i have is department stores, movies, and casinos. All those things that are lazy, and usually require driving.

I was a skinny child until 3rd grade (who knows what set it off - i got glasses, my grandpa got cancer, we got atari, etc). Everything went to crap then and I finally got fit after graduating high school - just in time to get pregnant.

I've been trying to fight genetics and years of bad choices but defintely hard work.:grumble:

    I was born fat.

Weighed 13lbs at birth. I remember stepping on the scale in 6th grade and weighing 98lbs (at just over five feet back then). By today's standards--that's not bad...but in the 70's I was chubby. By the time I was a senior in high school I weighed 148 (at 5' 7.5) Didn't have too many boyfriends in high school, because I was always the girl who "would be pretty IF i lost weight..."

So, even if I wasn't techically obese...I always felt fat and hated myself for it. It's taken me a whole lotta time to not see myself as just a fat girl.

Yep I was! I was 160-170 pounds from age 11 (fully grown) til 22. After I moved away from all family and started work I lost 50 pounds in 6 months. I've slowly put back 40 pounds since diagnosed with hypothyroid a few years ago and trying to fight it off. Sigh.

i was a fat child. i always wore "husky" jeans. my mom use to try and down play it by saying, oh you are just big boned, or you must wear a popular size cause i cant find them anywhere. that was code for the store doesn't have your size.

unfortunately i still wear a "popular size." and have to usually order my pants online. Im working on that though. im 6'5" tall and weigh just over 300 lbs. wow.

I was always a tall child and always a little on the husky side. i really out grew my bones several years ago once i moved out and started dating long term. now im on the edge of marriage and im determined to get fit.
  • When my mother went to the "nursery" in the hospital to get me a couple of nurses were looking at the babies. What one of them said to the other made my mom very upset. It was " Oh look, a square baby." They were looking at me.
I was never anything but chunky and then downright fat.

I wasn't a fat kid, but definitely a "stocky" kid. I looked like I could beat up the other little girls..
Around 11-13 I was thin, and then chubby from like Grade 9 on. I had a slim phase at 16, living elsewhere and eating better. That's it! Now I'm chubby.

I definitely was. I remember my mom having to shop in the Pretty Plus section that they had in Sears, and I was very young then.

I remember the Pretty Plus section!! I hated that. That is part of the reason why I now find it so weird to shop in the "normal" sections of stores. This is the first time I can remember not needing to go to plus sections.

I was a chubby kid. Started with the 6x girls and husky boys jeans. I was never teased as the fat kid; there were other kids fatter than me. I've always been on the high end of the weight scale and spent 30+ years listening to doctors tell me to lose some weight (and never offering any help).

As far back as I can remember I was overweight. I can remember being 120+ pounds in 5th grade.
