Do you know what they call the doctor that get's D's in all his classes and just barely passes by the skin of their teeth and knows practically nothing???,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Doctor" just like all the rest of them. Your doctor is an idiot and you should run, not walk, to the nearest dietician/nutritionist. Most doctors, especially those that graduated more than 15-20 years ago, have little or no training in nutrition or weight loss. Please, PLEASE go somewhere else before your health suffers from some other deviant concept this so called doctor purveys as truth.0

WELLLLL ... I am a gastric bypass patient and the doctor is absolutely correct. When I first had the surgery I existed on about 500 to 750 calories a day ... on a good day, if I didn't throw it up. Plus not all of what stayed down was being absorbed. That's what the gastric bypass is all about ... restricting calories and malabsorption (in the early stages). Of course I gained back some of my weight, but I have now re-lost that weight and am back to my lowest weight after the bypass ... and of course my bypass 'tool' has helped me. Losing weight is about restricting calories ... exercise will HELP, absoutely, but you don't get skinny exercising ... you must force your body to access the fat cells, break them down and utilize the fat for energy. True, your body doesn't like it when you don't feed it enough, but the extremely low calorie diet does work. I don't advise everyone to do it (I don't advise ANYONE to do ANYTHING LOL) ... only your doctor should do that. But obesity carries it's own serious health risks and to get that weight off and get off meds as soon as possible is what the extremely low calorie diet is all about. As for rapidly regaining weight ... that didn't happen to me, it was gradual over a period of years, and I could have stopped it if I had tried. It was my fault, not the diet nor the surgery. If I had worked my pouch (tool) correctly, I would have continued to lose weight back then and not regained the weight ... that is what I am doing now and will continue to do until I reach my original goal weight!
I do totally disagree with the number of calories she said you were burning with your exercise ... had to be off. *kitten* obviously never Zumba'ed lol.0 -
I'd say it's time to drop the doctor! Get a new one!
Yep!0 -
i had 750 cals for breakfast... i'm not even kidding.
i don't think that's healthy.
IMO you should get advice from a NUTRITIONIST/DIETITIAN...not your doctor.
I was thinking the exact same thing before I read this. Sounds like you should look for a new doctor too. NEVER heard of a doctor poo poo-ing exercise!!!0 -
No adult be having less than 800 calories a day! I'd get a second opinion from another doctor.0

pssst You should get a new doctor0

Doctors put people on the HCG diet, tell them to eat 500 cals a day, and not to work out....
I personally don't think they are qualified to tell you much of anything about nutrition. It is like asking a foot doctor about gastrointestinal issues....he isn't gonna know much lol
I also have PCOS and I can tell you that every doctor, PCOS site, anything PCOS has said low carb (more specifically low GI foods) are the best approach for women with PCOS. You can eat carbs, but you just have to pick the right ones, avoid "white" carbs, and sugar. You should pretty much be eating similar to a diabetic because women with PCOS are pre disposed to diabetes. You should check out some of the PCOS groups on here, there is a lot of good info and a good place to get ideas for other ladies with the same issues, there are a lot of us!!
Good luck to you!0 -

Well, I am currently in hospital being fasted for various tests!!
I have been told by various doctors and consultants that I should be eating 800 cals or a maximum of 1000 cals per day! But eat quality food and not empty calories!
I am 5'2" and am being tested for metabolic syndromes! So maybe on occasion the advice doctors give is correct!!0
