I actually met my boyfriend of 2 years on a dating site! I didn't know it was a dating site when I signed up to it though lol xD While there may be some weirdo's, or even people who take other's profile pictures for their own, there are gems out there :) See my boyfriend lives in a big city and never really liked the way people treated him there (he has mild Aspergers Syndrome which is a form of Autism, dyslexia and depression), but since I come from a small rural place I was use to getting to know someone before judging them. We talked for 2 weeks before he told me he loved me, which threw me off lol. I still didn't let him down after he told me about his obstacles through life and well his charm won me over in the end, because about 3 months after he told me he loved me we started dating. My suggestion is if someone is going to try the internet dating thing, make sure to go on webcam or Skype before hand, that way you can see the real them and check out their house xD lol! Someones living environment tells you a lot about what they're like :P

I was looking at meetup.com........ luckily... I did find a video gamer group but I think I am going to feel kind fo weird being the only female professional going to meetups to play League of Legends.

Like most of you 20 somethings...I work long hours during the week and enjoy sizing the most out of my weekends. A large majority of my age group spends gratuitous amounts of time and money in bars/clubs/lounges...and while that was fun for the first year or so...The appeal has faded to a 'special occasion/celebration only' sort of status.

So that leads me to my question...Where are other fun places to mix it up with opposite sex who share similar lifestyle preferences?

MeetMe - > free, fun, definately hook up site....

I felt the same way. I actually ended up meeting my husband on Match.com I heard they now offer activities per age group/interest which they didn't when he and I were on there. Maybe take a couple classes if you can? Something that interests you. Like I love cooking, and I took a few of those. Met a couple friends that way.

Cooking classes! That's a great idea..I love to cook! I always thought those sorts of classes would be more suited towards the 30+ crowd.

WTF is wrong with the 30+ crowd!!!! :explode:

I was never part of the bar scene haha. My friends are all older and I didn't touch alcohol till I was 21 so I totally missed it. I was never interested, I had an annoying holier than thou attitude towards drinking until the past year or so.

I met my boyfriend at the gym actually. Well, I worked the front desk there and people talked to me all the time but hey, it works.
I like all the online suggestions. They do have a lot of cool things now, like group meetings, that are safter and more fun. It seems like even if you don't hit it off with one person, it's not a total loss of money or time.

I was in the mid 20s when I started taking them. I'm in my early 30s now. Concerts too were a great place too. You already had music in common. You could strike up a conversation inbetween bands/sets.

You could look for social groups in your area through Meetup.com. Basically, it's a place where people form groups based on activities. In my area I found outdoorsy type groups, singles groups, women social groups, vegan groups, environmental groups, cooking groups...just about any type of group that exists. Heck, there are even UFO groups and conspiracy groups. Usually the groups are run by individuals who were looking for new friends and people just join and if they love it, they pay a tiny due and go to all of the activities. :)

    1. Work the friend of friend network. Tell every acquaintance or friend that you are single and ask for a referral for a fix up. The 2 or 3 degrees of separation principle is where you are going to find your best matches.
    2. Common hobbies.
    3. Exercise classes tend to skew more female than male

I'm gonna second the Meetup.com suggestion. Literally innumerable options there; you can choose whatever is interesting to you or try something totally new, you can choose a bigger group or a smaller group, and there isn't a cost, so it's win-win-win.

^^ yep. I met my husband in a meetup group.

I think the internet is the best way to meet women, but it's time consuming. I did internet dating for 3 months. I went on at least one date a week (usually just coffee), but sometimes up to four. I went on about 30 first dates, which led maybe 8 second dates, 4 flings. One turned out to be my other half, the love of my life, and we're getting married in a couple weeks.
