Today the "Club Director" asked me not to let the weight down so fast when deadlifting.
"Could you let the weight down slower; you're rattling the building."
"I can't control that much weight on the way down."
"Then I would ask you not to do so much weight."
"Then I'll have to cancel my membership."
"I'm sorry you feel that way." *Club Director walks away.

I may get flamed for this, but I agree with the Club Director on this one.
If you can't control the weights, you shouldn't be lifting so heavy.0 -

Apparently you don't know about deadlifting or haven't deadlifted 315-365 lbs.0 -
I don't know anything about deadlifting, but if that's the gym's policy and you don't want to follow it then yeah, go find a new gym.0

uh, yeah, you don't do heavy deads I take it...
totally agree FOW, that would send my packing. I work out at Gold's so it's pretty meathead friendly though.
Does your gym even have a set of bumper plates and a platform? Mine doesn't. The plates at my gym rattle like crazy on my squats too, even when collared.0 -
No, no bumper plates and no platform. The plates there are annoying as hell Ivanko vinyl-ish coated type plates that are hard as hell to pull off the bars. Also the free weight area is on the second floor, so that is of course problematic.0

See my and noobs posts about how you must not know about deadlifting. To educate you both and anyone else, you are absolutely not supposed to fully control the weight on the way down for heavy deadlifts because it can lead to injury.0 -
OP you should have slammed the weight on his feet turned around and walked out like a boss0

I totally would have if I hadn't been too busy sitting hunched over on a bench panting. Honest...0 -

So I've heard
Hard to tell in that guf but I am thinking it is supposed to be that he is straight dropping it to the floor?0 -
I keep my hands on the bar but it crashes.0

I agree as well. That is distracting and annoying as hell.0 -
Why not just ask if deadlifting is not allowed? If it is, then ask for more of those rubber mats/pad to drop the weights on...
I'll be honest I don't deadlift but I understand the concept certainly well. So, if they can't accommodate you for such a simple basic technique- then by all means leave.0 -

O noes, your delicate ears have heard the sound of weight training equipment being used.
There is no strict policy or anything there. It is not a chain. AFAIK no one else there deadlifts that much weight even though it is really not that much. It is jsut rare for anyone to deadlift or squat there, and more rare for anyone to do either of them properly or with a lot of weight.0
