Thanksgiving Strategy?

How do you plan on eating this Thursday? Careful as ever? Rules out the window? Somewhere in the middle? Happy Holidays!

Goal - Eat entire turkey
Goal 2 - Follow it up with pie.
Also realize, it's 1 day. The diet break alone can be a huge benefit to your overall weight loss and sanity.0 -
Eat everything in sight.0

1. Avoid a full out 10,000 binge on everything day
2. Try to enjoy the food/friends/family without over stressing the calories for a day.0 -
I'll try to maintain portion control...but I won't feel bad if I go over cals.0

You gotta watch, if you go in without a plan you're doomed to failure.
Now I love a good bread dish, but you'll fill up fast. So you wanna shove some turkey into the roll and dunk that bad boy in gravy. That's what you do with your right hand. While that's going on make sure your left hand is combining stuffing and mashed potatoes on the fork so it's at the ready.
And don't look me in the eyes.0 -
Thanksgiving is one of the few days where I let myself eat pretty much whatever I want (within reason...I'm not going to eat myself sick) because I enjoy being with my family and having a good time and enjoying the good food that everybody helped to cook. I don't feel guilty for it.
However! I am going to run a Turkey Trot 5k that morning to give myself some extra calories! :laugh:0 -
It's 2 days out of the year, and there's way too much good food around for me to get too worked up about it.
I'll train in the morning, eat at mid day, eat again mid afternoon, take a nap, then probably eat again in the evening. Then I'll sleep, get up and lift, then have leftovers, then probably more leftovers.0 -
Stuff my frikkin pie hole. End of.0

I am far less concerned about what I'm eating on Thursday and Saturday (which are my two Thanksgiving dinners) than I am about what I'm eating on Friday/Monday and beyond. I now how hard it is for me to splurge for ONE DAY (or in this case two) without it turning into a week or month long binge. I am making specific plans for Friday and Monday and sticking to them.0

Since I'm cooking most of it, my contributions will be mainly healthier versions (I.e. less butter and fats). We always start out with the raw veggies/dip and olives, pickles, etc. But yeah, turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes with brown sugar, and pumpkin pie are on the list! Will keep recording food intake that day, even if it takes forever!!0

I'm going to log my calories for that day too.So that I won't get carried away and the community center where we have our dinner has a walking track.So I plan to use it afterwards:)0

My trainer said it's what you eat from January to Christmas, not Christmas to January that counts.
It may not address Thanksgiving specifically, but the point being that you can celebrate on holidays as long as your overall diet is done well throughout the whole year.0 -

I have always heard "People shouldn't be so worried about what they eat between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They should worry about what they are eating between Christmas and Thanksgiving."0 -
Not sure. Will probably get my sprints in Wednesday evening. Just 25 minutes on the treatmill consisting of 2 1/2 minutes of full speed (30 seconds at a time) - that'll rev up my body and it will be ready to take in some serious nutrition on Turkey Day.
Will just keep my typical no grain/flour/bread/sugar, high animal fat day - hopefully there will be some actual vegetables (corn is not a vegetable) and then I will sit down and enjoy a piece of Paleo Kick-A** Key Lime Pie (http://stevepaleo.blogspot.com/) with a Paleo Honey Graham Cracker Crust (www.againstallgrain.com) - which I will be making. Maybe even have two slices...
Of course, if I want sweet potato I'll have to bring my own and bake it since the casserole ruins the sweet potatoes.
But the day will really be no different than any other day.0 -
I plan on eating like I do every other day now, reasonable. I realize it is only one day, but it is more about the frame of mind for me. The binging and not worrying about what I ate is what got me here. I intend to try to stay within my calorie goal and exercise,just like any other day. For me, this is about being healthy, and shoving every piece of food I can find into my body is not healthy. I also know that if I eat badly I will feel guilty, and physically feel awful. I don't think for me that it is healthy for me to look at it as a day to pig out. I try to look at every day now as a chance to make myself healthier.0
