I am so glad I saw this post. I too am 5'7 and started out at about the same weight 12 wks ago. I've been averaging about 1/2 lb per wk by slightly modifying my diet and strength training. If I keep it up (tweaking along the way as needed0 after a year I figure maybe i'd be down about 24 lbs give or take. Your story motivates me, 23 pounds sound good to me! Do I want more? Yes, but I'd rather lose 23 comfortably than 40 uncomfortably-and when i say that I speak of my own situation specifically. That is not to say that anyone losing 60 lbs in a year is uncomfortable (not at all). Anyway, Congratulations, you look fabulous! I'm so glad you posted this.
Yeah, slow and steady is definitely the way to go. And I seem to be one of those people that stays the same for 2-3 weeks then drops 1-1.5 lbs all at once, then stays the same for another 2-3 weeks. It's just the way my body works I guess, So I just log when I have a loss but don't worry so much about reaching a specific number each week.0 -
Great story and you are looking great!0

u look GREAT! u should be more proud of yourself! i wish i wouldve ran accross your story BEFORE i ate my chocolate covered raisins...alll 340calories of tehm! sigh at least the bag is gone now. but anyways, u look amazing! its not how much uve lost, but what u have gaines! a gread lookin body!0

You look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! So what if you only lost 23? Its better then not losing at all. Not everyone (including myself) can lose 100lbs in a year. I started losing when i was pregnant (I was 243 May 2011, dropped down to 225 the next month, then 220, hoovered, gave birth, went to 204 by Jan 2012, they think its because i was active) and decided to continue losing once i had clearance. I have lost an additional 28lbs as of right now, and I am ok with that (I will be here a year in Feb), and i know that it takes me longer to lose (I can gain like no one's business, 8bs in 5 months, its disturbing to me :noway: ) Don't discount your progress you look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bigsmile:0

You are so gorgeous , and you have every reason to be proud of your achievements. I would be thrilled to look like you! Also, your story is a great encouragement to me -- no setbacks are reason to give up on your goals!0

The Lindt Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt is my nemesis. But I still leave room for a few squares every now and then0 -
A loss is a loss, doesn't have to be dramatic bit important to you. It's something you acvomplished on your own; no one else. Congrats on your success!!! Losing weight is hard regardless of the amount!0

This may sound off the wall, but has the naturopath looked into your thyroid, or hashimotos disease? Hashimotos is a form of anti bodies issue in the body. I've got thyroid issues myself so I understand how hard all of it is. I delt with hives earlier this year, would wake iup with my eyes swollen shut, it's awful feeling. also, have you tried cuttin out gluten, sorry if I missed that you did.0

congratulations!
your resilience and determination is admirable!

I think you have done spectacularly esp given the problem. I feel your pain - as a teenager I had urticaria /dermatographia and suffered thru many sleepless nights and days. Never did pin down a cause to that or the swollen foot/ankle I had that they also figured was auto-immune related. Both pretty much resolved by my 20s.
Anyway, congrats and keep up the good work and don't let a Dr. poo-poo something that helps0 -

I'm on thyroid supplements as it's a little low, but nothing serious. I did cut out gluten in the beginning of the year but just recently starting eating it here and there since it didn't really make much of a difference ( i still try to avoid it for the most part though ) I have an appointment to go discuss my blood test results with the specialist in January. Everything came back normal except my ANA test came back positive which could mean a million different things, so I'll have to wait and see.0 -

I'm glad yours went away! It's almost worse when they tell you it's auto-immune because theres nothing you can do to make it go away other than wait.
I'm still seeing both the regular doctor and my naturopath. Can't hurt to try different things!0 -
Hives are awful but you have managed to stick with the program and transform youself despite them! Congratulations, you look awesome!0
-
I also started getting hives after getting serious about my weight loss, they really put a damper on things!! I sent you a friend request congrats on your success!0

As Billy Crystal would say . . . " You look marveeeeeee-lous" ! WTG .0

Fantastic Job! You look great. I'll be so happy to lose that amount in one year -- I just recently started...0
-
You look AMAZING!!! I lost about 25lbs in a year and always felt like...why can't I hit those huge numbers like some?!? But your story is a reminder that each of us is different and just how great we can look in just a year's time! CONGRATS!! And yes...I LOVE strength training too!!!0
-
23lbs is a huge accomplishment and you should be proud! You look great and congrats on the success! Keep up the great work!0

23 lbs is fabulous!!! And you look fantastic!!:flowerforyou:0

You look absolutely amazing!! And the fact that you've dealt with health problems at the same time is just incredible, you have such a great attitude!
Congratulations on all you've achieved, you're awesome!0 -
You look fantastic and did it all when many people would have thrown in the towel. Dont belittle this by saying 'only' I hope your sutustion improves and you get some relief soon.0
-
Thanks again everyone.
I think the "only" comes in because I was really hoping to be down the whole 35lbs by now. I really thought a year was plenty of time for 35lbs. But now I'm learning that, realistically for me, it might take me the whole next year to lose the last 13. I've always thought I was SOOOOOO heavy. But right now i'm only a few lbs over what's healthy for my height, so I know it's going to take even more time and effort to get these 13 off.0 -
Gee you have had a hard year! Congratulations on your weight loss, you look great!0
-
23 lbs is not easy to do! Congratulations! I think it's awesome and you look great!0
-
You look great!!!0

Twenty-three pounds is a big deal! Please don't downplay your amazing achievements! :flowerforyou:
I also wanted to weigh in because I have suffered from dermographism in the past and understand how awful it is...
Congrats on your success!0 -
You look awesome!! Super awesome job! I know I probably would have given up had the hives set in for me....it would have been my excuse! But you didn't give up which is the most inspiring part of your story to me0
-
What an inspiration! I admire your perseverance. GREAT JOB!!!!0

I can relate so much to your weight loss story. I started trying to lose weight in December of last year and I'm currently down 22lbs. I get so frustrated with myself that I haven't lost more (I have quite a bit more to go than you). Incidentally I also have an autoimmune related skin disease, I've never tested for food allergies though.
Anyway thank you so much for sharing your story, you look wonderful! :flowerforyou:0
