No. They're both silly labels used by men to tag (relatively) older women who dare to project any kind of sexual identity.

Its funny that you say this because while I am almost positive that these terms were made by guys (probably high school kids), these terms are used most often by the ladies now who WANT to be drooled by younger men. Don't believe me, go search the forums and you will see how many ladies here have the goal set out to be "called a MILF" by my sons friends etc.

Women refer to themselves as Cougars too.. :) Men use it in a derogatory sense but women generally use it in a empowering fun kinda way . So it depends on the individual really..it can be taken either way.

I applaud women who are open with their sexuality and confident to get out there..and go for what they want.

Okay, definitely going for milf...I don't think I could date someone ten (or more...yikes!) years younger than me.:noway:

I could be very wrong but can't you just go for ... being healthy and fit rather than labeling yourself with such names?

I would assume that since she is asking this question then labeling herself one or the other would make her feel better. Considering it is what she wants to for herself, who are you to judge? If she wants to be a MILF in order to make herself happy and motivate herself then so be it!

So quick to judge me when I didn't judged at all. Read my other replies good sir.

I do applaud you for doing the right thing though and speaking up. That was actually kinda cool (even though you presumed incorrectly)

What's the difference? Class, Cougars are generally less classy.

    lolwut?

Because someone happens to date someone younger, they are less classy? Gotta love that logic
It was a joke, see the smiley at the end.

    GREAT logic.

Women: "I am totally a cougar and like to sleep with younger men". This is fine and empowering

Men: "I like cougars and like to sleep with them". This is derogatory.

    Gotcha!

I think of a cougar as an older woman who tries to seduce younger men. A milf is a mom who is insanely hot but isn't intentionally trying to get attention.

See, I started this thing called "Operation M.I.L.F" for myself...because I want to be so hot, I don't need to TRY and get attention-it just would happen, teehee. (Ha, right now I try not to get ANY attention at all, avoid pictures, form fitting clothing, heck, make up and hair styling majority of the time lately) lol. Not that I need to get attention anyways...I have my boyfriend/father of our baby. BUT, I'd like to know I am milfy...even for myself and him. Who doesn't see a beautiful and smokin' hot mom and think "Man, she looks great!" ?! I want to KNOW that for myself.

    :)

OP: You are a hottie. :) You got this. MILF it up!!!

btw-add on to my above, after reading some of the comments...I had my baby earlier this year, and don't consider myself old. (27) i mean, I am not a young spring chicken any more or anything (haha, my grandma's words-see what I did there?) BUT, I am not old...and my friend who had her oldest kid at the age of 16 and her youngest at the age of 27 is a hottie and a lot of guys would consider her a MILF. She isn't "old" and she has 3 kids...

I don't feel MILF has age associated with it...at least not anymore. Maybe back when it was first out due to American Pie

    just my 2 c :)

I'm of two minds. Why use a label that was intended to render women as objects by/and for the porn industry? The general use of MILF comes from that. There is a derogatory root to this term.
If you are taking possession and really "owning" the sexuality behind this slang that seems fantastic. But I'd be reserved about it, after all, it is literally and initially intended qualification from the view of a (young) man; "mother I'd like ...". I'd some how think that "insanely hot" is less ... derogatory.
Plus think of the logistics - one can be MILF material - but being a MILF literally means a lot of self-pleasure (nttawwt!).
Pedantics aside, I often wince when I hear terms like "b!tch", "slut" used for self description (outside the bedroom) and don't see this as THAT much different. My litmus test might be what I would accept at my dinner table.
On the other hand, use what you want, burn down social mores on the bonfires of coarse and common language. It's a living thing and I need a coffee.

    Edit: stupid autocorrect.

While I certainly had no intention of representing the derogatory connotation of either word, I definitely aspire to take ownership of the more positive aspects of the definition as delineated in your response...and while I'll establish a goal of "insanely hot," I'm sure the final result may be more in my mind than in the eye of the beholder. I agree, "coarse and common" was certainly not my intention as my endeavor is the ultimate portrayal of classy, jaunty, and just a tad bit sassy!

@ OP: MILF's have more fun
  • Cougar is an older woman who likes to play with men 10 plus years younger than herself. A MILF is simple a mom who still looks really good. MILFs may or may not desire younger men, but they desire HER. Cougars don't necessarily have to be moms
Well I do like my women a little bit older ;)

Great subject to discuss on a Monday! How about a saber tooth.... Slightly older than the cougar but just as dangerous to young men. :0)

That's bordering dangerously close to a black widow...
