Am I the only one who feels the pressure to buy expensive gifts even though I really dont want to? I feel that Christmas has come down to commercialism. I'm thinking of just avoiding it altogether this year and not make the several hundred mile trip to visit the family.0

It's Merry Christmas..it's always been Merry Christmas.
But prior to it becoming Christmas, it was a pagan holiday...
"Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. "
So historically speaking, Merry Christmas was not the original. Deal with it.
^^^For Reals. I'm sick of seeing this ridiculous "War on Christmas"..."Put Christ back in Christmas" bs on FB. I don't celebrate, and my mom wasn't too pleased when my kids said Happy Winter Solstice/Saturnalia and not Merry Christmas to her when she talked about it the other day.
It has NOT always been christmas. Christmas is the christians high-jacked version of Saturnalia/Winter Solstice in hopes of having the Romans conform to Christianity and leave Paganism behind under Constantine.
"In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians"0 -

Well, I'm mainly pissed off that all my efforts to get 'Bacon Day' established as a national holiday have gone overlooked. So we're all pissed about something.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Bacon_Day--International Bacon Day or Bacon Day is an unofficial observance held on the Saturday before Labor Day in the United States. (Labor Day is traditionally the first Monday of September). Bacon day celebrations typically include social gatherings during which participants create and consume dishes containing bacon, including bacon-themed breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and drinks.0 -
