I agree with alot of the other posts here, cheese is a neccessity for me. I love cheese, but I buy the individually wrapped light string cheese or the baby bell cheese. The other cheese I really like is the light laughing cow cheese wedges. They are individually wrapped and I believe only 35 calories a wedge. Now that cheese is creamy, so you couldn't eat that just by itself, ok I guess you could, but on toast or crackers it great.0

I cannot eat milk products now - but when I could, I added a lot of calories from cheese. Here in the US, in many restaurants, cheese is added to so many things too.0

I eat about an ounce worth of cheese per day on average. It's not a lot but it's very satisfying for me. However, some days I don't have any. I either eat Kraft or Bordon regular, or the Laughing Cow light wedges.0

Cutting back is probably necessary if you are going to keep calories in check, but if you are going to include cheese in your diet I find it helps to choose sharp or strong tasting ones (old cheddar, real parmigiana reggiano, Gorgonzola, etc.) especially in cooking where a little will go a long way to flavour the food. Also, as someone said, get a digital scale a weigh it. An ounce, or 30g, depending on your measuring system, is probably more than you think.
I'd stay away from the processed stuff, too...but that's just me.0 -
Giving up cheese will be one of the best dietary decisions you have ever made. It does NOTHING positive for you, but it's physically addictive, fattening, cancer promoting, and causes constipation. There is no reason to ever eat it.
WTF?! I lose weight and always have eating cheese...I just don't eat loads of it all the time...cottage cheese is a fave...lotsa protein in there...everything in moderation, I know it is cliche, but it is something I stand by now...0 -
as long as it fits in to your callories eat i dont see a problem cheese milk wont make you FAT unless it goes over your callories0

Ohhhhh, I know how you feel, I love my cheese too. Instead of giving it up completely I chose the to only have my favourite kind, which happens to be feta. I have a little bit each day and it helps satisfy my cheese craving and also gives a little salty tang to my soup or salad.
And now when I eat out, having even a little bit of goat cheese feels like such a treat!0 -
I'd just like to offer a counter point to all those never give up cheese comments...I thought I could never give up cheese, that I "just loved it too much." Then I went a couple of months without it, now I don't even like it anymore. My case may be different from yours though, since I wanted to give up cheese for ethical reasons--none the less, I can honestly say, I don't miss it, and when I last had a bite about 6 months ago, I found it gross.

Not a problem here - there are very few French cheeses I like, and it's practically impossible to buy English cheese in this part of France. German, Dutch, Austrian, Italian - yes - but no English, so no cheddar and, for me, there is nothing like a well matured English cheddar.
I agree that nothing beats a good aged cheddar. I buy various artisanal cheeses for my husband, who lived in Paris for several years and loves cheese. These are a couple of good, albeit pricey, types that are on the sharp side:

i love cheese and have also had to cut down a bit, but do still include it in my diet. I love cave-aged gruyere, roquefort and others. I have learnt to use the scales and have 1-2 oz max. I still love it but have learnt to put the block back in the fridge...0

I was merely clarifying a point made by someone else. I also stated that including insects in US cheese production is likely to be a rare practice. I buy cheese for my family. Perhaps you are reading too much into what I said.0 -

Cheese is gross. Once you stop eating it, you'll realize how disgusting it is. It just adds zero value to anything. It's a horrible food product. Its just a big giant glob of fat. Why would you put into your body that which you are trying to get rid of?

Sorry, wrong. I personally love cheese, but it is not healthy, so don't delude yourself into thinking that it is. Cheese is the most prevalent source of dairy fat and, therefore, the primary source of exposure to dioxin which even the EPA admits is the primary cause of Kant types of cancer (Charnley, et al. Human Exposure to Dioxins from Food. 1999 - 2002. Food Chem Toxicol. 2005. May; 43(5): 657-660.). Cheese is a powerful inducer of acid load, which increases calcium loss, so that blows away arguments for eating cheese to boost your intake of calcium. Cheese has 10 times more saturated fat as a chicken breast. Even low fat cheese is a very high fat food.
So, wait, you think fat is bad for you, I see where the disparity lies here.
Think what you like, but saturated fat is not the healthiest fat. I eat fats, fats are important. But cheese has a very high level of saturated ft. Not hard to look up the medical studies. Fats do not require much work for the body in terms of "digestion"; they will never be negative calorie foods!0 -

I buy artisanal cheeses which cost around $30.00/lb. I can tell you that spending that amount of $$$ on cheese makes you think twice about eating it like Cheez Whiz. That's one way to approach portion-control.0

Misinformation, indeed. Dietary fat DOES equal body fat. The body coverts food fat into body fat quickly and easily, 100 calories of ingested fat can be easily converted to 97 calories of body fat. Basic human biology, people. Though I still love and eat cheese just more carefully.0
