Why do people lose weight for the wrong reasons?

If appearance is your only concern in losing weight, you'll most likely end up a statistic who regains the weight in a year (or 5) and then some.
How is that true? This is one of the stupidest things I've read on here in a while... It seems your only reason for this post is to piss people off or offend them. Who are you to judge their reasons for losing weight?0 -
Um. I don't hate on "sluts" at a bar, and this is totally unrelated to that. My point is that there are wrong reasons to want to lose weight if it's not a long-term lifestyle change. Doing it for a short-term goal and that ALONE is not reasonable.
I am losing weight for looks, but guess what, I want to LOOK GOOD for the REST of my LIFE! No short term goal there.0 -
I think that if something else motivates you...then motivation is motivation. Whatever it is that makes you wanna get out there and make a change, good!0
-
I'm thinking about those people who think they need to drop pounds just to fit in a smaller sized wedding dress or they do it for anybody other than themselves. Seems stupid and self-defeating, you should lose weight just for yourself and to make a lifestyle change. Thoughts?
Who are you or anyone else to judge what is right or wrong for someone? Each to their own.0 -
I want to look good naked and be able to be held upside down during sex.
And if those reasons are wrong, I don't want to be right.
That's TOTALLY why I wanted to be able to do this!!!

<-- does minute handstands underwater.
OP - I'm sure your neighbor is a very nice person. If she invited you to her wedding, well, what a waste that was. If she didn't <slow clap>.0 -
The reason don't matter if the end result is achieved!0

You are not the boss of me.0

I'm getting skinny to be hot and bang hot chicks.
I've already shot my insides down the drain..0 -
Ok OP, I'll throw you a bone.
When I first started posting on here, I got into a conversation with a male user saying he was eating 800-1000 calories per day, so that he could lose 10-15lbs. for 'fashion week' or something, which was a few months away. He was very upfront about not caring that he was under-eating, and not caring about what happened to his body or weight after he reached his goal for that event. He obviously did not care about his health, or improving it at all.
That is a case in which I would state someone had the WRONG reasons.0 -

Again..... people are confusing wrong reason with improper execution. Why he wanted to do it is NOT WRONG!!! How he went about it, was not the best method, but achieved the results he wanted (maybe/ maybe not)
WHY someone loses weight is valid regardless of the reason.
HOW they do it may lack proper judgement.

Don't get me wrong, I want to look good naked and have hot crazy monkey sex, too. BUT it's not my primary motivation to lose weight. The main goal is to be healthier and commit to a lifestyle change. I couldn't give a #$)# about anything else.
I think losing weight to have sex with a monkey is the WRONG REASON.0 -

I am going to disagree.. i lost weight to look better initially. Once you get to goal (and before) you start to add more reasons- get pregnant, compete in a triathlon, keep the weight off, stay healthy etc.....
You may start losing for one reason, and end up for something totally different....0 -
I don't back down. I stick to what I said, losing weight for a short term goal and not committing to a lifestyle change = failure in the end.
I'm gonna give it to you straight
You're not good at posting
^ This. hahaha0 -
Not sure where this fits into this post directly --when I see 18 year old girls (mostly) post here how much they hate themselves and asking for help, my heart breaks every time i read that. this mama wants to reach through the screen and give them a hug. it doesn't seem like vanity (and that's fine too), but more so from self hate (cultivated by peers)? what do you guys think?? their reasons for losing weight are drastically different than mine and not coming from a place of judgment whatsoever, just makes me sad.
You. I like you.0 -

How is wanting to look good, or setting a goal like a smaller wedding dress the "wrong reason" ? ...0

Shhhh! Don't tell Jillian Michaels she has it all wrong - according to her monologue on 30DS jean shopping and swimsuit shopping motivate her to keep going when workouts get tough!
BUT I do get disappointed when people are successful at losing weight and then immediately revert to their old ways because they have no clue about maintenance or just can't be bothered continuing to put some work in. I feel really sorry for them because I'm certain it's just that they think the weight will magically stay off.0 -

Where's your scientific source for this? Or is this your personal opinion?
Sounds like you're one of those girls who hate on the sluts at the bar too. Don't be that girl.
^ I loooooove your personality. and your hair :'D0 -

Ok fine, the reason in itself of wanting to be a smaller size is not inherently wrong. You got me, you win, all the cookies for you.
But I think that someone who intends from the get-go for their weight loss to be short-term, and to potentially damage their health in the process, is in the wrong. I don't understand why someone would want to yo-yo diet on purpose (outside of bulking/cutting).0 -
I wanted to lose weight to get back into porn. Not acting but actually watching it because I was getting far too lazy.0
-
That wasted 8 minutes of my life.
Quick answer...people do what they want and you don't have to approve?
Yep, that's it!
