Anyone else hate eating out?

As much as I love going out to dinner and such, I have a constant fear of not knowing the (almost) exact amount of calories in my food. I always find myself eating barely anything throughout the day if I know that I'm going out, or exercising way more than I usually do. I know that's bad, but I can't really help it.

Anyone else hate eating out because of this?

Yep, me too. I don't like not having control of how my food is made.

I sooooooo get what everyone is saying. It's starting to scare me too. I think it's the lack of control. For the food prep I mean.

Nope. It's not hard to estimate most "standard" meals... sauces and things can make it hard, but most restaurants have nutrition information either on their website or upon request. If I know it's going to be a big meal, I may save some extra cals for it, get in a bigger workout that day, or just say the hell with it.

If I'm not enjoying myself when I eat, what's the point? Mental health is just as important as physical health... I'm not going to drive myself crazy over analyzing every single calorie.

Additionally... it's 1 meal. If you are focused on long term steady progress (like you should be), 1 meal isn't going to make a difference.

A lot of restaurants have their nutritional values listed on their websites. As a foodie and someone who has plenty of business lunches, I eat at restaurants more often than at home. I've never had an issue with my "diet".

Yeah, I love going out to eat, but I hate eating at places without a nutrition menu! I usually end up getting something boring, like a green salad with grilled chicken breast, cheese and dressing on the side. Boring, but at least I can get close to the calories contained for my log.

plan ahead... especially if you are going to chain place you can get the calorie counts from anything on the menu. if you are going somewhere fancy you wont have to worry about the calories anyway because they usually dont give you enough food to go overboard on

    Fear? First world problems?

I do find it frustrating as you're guessing at best.

To answer you title- heck no.

To answer your post...also no. I guess i don't GO OUT TO EAT (lol!) a whole bunch. And if I do, it's something that I already knwo what the cals are...like a burrito is 500 cals. Nachos is 700 cals. For special holidays (anniversaries and what not) I'll go out to a fancy italian place and I don't fear it.

I dunno. I think i just been consistent long enough that a few high calorie meals here and there don't bug me. Also, weight lifting changes how you think about eating.

I can usually find menu items that fit into my diet plan. What now bothers me about restaurant food is the sodium content. I don't normally focus on the amount of sodium I consume but I am now finding that after eating at a restaurant I retain excess fluid for 3-4 days. That's a lot of salt.

What I hate about eating out is ordering something and it's not really what you wanted and you feel like you could have made it better and cheaper at home. Sometimes it feels like a waste of calories...

We go out most friday nights and almost every sat. night. I do end up getting a salad with chicken (or steak or shrimp) a lot because it's the easiest to figure out. I try to go to chain restaurants when possible, because they usually have their nutritional info on line, or at least in the food database. If not, and I'm really hungry, i'll try to stick to something simple- grilled chicken or salmon, or an egg white and spinach omelet or a sandwhich I can easily enter.
I have been losing weight on the weekends, but my goal is just to not gain. :)

Can't say that this is a problem for me, at all. I love food and I'm not about to let calorie counting take that away from me!

Like eating out. Eating at restaurants is a hassle though if they don't publish nutrition facts.

I don't hate it at all, I really enjoy it most of the time. Sometimes you're just not in the mood though.

I really really love eating out cause I'm lazy but I CAN'T afford to eat out when I'm dieting cause my food choices are more limited. ALso, I hate not being able to count my cals and carbs if the place doesn't provide nutritional information about their food.

When friends suggest eating out I agree only if the place has a salad bar where I can be in control. When I am eating out a lot the scales show it.

I love going out to eat in restaurants!

I usually look at the menu beforehand to plan out what I'm going to eat. I then find the closest thing in MFP to log my calories and move on. I don't stress about it being perfectly correct, I just try to get it as close as I can.

I'm going out to lunch today with my coworkers and I can't wait!

Me too...but for different reasons. I actually enjoy cooking and most of my meals are better than anything I could get eating out. It's pretty rare (even before my diet change) that my wife and I eat out...usually very special occasions at a high end restaurant or if it's just something I can't make very well at home...there are a few things that I simply can't seem to master and it comes out nowhere near as good as I can get out.

When I do eat out, I estimate as well as I can based on the ingredients that I see and throw a little extra in there for butter and what not.
