Welcome to MFP.
Buckle up. New Year's is coming.0 -
i dont celebrate christmas, i celebrate thanksgiving two, now with presents0

Have you ever worked retail or delivered packages/mail to feed your family? Or worked in law-enforcement, search and rescue, or fire? Christmas isn't exactly all snow flakes and Christmas trees for the people who do.
Let me tell you from personal experience that delivering all the crap that people order, til midnight, Christmas eve, in snowy below 0 degree weather, year after year, would make you whine too.
Spending the day in a blizzard searching for some Jack Wagon who went out in the back country without an avalanche beacon sucks the Ho, Ho, Ho right out of you.
Booking people all night Christmas eve for getting drunk and beating up their wives, children, etc really makes you look at the holidays differently.
How about, instead of making a whining thread about whiners you just sit back and enjoy the holidays the way you want and let those who need to vent to get through the season do it.
Ahhh... that felt good. Some old fashion whining about the holidays0 -

Awesome lol
My favorite post of the day, and I've seen some good ones!
I've had some incredibly happy holidays and some profoundly miserable ones. You just have to go with the flow because that, my friends, is how life goes. Savor the good and hope the bad doesn't hang around for too long, and for god's sake, get the hell out of your own way!0 -
At the very least it's a a day or two off of work. Why do people complain about this?
Not for me, but it is double time and a half....Nothing better than 30 hours of pay for 12 hours of work.
Not for me either...but ditto on the pay. And someone has to do it. I work Christmas so the people with small kids can have it off. I miss the days of goodwill and good cheer and Christmas being about friends and family and good times instead of who can spend the most on the coolest stuff. Feed me, make me laugh, Merry Christmas!0 -
"I am not "whining". I am complaining. Do you want to hear "whining"? This is whining! Ooohhhh! This harness is too tight! It's going to chafe! Can't you loosen it?! OH! It hurts and it's so rusty! Why didn't you clean it first?! It's gonna leave a stain, and the wagon's getting heavy! Why do I have to pull it?!"

Tomorrow is Festivus! Let's all be happy!0

Why are you whining about all of the whining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some people have loved ones that have died and have a very hard time dealing with the Holidays!!!!!
Others have no money to buy their kids presents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very true. some years are tougher than others.0 -

I get to work 18 hours on christmas day. 5:30 am til 11:30 pm. No lunch break, no extra overtime/time 1/2 or anything.
I thank the people who make christmas day the busiest business day of the year.0 -
What about whining about people whining about people who whine? Is that bad?0

Hmmm not sure...maybe we need to have some wine to mull that over.
As for those whining about working Christmas day etc...
I worked many a Christmas day/ New Years Eve/ Day and I didn't whine one little bit. I was thankful - double time cash booyah baby! And if you are working Christmas day then it means you have a job. Jobs are good.
The Christmas season can bring it's challenges but it's how you take them and look at them that defines you. I like to be sunny side up.
Cheers :drinker:0 -

I don't think it was so much whining as pointing out that there's a whole other side to the days off and opening presents with your kids.
I live alone and don't have any plans for christmas because my fiancee lives far away. I voluteered so my co workers could enjoy the time with their families. I will get lots of christmas cheer from my regulars and a three day weekend later this week.0 -
Friendly Atheist here who hates the whining about the holidays. I celebrate the holiday as a traditional thing (seeing family I don't get to see that often, giving back to those who I care about, holiday pay at work!!) and I hate the whining as well. The only time that I ***** and moan is at all the traffic on the roads. I HATE slow drivers and tons of traffic. I can't wait for all the shoppers to stay home and get off the road. I keep it to myself though, and I bite my tongue when people play xmas music 24/7. No whining, just silently screaming in my head haha.0

People should count their blessings.Trust me everyone, I understand the holidays bring their own sets of circumstances to everyone and I certainly don't begrudge anyone who is suffering. If anything I think those that have true sadness or challenges tend to be more quiet, while the people I'm most frustrated with seem to create most of their own misery.
There are many of us out there who would give anything to spend a day or be able to buy a gift for our loved ones who are no longer around. Guess I just want them to take a second and be grateful.
What I am thankful for: a roof over my head, healthy food in my fridge, clothes on my back, water that runs from my tap, a job, a spouse that loves me whether I am fat or fit, a family that loves me and my health. Let's gain some perspective and be thankful for the things we have, give respect to those that have lost loved ones and give to the needy this holiday season.0 -
I dread Christmas because I miss my parents and my family. My parents died and my family doesn't get together anymore for Christmas. Everyone's sick of the commercialism. Me too, but that doesn't stop me from feeling melancholy about it. It's the season with the highest suicide rate for a reason.0

Actually, the holidays aren't the season with the highest suicide rate. That would be spring. It turns out that holidays aren't really conducive to having the time and the conditions to decide to off yourself and then follow through with it.
In the meantime, I am spending Christmas blissfully working a normal day in a non-Christian country where I don't have to put up with the perpetual, obnoxious level of cheer. :drinker: Then again, I did get funny looks when the Christmas Song with Alvin and the Chipmunks came on the radio and I started laughing so hard I couldn't breathe.0 -
I think Christmas always sorts those who have their glass half empty from those who have their glass half full! i have had some terrible Christmas experiences in the past but I still love the overall holiday spirit.. for me, it isn't about the day, the presents, the food.. it's about the atmosphere of the season.. and all the people who are intent on finding it such a miserable time really drag that down.
I am not saying that everyone is obliged to love this time of year, not at all.. but it seems, just from the response on here (I haven't undertaken a large sample scientific study on this matter) that those who dislike the holidays most are those who are missing out! That's not to say you hate the festivity, it's more to do with resentment.. you're not able to enjoy it yourself!0 -
Danilynn do you work retail? Your schedule sounds like mine!
nope. water treatment.
It really doesn't have as many chemicals as people think. Most of the purification process is done by UV lights and UV from the sun. It gets chlorinated then dechlorinated. The same goes for the waste water treatment process too. The hippies would be proud.0
