Seeking Green Smoothie Recipes

Options
Starting tomorrow I'm going to drink a green smoothie daily because I keep hearing all of the wonderful health benefits that come from drinking them. Please post some of your green smoothie recipes (and calories too if you have that info). I currently have a huge bag of baby spinach but I can go and purchase some other greens tomorrow if the recipe require it.

Thanks so much:drinker:

    Right now I'm having:

    1.5 cups of baby spinach
    1 tablespoon of chia seeds
1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
    1 banana
    1 tablespoon of agave nectar
    Ice

    240 calories

I almost always use the unsweetened vanilla almond milk (40 calories/cup) and the chia seeds (25 calories a tablespoon), at least 1 cup of spinach, and then I vary the fruit. I keep frozen strawberries, raspberries, mangos, peaches, and cherries in my freezer, so it just depends how I'm feeling. Some of the fruit is sweet enough to overpower the spinach flavor, but if it isn't, I add agave nectar to make it a bit more tolerable!

It has been awhile since I've seen an avocado on sale, but I've added that in on occasion as well, and it makes my smoothies SO creamy! It is almost like drinking a milk shake :)

    Mine is:
1 cup of plain 0% Greek Yogurt
    1.5 Tbsp flax seeds
    1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
    1 apple
    1/2 orange
2 big, huge handfuls of spinach
    5 strawberries
    1 banana

It runs me over 500 calories but it's all I eat in the morning and I get so much good stuff from eating it that I just adjust my calories for the rest of the day. I've had one every single day since before Christmas except for today!!

    put in the blender canister:
1 c unsweetened almond milk (or coconut milk)
    1 tbsp almond butter
1 banana (slice and freeze ahead of time for a thicker smoothie)

fill the rest of the way with spinach & blend. as is around 240 cals...you can sub out other fruit or nut butter or milk with equally good results. this one is just my favorite.

So I tried to make a Green Smoothie this morning and failed completely! The ingredients I wanted were 2 cups baby spinach, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and 1/2 cup plain fat free greek yogurt.

Do you put the ingredients into the blender in a certain order? Because mine would not blend the spinach in AT ALL! :( Any suggestions? Thanks!!

The only way I have ever been able to make juice out of greens like spinach is with an actual juicer.

    Mango banana "Green Monster" smoothie:

*(This is just exactly how I do it. I posted the brands I use so I could be sure of the calorie and nutrition info I posted. Feel free to alter it to suit your needs/availability of ingredients, but swaps may change nutrition info)

(Recipe yields 6 servings, 11 oz. each)

16 oz. Trader Joe's Green Food super juice
    1 banana
2 cups frozen cut mango (Fresh & Easy brand)
1 cup raw baby leaf spinach
8 oz. baby carrots (about 15 baby carrots)
9 oz. non-fat plain Greek yogurt
    2 Tablespoons raw chia seeds

To blender, add Green Food juice, spinach, and baby carrots. Blend until all ingredients are finely ground and well incorporated. Then add 1 banana and FROZEN mango (do not thaw the mango). Blend until well incorporated. Lastly, add the yogurt and blend. When well blended, add Chia seeds and pulse only slightly. Serve immediately. If you are preparing the night before and keeping it in the fridge, wait to add the Chia seeds until right before serving, as they will become gummy/glutinous if left standing. You can omit the Chia seeds to reduce the fat and calorie count, but they are VERY healthy for you and are a source of good healthy fats.

    Nutritional information per serving:
    Calories: 171
Fat: 1.6 grams (no saturated or trans fats)
    Carbs: 30.8 grams
Sugar: 24.6 grams (no refined or corn sugars - only whole fruit sugars)

Also, spinach has VERY few calories and no fats. If you don't mind a smoothie that tastes "Greener," you can double, triple, or even quadruple the amount of spinach in this. I only use one cup when I'm making it for my kids. Any more than that, it doesn't taste fruity enough for them.

You have to have a decent blender in order to use spinach and not have it chunky. Other than that, blend your liquids with the spinach first, then add fruit, yogurt, etc...

I blend 2 cups spinach, 1 cup water, 1/3 cup orange juice, add 1 cup blueberries, a banana and a handful of ice.

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
    1/2 frozen banana
1 TSP peanut butter or 2 TSP PB2
    1 cup spinach
    1 cup almond milk

Blend well - it's really tasty and you don't taste the spinach at all...
