A little bit of exercise every day is better than a lot of exercise once in a while. I got this bit of advice a long time ago, but it was crucial.
  • You can't out-train a crappy diet.

    There are NO excuses..
    Be deliberate
    Be obsessed

One contraction at a time..which is only metaphorical in this context but was the best advice a midwife gave me during the birth of second baby and stuck with me for next three births. But I often think of this when I'm having a tough day and need to get through it one task at a time.

The most useful tip I've been given was to read this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Been making progress ever since then, losing fat & inches and enjoying food! :drinker:

i love this! i used to be thinking about losing weight for so long, but knowing it would take a long time thinking it wasn't worth it. then in a year's time, i would think, i could have lost this by now!

    You can't out-train a crappy diet.

I had to learn this the hard way. Bleh. Still hate the reality.

But I think the best advice I got was don't let a slip up make you give up.

Also, find what works for you and if something stops working find something else that does work.

Also, don't reward yourself with food, you aren't a dog.

So much great advice I've gotten on this site especially, can't pick just one!

Control your insulin release. All the rest is easy in comparison. Insulin rips off muscle mass faster than you can replace it. I wish I knew that years ago. Now that I avoid insulin spikes, it is easy to retain muscle mass.

Eat food that's high in volume and low in calories. Sounded simple enough.

This was told to me the first week I started WW in 2011. It's stuck with me ever since.

What are some examples of High volume, low in calorie food you ate?

Make sleep a priority and LOG LOG LOG your food/exercise (hence, the beauty of MFP)

    ^^^^^ This
  • I have a few -

It doesn't matter how slow you go, so long as you do not stop.

If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the answer

And eating 1200 calories when your BMR is way over is silly. Know your BMR and TDEE and eat between the two.

    wisest words so far! :)
  • Not personally given to me, but Jillian Michaels in her Yoga Meltdown - "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable". Whenever I think I'm going to quit during a workout, that's my mantra!

Eat fat, it is good for you.

I fell victim to the low-fat hysteria of the 1980's.
  • That numbers on a scale dont mean everything. Look at inches, physocal fitness, what you are putting in your body.
