I also want to know how useful it is to tell some people to concentrate on low GI foods with no reference to GL.

Nope, I think I've heard enough. Definitely not interested in reading your last three points. Honestly, I couldn't help but wonder why you feel you are an expert when:

    1. You JUST joined MFP
    2. You have lost 0 of 53 pounds so far

I'm fine with people sharing what works for them and offering suggestions on what might work for others, but once you start get preachy, you lose me...BIG TIME.

Excuse me while I enjoy my Special K bar AND the 18+ pounds I've lost without your so-called "expert" advice...

So being a long time member of MFP makes you an expert? ROFL

I agree with most of this....but it's hard to take advice from someone who has 53lbs to lose and has lost 0lbs.

Come talk to us when you have a 6-pack. :-)

Though, if you bring me a 6-pack of Founder's Porter, you can spout for hours about whatever you want.

I've seen a few people post this and it's pretty stupid. Maybe he has already lost 150 pounds and needs to lose 50 more after joining MFP. Would you put in the weight that you started at years ago or would you use the weight you started MFP at? I know I lost quite a bit before I joined so my ticker doesn't represent what I have lost total, it represents what I have lost since joining. Some of you people just don't use that gray thing between your ears very well.

Who exactly would that be that does not use that gray thing between their ears?

Yes, you are right, knowledgeable people never gain weight due to factors like stress, work, or simply bad choices....

This thread is pretty LOL considering most of the things I said are like well established science and embraced by virtually the entire weight loss medical community.

    AGAIN, FOR THE SLOWER PEOPLE....

I AM NOT SAYING YOU SHOULDNT EAT LESS THAN YOU EXPEND CALORICALLY...NOWHERE DID I SAY THIS.

    Thank you...lol.

When you post that calories in / calories out is moronic, it seems fair to infer that you suggest one should not use that method for weight loss.

    troll thread is trolling.

i hope newbs don't get sucked in.

the OP had so many troll posts deleted by the mods yesterday that he was down to a -1 (minus 1) post count at one point.

Lol, ok, what specifically in my post is FACTUALLY innaccurate?

Perhaps your intentions are pure....and there are a couple good points, but the reality is that if you are watching your calories, working out three nights a week is probably all that many people would ever need to do. So much depends on your personal goals. I go to the gym 4-5 times per week because I don't want to be skinny, I want to be fit. Some people are happy just being skinny. It might not be as healthy, but if it's better than they would otherwise be, who are you to judge?

Then please could you explain it to us dim witted souls how this comment "Why calorie in calorie out is moronic." ties with the above shouty comment.

What exactly are you trying to say? What is your point?

Eating 1400 calories of ice cream per day while burning 2500 calories per day is moronic. See how easy that was?

Say what you want to say, but two points of advice before you go any futher

    1) Don't call people morons

Who did I call a moron?

    2) Don't assume or infer that your way is the only way. You are free to have your own opinion on here. There are lots of METHODS for weight loss, different methods work for different people. I am very insulin sensitive, but eating 6 meals a day sure as hell didn't work for me. Intermittent fasting (eating two meals from 3pm-9pm) does work for me, very successfully in fact. I found this after 3 years of trying many different methods. Talk in a way of what works for YOU without preaching and telling people what they should do.

Of course different methods work for different people, but MOST people who are chronically overweight WITHOUT INTERVENING health issues will greatly benefit from moving from a 1-2 meal day to a 4-5 meal day.

No one is saying anything absolute, which is why the word GENERALLY litters my OP.

Lastly, you eating 6 meals a day and not losing weight is hardly proof that eating 6 meals a day wouldnt work for you....correlation and causation....im not an AP stats teacher so im not going to elaborate, but this is pretty simple stuff.

I did lose weight eating 5/6 meals a day but I came obsessed with what I should eat, the quantity, the cost, timings, eating out, socialising, it almost put me into an eating disorder!

I'm not saying this doesn't work for everyone, for some people, clearly you are one of them, it works perfectly. But not for me. Squashing 1400 calories into 6 meals a day was painfully exhausting, boring, and the quality and quality of food was ridiculous. I'm much happier going to bed without an empty stomach thanks!

Yes, I think we have common ground here.

You are admitting you didnt want to go through the effort of substantially changing your lifestyle to eat in the optimally healthy way for your body from my POV. That is fine...you know what is best for you and choice to do otherwise, that is fine...in fact, that is how ive gained weight over the past few yrs.

Im here just trying to impart some basic and fundamental knowledge to people so they can make INFORMED decisions for themselves.

Im kinda confused over how the "quality" of your food had to change in order for you to add 2-3 meals a day....it seems as though portioning is really the only change vis a vis more meals.

Now if you are talking about other parts of my post, I get it then.

Yes, it isnt simple and easy and no muss/no fuss to be healthy and maintain a healthy weight if you have a certain body type that we are discussing here; I will openly state that.

Also, it isnt easy, fun and painless to become wealthy, excel at work, have a good marriage, become a parent....etc. etc.

Yes, things in life worth something are hard and difficult at times....sorry.

It actually does make sense. Calories in vs calories out by itself IS moronic. While calorie counting is a great way to lose weight, eating the right calories is the key to success. Pretty simple for the not so simple minded.

So I lost 73 pounds putting less calories in and putting more calories out. And I'm not a moron. Tuned you right out.

Actually I'm quite interested to hear why he thinks this is wrong. There may well be more to it than what it looks like on face value, and I think it's going to be about healthy eating and exercise and making it sustainable, but I could be wrong!

And I lost 24lbs putting less in and more out, and feel that it's sustainable. It's looking like there may be troll activity though.

    JUST that "method"....

I would openly say JUST concentrating on that is usually quite ineffective at HELPING PEOPLE MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT FOR THEIR WHOLE LIVES.

No, that doesnt mean they cannot go super anal, and just eat significantly less for 6 month, lost e a pile of fat and muscle and feel good about posting a lady bug moving towards a meaningless number.

Im not quibbling about that....maybe you need to reread my posts in this thread.

I already said there are many ways to lose weight...including basically being imprisoned and having your caloric intake drastically limited.

    Trolling:

The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue. Trolling does not mean just making rude remarks: Shouting swear words at someone doesn't count as trolling; it's just flaming, and isn't funny. Spam isn't trolling either; it pisses people off, but it's lame.

The most essential part of trolling is convincing your victim that either a) truly believe in what you are saying, no matter how outrageous, or b) give your victim malicious instructions, under the guise of help.
Trolling requires decieving; any trolling that doesn't involve decieving someone isn't trolling at all; it's just stupid. As such, your victim must not know that you are trolling; if he does, you are an unsuccesful troll.

Ok, yes, after this post I include you in the moron category. I made it up. The point is, calories in vs calories out works, but it needs to be the right calories. FOR EXAMPLE if your goal is 1400 cals then 1400 cals of ice cream is not going to be a great plan for losing weight.

I CAN ONLY REPEAT THIS SO MANY TIMES FOLKS.
