Why are people so mean?!

I put on my big girl panties before I come to the boards. Some people are just rude. If internet strangers hurt your feelings you have 'bigger fish to fry'. Just ignore and move on.
this really made me LMAO...thanks for making my day!0 -
Thanks Melissa :-) You too!0

Some people are just unhappy...I always try to remember hurting people, hurt people.
By the way, I took her advice and POOF she was gone

It's sad. I do like the ignore function on my newsfeed (although I rarely use it - I just delete people), but it doesn't work in the forums (at least I don't think so!)... so if you want to reply to a thread and read the responses, you have to try to skip the morons.
Why don't you think it doesn't work in the forums? It works for me without issue. I ignore a person, I no longer see their posts.0 -

I just keep wondering why people don't take advantage of the ignore button. If you don't like the way someone responds to posts, just hit that little triangle next to their username, select "ignore" and POOF, no more posts by that person. Easy, and no need for whiny "everyone is so mean to me" posts.
Wow, didn't know about this. Hmm, it will be quite useful in the future : ) Thanks !0 -

I thought MFP was supposed to help motivate and push each other. I've seen so many nice comments back and forth between people and dishing out tons of encouragement. On the flip side, it is SO discouraging when people post things and are followed up with negative or harsh responses. This is not Twitter, or Facebook (where negativety and cyber bullying is everywhere). This is a place to help each other. Even if you don't agree with what people say, why bother putting in the effort to bring them down and be rude?! Not everybody has the same workout routines, times to eat, things to eat, life circumstances and so forth. Don't tear people down bc you don't agree with that they are saying. That is all
Spread love, not anger!
I think you have a great point. Some people can't help but to be mean or rude to people. I think it is because they are so self absorbed and being mean to others makes them feel good. But I agree that this place should be for support not rejection and if there is that one jerk then I also agree that you should block them because you can't stop people from anything. Or don't participate in these blogs. I usually don't but this one peeked my interest. I hope this helped.0 -
it must make them feel better about themselves, feeling all mighty and powerful0

I have known a few people, women in particular in this case, that call themselve "*****es". They always go on and on about how they always get what they want. I just laugh to realize all they ever really get is the minimum someone is willing to give to get the hell away from them.0

Why are people so hypersensitive?
Because it is so much easier to make you responsible for my hurt feelings than it is to address my issues and baggage that cause me to feel bad about myself.0 -
Your example is a good example of how to "argue" a point. I am talking about the people that call each other names and saw awful things, in a place that is supposed to harness positivity and encouragement. There is a very easy way to disagree, but some people are plain mean about it.0
-
Apparently people are missing my point.
I totally get where you're coming from, and I agree! If someone doesn't like a post, whynot just move on?? I don't see the need for hateful post, period.0 -

There are some legit arguments here. But a lot of what you're seeing is just back and forth between friends.
A lot more of what you see is people trying to keep misinformation from going unchecked in the forums. If they just ignore a thread full of incorrect info then it's as good as saying that info is correct.
Often when someone is disputing incorrect info, they aren't just or even primarily doing it for the OP's benefit. It's for the people lurking who may not realize that a source isn't reliable, or that a practice isn't healthy.
Don't you think it's worth a little arguing to make sure that you're getting correct information?
I am quoting this for the OP because THIS is what most of those people are often trying to do. I hope you didn't ignore this because it didn't support your point.0 -
I'M NOT YELLING! I'M GREEK! THIS IS HOW WE TALK!0

People are mean because Americans have been brainwashed by the media for the last 50 years to believe that if you're mean, you're strong and will endure. Not true you silly Americans. Your patriotism lacks humanity.
Shut up you limey *kitten*! We kicked your *kitten* in dubya-dubya two, and we'll kick it again whenever we want!

I think you have seen too many movies....0 -
People aren't mean.
People are people. Not to mention this is the internet, which it seems is every 3rd new MFP'rs member first foray onto ever. Shock, dismay, all part of the adjustment phase. Has nothing to do with "power trips" or "anonymity" or "mean people."

It's a social site - everyone has their own opinions and are more than happy to share them (good and/or bad) in their own way ~ that's human nature and should be expected. If you don't like it you shouldn't join any kind of social media site.0

No, I agree with you. I've used the MFP mobile app for quite a while, and it's only just recently that I came to the site and saw the boards. I was shocked at the lack of encouragement, the pettiness and the competition. It's not at all what I expected. So I've pretty much decided to keep out of it and use MFP as I had before...to set my own goals, track my own progress, and take care of ME.0

I always like to half-read these threads and look at the post counts of people that think that everyone here is mean, vs. the posts of people that are like "eh..."
And just so we're all clear, "bullying" on MFP = disagreeing and/or fact checking someone, even if it is based on your own personal experience.0 -
People are ignorant, know-it-all pricks0
