I didn't give anything up this year.
Instead I am going to volunteer every saturday morning.
Actually, you are sacrificing something. Your time. However, you are sacrificing it for the good of others and that is a great thing to do!
I am Southern Baptist so I don't observe Lent.
I guess that is a good point! I didn't really think of that0 -
I gave up alcohol and eating after 8 pm.0

That's really cool! I like that idea.0 -
Cookies.
And then my sister had to make some yesterday...but I didn't take any or any cookie dough (one of my biggest vices)0 -

It's true only because you end up eating less calories typically. Track what you eat after a certain hour of the day sometime and you'll see what I mean. Unless of course, you choose 8 pm and then eat a bunch at 7 pm0 -

My husband and I gave up eating snacks of any kinds at the movies (we can't bring any either - only water and/or gum), extra sleep by going to an extra Mass one day a week before work (will be getting up at 6AM instead of 7:30) and not eating after 9pm (unless we were late eating dinner, then we can eat dinner but no snacks).0

Ice cream! Which is huge because I usually have a half serving every afternoon. I was going to do chocolate completely, but then I realized Clif bars have chocolate, so just chocolate candy. i actually like the challenge of Lent, I've been able to drop some bad habits because of it.0

I gave up making food my God, and began allowing the Holy Spirit to help me make food a tool to create a healthy body. I also gave up FaceBook. It sucked up too much time , it is now better spent with family and friends
Blessings ion your Lenten journey.
hugs

I gave up soft drinks. I only drank diet drinks. I am amazed that I am not bloated anymore! I just wished I liked coffee. I have been drinking tea sweetened with Splenda to get some caffeine in my system.0

Is lent the same as Ramadan?0

I gave up all sweets, sodas & fast/fried foods....so far so good0

Is lent the same as Ramadan?
Same? No. Similar? Yes. Both are a time to decrease earthly pleasures or temptations (Foods, behaviors like swearing, etc) and increase spirituality (prayer, mediation, acts of service, etc)0 -
I gave up controlling my calories as strictly. I have been strictly limiting my calories to 1200 since October, and, while I have lost a fair amount of weight, it was driving me crazy and making me unhappy. So I increased my calorie limit by a bit to where I'm still able to lose weight (with a little increased exercise) and not drive myself as crazy!
I gave up a little over-control does that count?0 -
I like that one awesome. But got the last time Weight. I am giving up my weight. Does that count. Hopefully 10 lbs a month0

I decided to abstain from eating animal-based foods (basically going with a whole foods, plant based diet) and to stay away from anyone or anything that is negative and soul crushing. On the plus side I decided to devote at least 10 min every day engaging in a positive activity, whether it is kind words to myself or others, a healthy enjoyable activity or just doing something nice in general. Lent doesn't always have to about giving up something but maybe finding something that is better than what you were doing before.
Who knew I was actually listening during all those years of Catholic school and Mass? LOL My mom would be proud!
Instead of abstaining from something I have chosen to be a better communicator with my spouse. And my mom would be proud too...0 -
