:flowerforyou: DeeDee, I joined a challenge on MFP about a year ago to do a timed plank every day……I started with one minute and gradually increased the time in 5 second increments…….the challenge fizzled out but I have continued with a plank a day.

:flowerforyou: Sally, good luck to you, I know how stressful it is when hubby has surgery and then needs your help as he recovers

:flowerforyou: Phyllis, congratulations on citizenship in the country you’ve been living in and loving for so long.

:flowerforyou: Jb, it’s a sensational Saturday up here, tool

:flowerforyou: Katla, thank you for your kind words…..i joined this thread in February 2009 and I don’t know how long it had been going already…..sometime later, the woman who started it went on vacation and asked me to start the new thread for the next month and I’ve been doing it ever since…….I would be lost without all of you.

:flowerforyou: Eileen, I am so sorry to hear about your mom……my mom’s last years were in the same town with me and it was still stressful

:flowerforyou: Janie, you have so many decisions to make, no wonder you are stressed…..thanks for the reminder to drink water even if you HATE it……I treat it like a prescription.

:flowerforyou: Janehadji, put a few berries or a small amount of unsweetened applesauce or cinnamon in a vanilla shake and you might like the taste better….blackberries in a chocolate shake taste good too……also if you are faithful about two shakes a day with clean eating for your other meal, they will start to taste better to you.

:flowerforyou: Candy, who walks the dog the days you don’t?

:flowerforyou: Christschild2, you have some great goals….my favorites are sending cards and “not get discouraged”

:flowerforyou: Esther, that’s a great idea to take “try” out of the resolutions…..just do it.

:flowerforyou: Helen, my mother stayed in her own home with caregivers until the end of her life…..she and I argued a lot but now that’s she’s gone I remember her by being grateful for the many things she taught me that continue to make my life wonderful

 :brokenheart: This morning I enjoyed the feeling of gratitude for the last morning before daylights savings time comes and dumps another hour of darkness on my walk with the dogs……the darkness is fine in the winter but now that spring is coming, there is so much to see (flowers, leaf buds, birds) that I really like the daylight
oh, well, it will be better again in a few weeks.

    BUMP -

Quick dose of Vit. F. I tried again today to speak with my dad on the phone but he really couldn't communicate very well. One day he can be just foaming to talk to me (as best he can) and other days he really cannot put a sentence together and doesn't want to try. :brokenheart:

Time to start putting info together for my own tax appointment (all others for my dad and the trusts are long finished).

The fibro flare seems to be diminishing (thank the Lord) and I did some more vigorous exercise this morning. Fingers crossed that this improvement persists!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Best wishes to all---enjoy your weekend.:flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:

 Week 8 (of 14) of 10K training. It's going good so far and the weather is wonderful. The call has gone out to do a 32k walk on May 4th. I am actually thinking about participating. How's that for ambition - or foolishness

:drinker: Now to make myself a smoothie, because it's fruit and veggie challenge day!

:drinker: Just saw part of a CBC piece on the consumption of sodium. I want to see the whole thing. It is astonishing how much salt is in prepared and processed foods. I have decided to track my sodium intake again. Cheese is one of the food items that I really love and it is high in sodium. I may have to cut back on cheese.

Wishing you all a great day. I celebrate with those of you who are going through successes and I empathize with those of you going through difficult times.

Hi ladies! I think I forgot to come here yesterday but I did log! It’s rainy here in Omaha and we are supposed to get snow tonight, but it will warm up so it won’t last long. I have been working hard on the books and sent another chapter today. I am starting on the next chapter after I finish this.

DD#1 is waiting for a friend to show up from South Dakota. They were in the orphanage together and we haven’t seen him since he got here a few months short of 7 years ago. It will be interesting to see how he has changed! He drove down for the day just to see her (Hmmmmm) and is leaving tomorrow morning.

Construction continues on the garage. They are all done with the storage room in the attic and need to cut the doorway into our closet and finish/paint. Then just a few things in the basement left from a couple years ago when we finished it.

Does anyone have thoughts about the idea of being afraid to succeed? I used to hear that all the time on ediets.com and thought it was baloney. But now I’m wondering. I have no excuses for why I sometimes fall off the wagon or don’t log, don’t exercise, etc and it’s usually right after I post a loss. So it has me wondering.
I won’t be able to comment to everyone after missing a day, but here are a few:

Gail: you got the green one! It is beautiful!

Brooke: you crack me up…training men! I hope you figured out your lunch time!!!

Renny: you avoided the swear words in person????? I’m impressed!

Roz: after my knee injury I switched to an elliptical and so far, so good. No problems!!!

DeeDee: we played UNO for game night. It’s been a while since that one! Nice family thing…DD#1 wanted to go out with friends, but remembered it was game night and cancelled to be with us. Benny is doing well; you can’t tell he’s sick except he is starting to drink more water, which he did before he got really sick last time. Surgeon appointment isn’t til April 1….I hope he’s still doing well then.

Jodios: I shall have to remember that toothbrushes make grand weapons!

Jane: hope your day ended on a better note!

Carol: we have tons of games for game night…all kinds of board games and we also like cards. Occasionally we play wii bowling or something or once in a while watch a movie. Sorry is one of our favorites.

Well there are simply too many posts to reply to all of you…we are a chatty group with nearly 5 pages to catch up on after missing only a day. Welcome to the newbies, get well to anyone feeling sick, virtual kick in the pants to those without motivation right now (that was me last week), and virtual hugs to all. Take care, Meg

My mum is just the same, she is 95 and we do her shopping, she still thinks that stuff costs the same as it did 20 years ago, my husband hates to take her shopping to her as she always complains about how much it costs - it hardly evers costs over £10!!!

Well this morning I had one of the hardest conversations I think I have had in a very long time..I called my friend Ruth she is in a rehab hospital at the Cape and I basically called her to say goodbye. She came here from Germany many many yrs ago ,she was in Germany when the bombs were dropped ,she remember's alot, But she is Stubborn, very very Stubborn!!! her Dr's say that to live that she needs to have her leg amputated, she has been diabetic for many many yrs and is overweight, she has had an ulcer on her leg for yrs that hasn't healed. She wants to go with both legs still attached...
She sounded so worn out, we didnt really say goodbye and I will call her again tomorrow, but she just cried and said she loved me and of course I am crying here and saying the same thing..
She has a boyfriend that she has lived with for the last 20-30 yrs and was married once but never had children, So we have become close over the years, I know everyone leaves us sometime ,but not to be able to be there and not really knowing when the time will come, and I sooo wish I could take a few days to go up and be with her, but I dont have the time..I pray that when she does go ,it is peaceful. She is a very strong willed woman and to hear her crying like that just broke my heart..
I have always ,always said that you dont know how long you will be on this earth and the ones you love,be it family or friends you need to tell them you love them, constantly , everytime you see them, because one day you or they wont be there to say it~ and sometimes it is to late.. I will never be in that predicament, and I dont care of silly I sound, but I do tell those whom I love that I love them all the time...Life is precious..

Bump for my spot on the thread -- we are certainly chatty so far this month.

Went to the gym this afternoon - 3.5 miles uphill on the TM in 65 minutes and 32,000+ pounds on the weight machines in 50 minutes. I love feeling strong! My neighbor and I also walked 3.7 miles last night in 63 minutes. We are evenly matched/paced, so it works out great.

Needed to stop at the store to pick up a prescription today and loaded up on fruits and veggies again. Some people have a Starbuck's or beer budget, but my money goes in the produce section every week. Pretty pricey these days. Hopefully my blueberry bushes will be big producers --- though this is the first year planted, so I'm not counting on it. It will be nice when the farmers markets start back up.

Paid bills this morning and did some other paperwork. Now to do laundry and start some white chili and cornbread for supper tonight. Time sure flies - I think of all I want to do on the weekend during the week and somehow it never is all done.

BTW - I'm taking back ALL of the spanx/flexees, etc., tomorrow. DH just laughed and said he knew that would happen. He does know me well. We'll celebrate our 40th anniversary in a couple of months.

Beautiful Saturday with lots of errands getting done. Unfortunately got the munchies this afternoon but plan to pop a DVD in and work off some of those calories.

Jo – love the analogy of peeling off the layers. We have layers in so many areas of our lives. Is JM helping with the batwings? I really will get back to it ASAP if it is.

Rosedoll – Happy Birthday and good luck on the test results.

Renny – You would think they would do something to remedy your situation. Hopefully the optometrist will make it right. Just a thought, did you happen to charge your glasses? Maybe you could talk to the credit card company and see if they could help you.

Katia – joy is the word for what you’re experiencing with your family. We loved the Columbia Gorge when we visited OR.
You can read when they’re gone. You know what they say about duck tape, it works for everything. Maybe just the threat of using it will work on your DH’s driving advice.

I though I was caught up and I just looked and I’m responding to Thursday posts!

Barbie – so happy you and Jake are safely home. Driving will get easier the more you do it.

Linda – actually you are off so enjoy the weekend. Good luck with your carpel tunnel surgery.

DeeDee- 20 push-ups is awesome. I’m impressed with the plank also because they are so hard. You’re doing great.

Phyllis in Cairo – it is so nice that you’ve joined our international group of women 50+. DH and I visited Egypt last spring so I can relate to where you are. DH is now working on a video of our visit and happens to be working on Cairo right now.

Laura in CO. Did you get the snow? MY DGS was suppose to play lacrosse today but I don’t know if it’s outside. The good thing about CO is it melts away so quickly.

Jodios – enjoy having your kids home for spring break. Hope you get some good weather. Husbands don’t have a clue when it comes to weight loss.

M- so glad you’re going to CO to see your Mom. What fun to be able to go to lunch with the other Co girls. We’re here to listen so if you want to complain about hot flashes, we’ll listen!

Texasgal – thanks for the picture. That is the cutest thing. I noticed the k on the front for Kashton. You’re right about the heat but aren’t you tired of the wind?

Jane in Co – no I have dry macular degeneration. They do have a laser treatment for the wet kind. Is you dad taking the vitamins? There is a website called Macular Degeneration Foundation. That’s where I found the AREDS study that I participated in for 6 years.

Robin – you are sick! Do you have any chicken soup? Hot lemonade is good for your throat. Take care of you.

Welcome to Esther – there are a lot of ladies from Oregon.

Amanda – your post took me back to the time when we were stationed at Weathersfield (Essex County)and I had to take the English driving test. I had just had a baby and the tester was worried I wouldn’t get home in time to feed her. (He didn’t knowI wasn’t nursing her). Anyway, I passed on the first try.

OK, I made it to Saturday morning so I’m going to post now and get dinner ready. Hopefully, I can come back later and finish reading.

    My goals for March are:
    1. Get 5+ F/V a day
    2. Make one new recipe a week
    3. Begin a weight training program

:grumble: Wizzywig I hate those auto updates--they are always at inopportune times. And if I shut them off, I'm so unorganized and rushed that I'd never do them.

Well, I ran 4.5 miles this morning before hitting the road at 8:30 for a 1.5 hour trip to an art workshop. I picked up such good lunch provisions at whole foods yesterday for today's lunch...also packed a grapefruit and pear, along with my fiestaware fork...put it all in my favorite lunch cooler bag.

I was so into painting that I didn't stop for lunch. It wasn't until I hit about the 40 mile mark coming home I realized I forgot the bag there. All because I am an unorganized mess! I had my paintings, back board, utility bag, paint box and freaking pocketbook...now I'm out a great bag and fork.

Honestly, I have improved so many areas of my life but I don't think I EVER will be organized or neat.

Edit: and now I'm even more irked. I have an 8 mile hike tomorrow with my "oldest bestest" friend. I always drive. I have a lot of art stuff and basically a lot of stuff in my SUV. I usually just toss it in the backseat or trunk area. She went and invited two other mutual friends who are NOT hikers, which means I have to clean out the backseat area for them, PLUS we'll probably have to go much slower. It's like I'm hiking with a platoon now. If I wanted to hike with a platoon, I'd have joined the damn army. And they'll be here at 8 a.m. AND I have to lug the stuff up 14 floors.

    Rant over.

    Mess still here.

Renny - I'm glad someone is taking at least part of the blame for your fiasco. Now for the rest. I don't blame you one bit for giving the MD a time limit. Otherwise, it would probably drag on and on and on.

Jean - welcome. It's ALWAYS OK to join. Looking forward to getting to know you better

jmklmpmm - that's wonderful that your mom has a fridge. You know, having it she'll have access to snacks lots, just be sure she doesn't have too much

Did about 50 minutes of yoga today. The instructor had to leave early. Stopped at Big Lots and got one stool for our kitchen. See, if you have 10 purchases of at least $20, you get 20% off your next purchase. Each stool is like $35, so I'll get one/day. I'm usually up that way anyway. Then stopped at Bi-Lo because I didn't remember that I had celery and I know they have organic celery so I got that, some spinach, and grapefruit. Came home, then went bowling, then to Aldi's to get more mushrooms, on the way home stopped at Bed Bath & Beyond because the egg slicer Vince got me for Christmas really broke (well, I WAS using it on mushrooms, but I used my old Kitchen Aid one on mushrooms and didn't have a problem), came home and made some Tuscan Vegetable Soup, broiled the mushrooms (I broke the egg slicer they exchanged so I just cut up the rest of the mushrooms), got dinner plated and in the fridge. Now I have to get ready for church (I'm serving).

Tomorrow I think I'll do some more balance games on the Wii. I really need work on my balance lately.

    Ester - welcome!

christschild - that is so nice of you to send a card! Congrats on the weight loss. And welcome!

ohiomom - have fun in TX

Phyllis - citrus fruits are in season here, too. Not strawberries yet, tho

Linda - I hate to fall behind, too. Good for you continuing to lose and keeping those blood sugars good.

grandmalle - how I can relate. Denise is with the guy who we're 99.99% sure severly abused Lexi. His mother cosigned for an apt, then they skipped out and she owed $2,000, then she cosigned for ANOTHER one. I'm certain it's because she doesn't want her son in the house, her second husbnad threw her son out of the house while we were still in PA. The hard thing is that Denise could have so much, but she's not being forced to grown up and get on her own, the mother is always there. Long story, I don't want to bore you, but know that I know your feelings of helplessness. You have no idea (no, you probably do) how many times when she's sick I just want to move her down here and take care of her myself. Do you need to watch your protein intake? Is there something else, I can't remember, is it potassium? I'm so so sorry for that call. It was nice of you to do it, but I can hardly imagine how much it hurt, especially when you hung up.

Robin - sure hope you're better. Sending virtual chicken soup

katla - loved the "voodoo donut" stop...that really cracked me up . I thought you were kidding about the name, but, hey, is that the place's real name???

Eileen in San Diego - isn't it amazing how fast the pounds go on and how slow they come off? ?That never ceases to amaze me. Prayers for your mom and dad. I know you'll make the right decision.

We turn the clocks back tomorrow
yea yea yea <doing a real happy dance>

Candy from NC - very nice goals.

moxie - I'm like you, I don't really do a "spring cleaning", I do it all during the year, too.

jane in CO - a massage sounds yummy. You deserve it, too, after all that shoveling.

Happy mother's day to everyone who will be celebrating tomorrow. I didn't realize that it was tomorrow for you

Meg - I do hope that Benny continues to do well and that him being well now isn't the calm before the storm. How does your game night work? Does everyone play one game or do different people play different games? What about timing?

I hear ya about the way our parents complain about how much things cost. I remember that once I bought my father a coat. He wanted me to go to KMart and get a cheap one. I wanted him to have something good. So I went to the store, bought him a good coat and then told him it was on sale (it really wasn't), so he'd accept the coat. He would never in a million years have accepted it at the price it was.

Gail - you went uphill on the TM? What incline? I haven't done incline intervals in so long, I did them yesterday and now my shins are feeling it. I can't wait for the farmer's markets to open up! Vince and I have been married 35 years. Last year he bought me an anniversary card and I got him one. We got each other the exact same card!!!! Different stores, but we got the same card!!!! The kids just laughed and said "you've been married too long"

Jackie - running 4.5 miles!!!! Wow is all I can say. Good for you packing your snacks. That's the way to do it. So sorry you lost your bag and fork. Rant away. I hear ya.

Lynn - I was starting to wonder where you were

    Kathy - great loss

Going to post this to mark my spot. Hope everyone has a great evening.
