I prefer green smoothies to green juice, since you lose the fiber with juicing. I've only ever done a liquid fast, where you can have green juice, green smoothies, tea, water and raw soups. It was wonderful and I really liked it. But because I wasn't doing all green juice, I didn't have to worry about what happens when you don;t have fiber. I don't remember it really being addressed in the movie, but when you do green juice fasts, you are suppose to have regular colonics...eek!

I've been juicing consistently everyday. I didn't do a fast though. just 12-24 oz a day, but one thing is my skin a Way better than before. I have Diabetes which makes my skin heal very slowly. leaving larger scarring. but after the juicing. The healing accelerate like crazy. What not to love. I personally know a Gerson therapist. She has really cured cases of end Stage Cancer with Juicing and colon cleanse. That makes me a believer.
For those who doesn't know what Gerson therapy look up " A beautiful Truth " on Youtube or Netflix.

My husband and I juiced for different amount of days. He juiced for 4 straight days. Felt awful. But stuck to it...and now adds a veggie juice once in awhile but has changed his eating habits for the better because of trying it.
I juiced straight for 5 days. Loved it!! BUT did have a few issues so realized that for me, I needed to eat but in better portions and better choices and I always have a GREEN juice to start my day!!!! Yesterday I skipped juicing for the whole day because just was a hectic day and the effects were horrible.....Sluggish and Tired and just not a good feeling. So now I know....Juice on to start my day....and maybe add one for lunch and eat a sensible dinner......For me, I will never be a vegan....but adding more fresh leafy greens and good fruits is a plus!!!!!! Eating the way God intended. Use fresh local produce and support our local farmers!!!!

Much prefer the crunch. Did a very brief juice fast a few years back. nearly vommed everytime I had to drink it, hate the consistency..
  • I loved the documentary, though I didn't take it as a 'I'm gonna juice all my meals for two months to lose weight' kinda thing.
I bought a cheaper hamilton beach juicer, and I use it instead of buying juice at stores, and as easy way to get more fruits and veggies in my diet. Thats all.

The only negatives were 1) the craving to "chew" something, which may have gone away if I had done the fast longer and

I sincerely doubt the craving to chew would have gone away. Human beings were meant to eat, that's a biological imperative. If that goes away, you're in big trouble, medically speaking.

My friend does it. He lost 16 pounds in a month. I don't think it is sustainable for long periods, but good nutrition to add to your diet. My 2-year-old drinks the Kale, beet, green apple and lemon mix. He devours it. Would he eat those? Probably not. (By the way, Oxyclean does a good job of getting beet juice out of a onsie)

The only advantages I ever saw to juicing was:
    1) once when a friend had his broken jaw wired shut and all food had to go through a straw, and
    2) when I was ill and could not tolerate solid food on a long term basis.
Protien shakes and liquid meal replacements are not all that and a bag of chips LOL. Juices can exit the stomach a little faster than its chewed counterpart, and sometimes one is just desperate for fresh fruit.

Totally forgot about using it to disguise nutritious foods that a child might be less than willing to eat because of texture! Good one!
We used to hide all sorts of stuff in spaghetti sauce this way. He could spot the stuff run through the food processor because air would always whip in and make it a bit foamy.

I probably shouldn't weigh in on this but I will.

My boyfriend watched this documentary and got all worked up. He does this after every documentary he watches. And then I point out who paid for it, what information did they purposely leave out, blah blah blah.
But, he would not let this one go, so I made him a deal. If he was willing to dish out the expense of a juicer and loads of vegetables so that we could add ONE veggie juice to our daily diet, I would be in charge of changing our food diet for the better. We would not only survive on juice, we would use it as a supplement. It should be mentioned that I was already starting my healthy change and very determined. Sparked by my own need to be healthy and good science not some radical documentary.
We've been doing this for a month. Results?
    1. He gave up after 3 weeks, too much work.
    2. I'm still sticking with it.
Here's what I've noticed. I feel better when I have my juice supplement, it's loads of green veggies. Depending on your juicer, some fiber does still make it into the juice. But, seriously, fiber is overrated. If you're eating healthy and just using this as a supplement, fiber is not a problem. As for the people who complain, "Why not just eat it?" Um, have you seen everything that goes into a glass of juice?? You'd be full before you could eat it all and some of it tastes pretty nasty on its own. -I am not a fan of kale, but I drink the juice.
As one other person mentioned, my skin is better. My skin tone is evening out, a bonus since I'm in the sun a lot for work. Also, I have more energy and less muscle cramps with my workouts. I'm sore less. Sure, people will dispute that, but hell it's what I've noticed. Also, I've begun craving vegetables more! I used to never, I mean NEVER eat lettuce and now I'm all about lettuce. Same thing with other vegetables. Other foods taste better, sweet things taste too sweet.... blah blah. When we started, I had to plug my nose to drink the stuff, now I crave the juice.
Also, my cholesterol and blood pressure are down and I'm consistently losing weight.
Now, is this ALL from juicing, no. I'm working out, watching what I eat. Do I see benefits to what I call my juice plan, yes.

There is no miracle pill, plan, supplement, blah blah. Sure, put juicing in the category of protein shakes if you'd like. Call it a crazy nutjob plan. I say to each their own and as long as things are done in moderation. (I utilize protein shakes too)
I will say juicing enables me to "eat the rainbow" and garner those nutrients and all those nutrients are in their RAW state. Untouched by cooking. BONUS POINTS.

    Apologize for the rant.

My husband and I loved watching Joe's video and we get his emails. It's very interesting. We juice every now and then, typically around lunch. We try not to add too much Vodka. Seriously, we haven't taken this up 100%. We supplement with juicing a few times/week for lunch and it perks us up. AND it's very entertaining! We are familiar with Joe and the juicing idea, I just don't think it will work for me. I am sticking with MFP.

Oh and my juice recipe is: Kale, Romaine, cucumber, lemon, ginger, carrot, yellow squash, and red apple, sometimes a couple grape tomatoes if I have them. I've also been known to throw zucchini in from time to time...
    One of my recent juices...

(This one had a little more apple than I usually use because the apples were starting to turn and it was a little sweeter than I like)

Makes me wanna juice soo bad. I love that documentary. It's so inspiring. Has anyone on here gone on a juice fast and seen results like his?

Why juice it? Just eat the stuff.....This whole juicing thing is really kind of crazy......as if turning it into juice somehow magically transforms the nutrients into muscle building/fat burning/energy restoring magic molecules.

I didn't think anyone was claiming it was "magic" i just thought it was just easier.sticking 9 carrots, 2 oranges 4 lemons and a handfull of spinach in a juice that makes a pretty good drink might be a little easier then trying to eat all that. Almost like getting mad at people for ordering a ice cream shake instead of ice cream in a cup lol. I think convience is the draw for most....not the magical molecular ability properties of the blender.

Was the infamous question of "specifically what toxins are detoxed in a juice cleanse?" answered in this thread? I woke up this morning with a renewed sense of optimism that today might be the day. I certainly hope so.

Some folks can't digest fiber easily and juicing is a very good alternative.

I haven't watched it. But it seems to me that if you're only eating foods that can be juiced in a blender/processor, that these foods are on the healthier side already. Maybe that's the missing/key factor. Have these people lost because they've changed their eating habits and types of foods? Or is it only because they've started using a new machine?

If I went from eating pizza, cakes, chips, etc. to only "drinking" veggies and fruits, I'm sure I'd lose, too. But by juicing, you also lose the benefits of fiber. I know that I can follow eating normal food in moderation for the rest of my life. Don't think I could follow a juicing diet for the rest of my life. You decide.

THIS. And the act of chewing alone helps keep you satisfied/fuller for longer. ANd I may be mistaken but don't many fruits and veggies lose their fiber when juiced? Ive heard that but it doesnt make sense to me since really i thought i would only change the texture. Though maybe that only refers to the powdered and pre-made blends you buy at the store or restaurant chains

I think Juicing should only be used on rare occasions as a detox. You know.. After a week long vacation of crap food and alcohol. To me, a healthy diet is one that can be maintained for a lifetime. Juicing is not something that you can sustain yourself on. It is expensive and you can get the same nutrients from eating the fruit and veggie as a whole for a whole lot less money.

Not sure if srs. What would you be detoxing exactly? What advantage does this have over your body's natural detoxification process? How does this "juice" "detox" exactly?

Please don't tell me, I was the only one who had to google this movie...

I never heard of it before, but have heard of the thought process... and to me it makes little to no sense. I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like your just upping the water one drinks, with flavoring of a veggie and fruit

wouldn't it be easier, just to drink more water and take a multi-vitamin for your daily meals?

my question was sarcasm, if you didn't catch it
