My thinking is, if you would not say something to someone's face, for fear that they might punch you in the face for saying it, then don't type it in a forum.
And if you ARE one of those people who speak their minds without a filter, than don't get bent out of shape if you get it thrown back at you.
If someone comes on the board asking for advice, if you have some constructive advice for them, then share it, in a respectful way. If you only have snarky, rude, insulting comments to offer, then please just leave it alone and move on. I know it is so tempting to get caught up in the funny, snarky remarks and gifs that others are posting, and hey, we all like to get a laugh now and then, but not at the expense of someone else who really needs help.
One sarcastic remark won't kill them, but when the thread turns into a free-for-all of people trying to out-snark the others, it really does get out of hand, and even the toughest skinned people can get beat down by it.
It would also be nice if people who start the sarcastic, mocking threads, with the sole purpose of making fun of people who do or say certain things, would keep them in the Chit Chat section, so others don't mistake them for ACTUAL serious threads.
And if someone is offended by something in a thread, check to see if it is in the Chit Chat section before hitting report. Most likely, it is good natured ribbing between friends.
As for what is reportable? The forum guidelines spell it out fairly clearly. Doesn't mean that everyone should report every violation they see, but if you do break a rule and get busted for it, at least you were warned ahead of time. So post at your own risk.
MFP site=MFP rules.
Disagreeing with someone is not a reportable offense. Being rude, insulting, and attacking someone for having a different opinion is a different story.
Off my soapbox now. As you were.:flowerforyou:0 -

Personal insults - about appearance/weight. Nothing else is off limits for me.
I reported two posts the first month I was here. One was actually about me and called me out by name. The other was a religious thread where admittedly I was just doing it to be a ****. Now, I just don't go in those threads.
It would take a lot for me to report someone now. I have a sense of humour, am hard to offend and also know how to close a browser window.0 -
I haven't reported anything. There's other posters who will report things that actually need reporting (racial insults, etc) and white knights/SJWs for everything else.0
