To the lifters...would you be annoyed if...

Ok...I just started a lifting routine. Currently only doing 60 pounds on the bench press and yes, my arms are stressed on the last couple reps (do 2 sets of 10/12 reps). I would like to try and up the amount by 5 or 10 pounds, but I don't have someone to spot me and really don't want to drop it on my chest. So to all the lifters, how annoyed would you be if while you were between sets of something else or just standing around, I asked you to spot me so I could try and safely lift my measely 65 pounds (after you have just finished 3 or 4 times that much)? And I'm not that hot looking girl you are hoping will talk to you...i'm the lady in her 40s just trying to get in some exercise. Thanks.
I'd be stokefesting on it! Why would anyone be weird about spotting a fellow lifter??

I have to do this every week. I NEED a spotter only on bench at this point, because I cant focus on my strength if im about to drop 70 pounds on my throat. No one ever objects, sometimes someone else will volunteer and they always run over to help. it takes less than 2 minutes and there is a brotherhood in the weight room.
FEAR NOT
If you are legitimately working out and only ask for safety reasons, no one would turn you down. If you are giggling and using that as your pick up line, then NO.0 -
This morning I was doing bench, and I actually picked someone out ahead of time that was just starting a workout as well. I told him - Hey I have 4 sets Im comfortable with and then I need a quick spot on a Set of 5 and a set of 3, can you help me out in about 20? And he was like -waved me off- pfft yeah no problem - just get my attention and I'll spotcha

I always ask someone to spot me at the gym the first time i increase weights, mainly because the other girls i go with would not be able to catch the weigths if they fell. Its gotten to the point some of the people ask me if i need them as a spotter today before they leave the gym. I think it would be a lot more annoying for you to drop the weight on your head and have a medical emergency where that part of the gym needs to be closed while they wait for medical help.
Why is it over your head? - it should be over your chest.
When you rack/unrack, it is over your head, right? That's when the spotter needs to be on point. Also, I've seen hundreds of missed bench attempts at meets and it almost always involves the bar coming back towards the lifters head when the attempt goes south. Rarely do people lose the lift the other way.
For the OP, I wouldn't mind at all. Like others have said, just be clear on what you expect from the spotter.0 -
I wouldn't be annoyed at all. I'd be thrilled to help out.0

I would definitely help somebody out. In fact I do it on a regular basis.0
