Neither! I run in Nike Vomeros. It's a neutral shoe. I've tried neutral shoes by both Asics and Brooks and I've yet to find a pair better than Vomeros. They are expensive but worth it.
  • All brooks for this dude!!! LOVE my brooks pure grit 2
  • Just bought a pair of Brooks Ravenna 4. They are awesome..great for moderate over pronation and they are designed to get you up on your toes more when you run.

    Asics!

I have tried nike, reebok, mizuno, brooks, and saucony and prefer asics. I love the gel nimbus and gel cumulus!
  • I'm a Brooks girl. Been in them for over 10 years. Ran in the Adrenaline forever... then last year got the PureFlow. It's okay - negative drop tho. Now I'm trying out the Ravenna... less stability than the Adrenaline. Thinking of going back to my trusty Adrenaline.

But it's what works best for your foot, your gait, your body. That's it.

You should check out the pure cadence it is inbetween the two.

I ran in Adrenaline GTX for a long time loved them

    Love my Asics.
  • Asics here, but haven't really tried anything else besides Nike and New Balance.

OK not to get off subject here but since there is 3 pages of responses I will ask this.

I get shin splints easily. What would benefit me the most for preventing this from happening?

My experience in choosing a running shoe is based on price and fit. I have never had anything else evaluated.

    Suggestions.

Feel free to PM if you like to keep this thread uncluttered.

Go to a running specialty store, they will watch you walk, run.. look at the bottom of your shoes. They will *kitten* your feet and walk and let you know what kind of shoes you need.

I have never run in Asics but my sister loves them (she might like Brooks but she says she is not willing to spend the $$). I have the Cascadia for trail running and already need to buy a new pair. I'm on my third pair of Brooks road shoes. I was previously fit in Saucony but I feel that I get better cushion for long runs in the Brooks (currently running in the Launch and they're everything I the reviews said they would be and SO much more....LOVE them!!

Brooks Adrenaline for me - running anything over 2 miles in Asics results in massive blisters all the way up the instep of my feet. Not good!

I've also tried Saucony (ok, but just not the same as Brooks) and New Balance (didn't last well).

I've basically decided that there's just no way I'm ever using any other running shoe. Funkier colours are available if you internet shop - Milletts online have black and all sorts! :)

I have been running for the past 3 years and have done several 5ks and a half marathon. I had my feet measured and tested at the Greenlake Running store in North Seattle. For my feet, the Brooks were a great fit. I think it really depends on what time of feet you have and how you run. I noticed a night and day difference when I got the soles from the running store that were tailored to my feet exactly. The soles were $70 alone. VERY spendy. But, worth it. I think if you have those soles, it won't matter too much which running shoe you have - as long as it's the right one for your feet.

Asics Kayano - paid £120 ($180) for them - if Asics are cheap, dread to think what the others are like!

Had my stride etc tested - ended up having three members of staff spend over an hour with me, so they earned their suggestion of the most expensive shoe, at least!

Be interested to hear about a similar show for mild over-pronation? (Actually my left foot isn't TOO bad, my right foot's just WRONG thanks to having tib and fib smashed up, then only held together with a bit of metal for 7 months before another operation got them starting to heal.)

When I was first wearing them, the back of my foot rubbed on the back of the training, giving me a blister and damaging the shoe.
Since going to running socks from normal socks they seem to be ok and not getting much worse.
Presuming there's a chunk of life left in the shoes otherwise, can I get the lining etc at the back repaired easily?

At the moment I'm doing 25 to 40k a week.

Noticable that I did get some hip pain running in a pair of hand me down New Balance trail shoes on the road. Ok on the trail, as you might expect :).

I used to wear Asics, then they narrowed the toe box and I couldn't wear them anymore. Since then I've run in various shoes from Saucony, Nike, and Mizuno.

Currently about to get my 3rd pair of Saucony Kinvaras (neutral, light, 4mm drop, some cushioning). Right now they suit me just fine, but I'm not so loyal that I won't switch to something else if I try it and like it. I will say, though, that the Kinvara is the ONLY shoe that has fit me better in the women's version than the men's. I have big, very wide feet, so I almost always have to wear men's running shoes--my "Gender Engineered for Men" Mizunos especially cracked me up.

I bought a pair of Brooks Pureflow shoes because I wanted something light and I enjoyed the color (I obviously made a very informed decision!). Anyway, they work great and I love them.

When was this, out of interest?

I have the Kayano Gel 16; wondering if the 19 is going to be narrower as I have fairly wide feet at the toes.

I'm more of a minimalist. I don't like the Cascadia - too heavy. I do like the Brooks Pure Grit and the Asics Gel Fuji Racer for trail shoes. I would think if you like the Cascadia then the Pure series may take some getting used to.

Ah, found the site I was looking at the other day:
    http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageMRS-AKA19M3.html
I can see that the 11.5 version 19 is a little more compact than the 16 - it suggests getting a US size 12 in the version 19 to replace a 11.5 in the version 16.

I'm currently experimenting with Brooks but I started with Asics and on my feet right now are Asics GT-2000. I just think that I might be a 4E instead of a 2E and I'M GOING INSANE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE RIGHT SHOW FOR ME IS. I AM LOSING MY MIND WITH OBSESSION.

It was a few years ago, so if you have recent shoes you should be fine.

This was interesting - you think because the Pure series will be a lot lighter? Or the drop difference? Or something else?

Once you go Brooks, you never go back. :)

At least I didn't. The shoes seriously saved me a ton of foot owies!

I run in both. I switch between Brooks Pure Flow and Asic Nimbus. What I wear depends on my training for the day. I run my races in the Brooks.

    ASICS for me.

Get fitted professionally and see what is best for your foot and the activity that you are doing. Runners for running - Cross Trainers for the rest.

They have some fabulous colours in sports shoes these days!! Go crazy!

Thanks for the topic! I'm torn right now as well. I love my Brooks Glycerin but they are quite expensive
  • I was always an asics girl, I like brooks, but bought Nike.

It's what you prefer. If you have an hour, go try different ones on. Ever consider Vibram FiveFingers?

I absolutely LOVE my Brooks Glycerines. I'm on my 3rd generation of them, soon to upgrade again to the 11s! They fit my foot , provide support and still feel relatively light. I've found with aisics they feel large on my feet and kind of heavy while I run. Just my personal feelings though!
