I'm pretty sure we're talking past each other. I think you are just highlighting some positives of paleo without supporting it all then? Not trying to offend you either.

    Yes

Because all my life I was always told I was a greedy child and needed to stop eating. I never considered that it was what I was eating.

Grits are ground corn, and they are very popular in the southeastern U.S. primarily as a breakfast food, though you really haven't experienced Southern cousin until you've had shrimp and grits. They remain a regional staple. I grew up on them and love them.
I always that grits were made of wheat. Guess that's why I'm a Yankee-girl.
I'm a Yankee, married to a Southerner. I'll never forget the first time I went to visit his family and saw Quaker Instant Grits in the grocery store. Like, who knew they existed?

Haven't you ever seen "My Cousin Vinny"?

"No self respecting southerner uses instant grits!"

Why do people eat the rubbish processed stuff out there?

Its called marketing. They're good at manipulation and are paid to make something that's not even good for you look good enough to buy! ... They're way down on my list of professions I trust..,
    Cause maybe it taste good

This is a very good point. People are driven to eat based on hormones. If what you eat messes with those hormones, you will have a very hard to ignore desire for more food.

In for the fruit pastels. Because they sound yummy and colorful.

How do we know lions don't like them, BTW?

    Because lions are carnivores.

So are their distant cousins, the house cat, but given the opportunity, mine will steal a pop tart right off my plate.

Our bodies weren't designed to eat soy protein isolate either. Do your research on that.

Yes, we have been brainwashed. Those, especially, who "diet" have been brainwashed. The food industry is a for-profit industry. So is the healthcare industry...

So are the paleo's...they make their own protein powder. Paleo marketing was so easy a caveman could do it.

simple answer.... money, its all about the money. how can the big company save a buck at your expense. If you really want to eat purely clean raise your own cows and chickens and grow your own fruits and veggies! don't be a part of their system!

I think it is important to note the good points the paleo diet makes along with what technology has provided for us. Not all of each are bad, but finding the merits of both is what I think people need to do more of rather than bashing everything and remaining potentially ignorant of useful information.

Protein powder is processed food...which is what the paleo crowd is supposed to be against..

There are some seriously hard core paleo types who refute all modern marvels. But this seems to me as bad an idea as an all raw food diet. I personally think good quality meat beats a protein shake. However you can find plenty of paleo types adopting more modern things such as protein powder.

And just because a food is processed doesn't mean it's bad for you. Drinking water is processed.

  • This is a great point actually!! People don't think or realize that what they eat effects not only their physical appearance( weight) but their minds, energy, hair, skin.... Everything!

People are suppose to eat raw foods. Veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds, grains like rice, quinoa, millet... Not wheat. Meat.... I don't think so.. Maybe fish but when we eat large amounts of meat, those specific protiens screw with our bodies. And your right, dairy is something we can't digest properly. People now eat because it is an addiction, or whatever the reason ( processed food taste so good) not because they are hungry. We are suppose to eat for energy, not because we are hungry.

I personally think that alot of doctors may not know the importance of eating "clean" or perhaps they have given up trying to convice people to change. Hey! After watching "super size me" people still eat mcDonalds food so it doesnt matter what you do, people will only change what they eat, if they want to.

I also think all the processed foods, chemicals, additives, preservatives play a big part in all our disesases... Cancer!!

A good book that supports this is " you are what you eat" by Gillian mckeith.

Good point! And we have been brainwashed!!

Mine steals whole loaves of bread, eats what she can and strews the rest over the house for me to step on when I get up.

Only an affluent society can worry about things like this. The rest will eat what it can get.

According to the Historical Documents I have been watching, centered around a small diner in Arizona, 'grits' refers to a woman's buttocks.

Hopefully this wont end up like Pandora's box, but what specific proteins are you talking about that makes meat not something we should eat?
