    From--Muscle and Strength.com

    6) Have carbohydrates and protein in the same meal

    "...When you mix protein and carbohydrates together in the same meal you minimize the chance of the carbohydrates being stored as fat. Protein is harder for the body to process, so it increases your metabolism. Also, carbohydrates help transport the nutrients from protein to the muscle cells which aids in muscle growth.

    "Follow these rules, and you can use carbohydrates to your advantage to build more muscle faster. If you find you’re gaining too much fat then you should cut out carbs after 7pm. Unless you have a fast metabolism, eating carbs late at night is generally not a good idea. Your body does not need the energy while you’re sleeping so it’s likely to store the carbs as fat...."

    [Kind of leaves out feasting on chocolate chip cookies in the middle of the night, doesn't it?] :wink:

    OooooOOooooHHhhh carbsss! I love you so, you are an integral part of my life and if I couldn't have you the asian part of me would shrivel up and die. Yes we asians love love love carbs, and too not generalize and speak from a Bangladesh/Thai perspective, if you hadn't eaten carbs (particularly rice), you haven't eaten at all! ;)

    I can always lose weight faster if I cut carbs, but I know it's not a sustainable change for me. I cannot completely cut them out, I LOOOOVE them too much.

    Bread, pizza, mashed potatoes, PASTA...I am miserable without you guys.

    * sigh *

    I do miss my carbs. (Severe Type II diabetic here). Especially Cinnamon Buns, were my fav:

    I'm jealous of those of you that can enjoy these things regularly, LOL. For me to eat a cinnamon bun and STILL maintain glycemic control I have to follow 3 steps:

    1. Ride my bike 50km (30 miles) to a small-town coffee shop west of the city that makes amazing cinnamon buns,
    2. Eat said ooey-gooey cinnamon bun over the course of 20 - 30 minutes, then
    3. Ride 50km (30 miles still) back home at a very fast pace - at minimum 30km/h (19mph), ouch.

    I did this once with a CGMS (continuous glucose monitoring system) and found I didn't once spike anywhere near damaging levels.

    For the record - there is nothing wrong with enjoying carbohydrates if your body also enjoys carbohydrates. :smile:

    Sadly, mine doesn't, so I'll live vicariously through y'all's food-porn thread.
