running.... inside or outside?

I've yet to run a race indoors on a treadmill....why would I train that way?0

Outside, definitely. Since I started running a few months ago (yep, newbie here) I have run once on a treadmill. Hated every minute. Today I even ran outside in 90 degree weather. I'd rather do that than hop on a treadmill any day.0

Keep it up guys, I really like both, when it is hot and humid I tend to run indoors. But on a nice cool day, when the breeze is really nice, oh yeah its time for a run. it only gets better from here. I know you can do it. I have completed a half marathon. I lost 20 lbs from doing the 12 week training plan from August to October. Take care and always keep the faith.

Outside! I love being able to look at scenery. I occasionally run on the treadmill at my parents' house and I HATE it. No matter how tight my dad puts the belt for me, I always feel my feet slipping out from underneath me. And I feel like I am just running running running and getting nowhere.0

Outside. Most I can handle on Torture-mill is one mile.
I don't even think I could stick it out a mile on a dreadmill :noway:

I manage 5 mins on the treadmill and then collapse with boredom. i run out side and go to the gym to do classes/weights. Dreading winter as I'm going to have to get on the treadmill as the winters can be harsh.0 -

Zero miles on the treadmill

I like both.
I will run outside when the weather is a bit cooler and I don't lose several pints of blood from the mosquitoes and deer flies.
I run inside when I'm at the gym or it's winter/crappy/cold out. When I run on the TM at home I just throw on a show that I DVR'd and run for an hour.0 -
Outside is much better because a treadmill cannot prepare you for all possible conditions on race day including:
steep downhills
curvy roads
gravel, banked roads, branches, etc
very hot or cold weather
rain, snow, etc0 -

I prefer the treadmill, and usually watch TV or listen to an audiobook or podcast to stay entertained. I'll do the occasional race, but outside running is really hard on my joints, and I'd prefer to keep my original knees.
I love going for walks outside though - that's when I can actually take some time to enjoy the scenery and fresh air ... and not have to worry so much about keeping my pace while dodging dog poop and cars.0 -
... can't say I ever really "run" (walk/jog is about the best I do)... but I'm an indoor exerciser. I'm afraid of dogs, and it is nice to not have the weather (too hot, too cold) as an excuse. With five kids, it's also good to be able to go five miles, and yet be available immediately in case Mommy is needed. I admit, I also like my distractions, my TV or music (as many have said you shouldn't listen to music while jogging outdoors, as you need to be aware of your surroundings).
In addition to the treadmill, there are a couple indoor tracks - the Olympic Oval is nearby (Utah hosted the Winter Olympics several years ago) and we got a family pass there. It was a nice place to go jog ... and having Apollo Anton Ohno and other Olympians skating right next to the track can't help but be inspiring. There is also a track above the basketball court at the local gym where my boys play. I love jogging during their games/practices ... I can watch them, and again, can't help but feed off their energy (and not that I'm one of those out of control sports parents, but it does totally give my competitive energy a place to go rather than just yelling *Ü*).0 -
Right now, I am loving running outside. I run at a local high school track, so it's easier on my joints and there are less obstacles (dogs, cars, etc.). I am sure when the colder weather hits, I will probably head inside to a treadmill.0
