Lower Back Tattoos

Tattoos are art. Not all art is phenomenal, and neither all tattoos.
However, if someone doesn't have the fortitude to sit for the pain, they don't have a position with which to opine with any relevance.
Tattoos are art. 'Nuff said.0 -
I have one and I like it.... that's all that really matters..... you should get your tattoo for you.... not for anyone else.
^^^^Second^^^^ Just as piercings are generally viewed by others as "different" and described using select adjectives, so are tattoos described by others. Regardless of the locale or the design, it is a personal choice and it should not matter what anyone else thinks about it. Just my HO.0 -
OK I under stand everyones opinions about tattoos, BUT!!! If there is a forum about tattoos, why would you come to bash them?
Because the OP asked for opinions?
Actually, they asked about Lower back tattoos not all0 -
I have a lower back tattoo and I don't care if its "trashy" or not. The term tramp stamp never bothered me, it makes me laugh that someone actually thinks their opinion of something personal of mine even matters to me. I also have a wrist tattoo and am in the process of getting a tattoo that starts at one hip, reaches across my tummy to the other hip. I love the way the body looks tattooed and pierced. My tattoos are personal and were designed by me for me.0

I LOVE THIS ahahahaha. you are my new favorite.according to some of you I am trashy and have no class at all!
sweet jesus pass me another beer *burps*
:yawn:0 -
anyone who thinks a "tramp stamp" is not classy is probably someone who's easily offended or outraged.0

Yeah,OK I missed that.
But it doesn't seem to bother you that people that like tattoos are giving their opinion about ones other than lower back tattoos.
(btw have had a tattoo over 30 years)0 -
I think all tattoos are eyesores. They make attractive people look kind of trashy. Just my humble opinion.
I am forever trashy.
Dont worry dude, apparently I am too.
Wanna open a trailor park and crush some beer cans on our foreheads later?0 -
tattoos are sexy on guys---always ...girls however need to have a certain look to pull it off I think0
-
I got one 14 years ago. I still think it looks great & never once have I thought it was trashy or has anyone else said it was.0
-
I've always known it as a *kitten* mark or tramp stamp. love mine.

Wow, so many judgmental comments on here. I'd really like to know why some people find tattoos "trashy", as that is a word i see being thrown around a lot.
I don't have tattoos, but I love tattoo art, as well as hearing the stories behind them, whether it's on the lower back, or anywhere else.0 -
I have a full back piece from my neck to my butt. I love it and I get compliments on it all the time. The lower back tattoo or "tramp stamp" has definitely got a bad wrap thanks to popular porn stars, but tattoos are not for other people. They're for you. If you have one you think would look best there and it means a lot to you, there is no one standing in your way.
Do what YOU want to do. Don't worry about other people's opinions.
I hear this rationalization all the time, and disagree with it. People get tattoos for other people, not themselves. It's like saying you wear makeup for yourself. Say I like Superman; I know I like Superman, but I get the tattoo so that others know it too. It is an outward expression. One does not express oneself to oneself, they express themselves to others. It's a really cheap and shallow form of expression in my opinion, too. I would never reduce myself to expressing myself through designs painted on my body. End rant.
 Riiiight.0 -

I find tats on a woman hot as fvck.0 -
no problem with them at all. i have on my my outter shoulder, the green lantern symbol. stands for willpower, which i have always lacked so it is there to remind me.
now if it the "tramp stamp" is a target with the words aim here, then yea, kinda trashy, but at least it leaves no doubt in what to do....0 -
I got my tattoo when I was 44 on my lower back it is a celtic knot mirror I adore it, every line and every colour in my tattoo has deep thought and meaning behind it, it is a form of jewelrey that will never be duplicated. It is on my lower back and is quite large I did not know they were called tramp stamps until long after . Women have been called worse for less so take your pot shots I do not regret my decision to have it done.:bigsmile:0

can someone actually explain why a tramp stamp is trashy?0
-
I suppose they very well could be interesting or classy or whatever. I think what matters most is that they matter, and aren't just an impulse thing that they'll later grow to regret.0

tattoos everywhere =0

can someone actually explain why a tramp stamp is trashy?
^^^ this!!! Excellent question! Anyone know?0 -
can someone actually explain why a tramp stamp is trashy?
From what I understand it was because at some point it became the trendy thing to do for large groups of "loose women". Kind of like bleaching your hair very very blonde and getting an orange spray tan. Oh well though, I still really like mine.0 -
can someone actually explain why a tramp stamp is trashy?
Because lots of people view human bodies as sinful or something you should be modest about, so if you can see somebody's lower back tattoo, their body is exposed. Consequently, they must be immodest. If somebody is immodest, they must be "easy". If they are "easy" they must be trash. Good girls aren't "easy", they are modest.
Basically, people are quick to shame other people and their choices for moral superiority.0 -

sounds like those religious freaks that think *kitten* before marriage is a sin.0 -
I have a custom-drawn tribal work dragonfly over my sacrum, and no one has ever called it a tramp stamp. (I'd hit anyone who did.) I get a lot of compliments on it, actually.0

I think people who generalize and pass judgement don't have room to talk!
That being said, I have a lovely, tastefully done, sleeve of artwork. I am educated, well-read, and soft spoken.
Shame on you for being so close-minded.0 -

So I guess that people who get tattoos for sentimental reasons (i.e. children's names, a loved one, etc.) are doing that for other people... because other people will automatically understand those sentiments. People get tattoos for a variety of reasons - and a lot of people do it for themselves and to express themselves. It's not an all or nothing proposition.
As for it being 'cheap and shallow', there are many cultures in the world where tattoos are used to signify life achievements, milestones, status, etc. I guess they all do it because it's cheap though. So yeah, go ahead and keep the high ground there by not lowering yourself to the standards of those who do have tattoos.0 -

Really? You're ranting over this? Lol. Okay, Garlicbitter.0 -
I personally dont care for tattoos. I wouldnt get one.
Aside from the difficulty of having to choose an image that will be on your body forever, you have to deal with an artist who may or may not be up to snuff to your quality expectations. And for me, as an artist, Im picky as to what artwork I like and dont like, and the execution of said artwork.
More power to people who choose to get them though.0 -
i want to get a couple tattoos but afraid they'll fvck it all up and I'll be pissed it looks like crap.0
