Yes, when he gets older his eyes will turn an amber color. So I have to enjoy the green eyes while it lasts. :-)
His parents were both OFA'd and have good hip scores, but regardless of paperwork I will take it easy on him.

    Nice to see.

We ended up keeping a shortened name of the younger GSD's kennel name - Hary (that's how they spelled it). Our older one was named when my husband got him.

I'm not great on genetics, but yes German Shepherds carry the dilute gene as well. My previous Shepherd was aliver colored which I think is like the B locus gene or something. Here is a great website showcasing some of the GSD colors. Its amazing what genetics can do, and how much we dont know.

    http://www.bluedogs.8m.com/

If you're going to jog him, get him started on Glucosamine / Chondroitin / MSM supplements ASAP.
Its recommended to not jog / walk them for longer than 5 mins x age in months. I have two working German Shepherds and they weren't allowed to do any forced running (on leash) until 1.5 years old. If you take him to a fenced place and have him offleash while you run then that would be great!

Also.. I don't think GSDs have the dd gene... Which is the gene that causes dilutes. Dobermans and Great Danes do. Some people say labs do but its because some lines of them had Weims mixed in awhile back to create a sleeker coat for the working dogs.
He just looks like a light sable to me ? A mix between a bi color and a east sable is my guess..

    But very cute.. Enjoy him!

ALSO. So glad you went to a reputable breeder,,

    But, x-rays aren't everything.

When my pup had his hips done at 2 years old, he was OFA excellent, it was required because he is a competitive sports dog (Protections, SAR, Herding). We had them done again a few months ago at 3 1/2 years old because he got a limp in his rear left leg and his right leg is Good with his left leg being 'fair' and on its way to being dysplastic. Not to scare you or anything but genetics are wonky. Hes been on supplements since 6 weeks old and is fed a raw diet. His siblings all have great hips, he was just the odd one out. ):
Again, I wish you luck with your pup, so glad you didnt get him from a BYB :)

I jog with my goldendoodle Remy.. It helps wear him out and when he's going faster it motivates me to go faster...

    Good Jogging partner for sure!

I miss my German Shepard I had for 12 years. He was named Quincey, he was very noble. He saved my life and woke me up from my house fire. I ADOPTED him from a shelter he was about 2 yrs old then, I only had him for 2 months when I had the fire.. He liked to run and his tail knocked things over all the time. Blu or Disel is going to be a big boy. Wow, your going to just love him. (Quincey would also jump over his 6 ft high coop we built a roof over it to stop him). Best dog I ever had.

Its very true, screening and good breeding is stacking the deck in your favour but no guarantee. Hope its manageable in your dog.

I would name him Alcide after the werewolf in True blood.

but I name my dogs after nerdy things. My Malamute was named Lex (as in Luther) and I had a mutt named Vader. I lost both about four years ago. My dogs I have now are all named after either superheros or You tube videos! Enjoy your runs with your beautiful new jogging partner!

I love Sables, We plan on getting a second GSD and A Sable is what we have in mind. However since we like to be adventurous, we will be getting a Liver Sable. :)
