do you want a cookie on top?0

They said you are what you eat. I really didnt want to eat ripped muscular men so I settled on eating foods that are awesome instead. Pizza, bacon cheeseburgers, ice cream, poptarts, poptarts with ice cream....ALL AWESOME. I eat them , therefore I am awesome.0

Enjoy your CVD and diabetes
My first reaction, too. But to eat his own, right?
If you are happy with the outside, who really cares about the inside? (I do!)
Your argument is lacking; enjoying the occasional treat or a FEW treats does not destroy the inside of your body. If if it is on a regular basis, it should not be problematic given the small portions that were referenced.
Am I missing something?0 -
There's a lot of angry people on these forums due to their misery that other people can indulge and maintain their goals whilst the "healthy" elitists eat tasteless kaka and have to pretend they like it. I even see this at my gym. Sometimes I'll have a Snickers bar as my post-workout snack and some people will act like I killed their pet. If these people were actually happy with their healthy lives, they wouldn't get so offended.
Love this^

You could easily fit things like ice cream and cheesecake into 1360 calories a day and still hit quality macro goals.
Your excuse that you just can't fit it is invalid.
Right now I have my goals set at 1800 calories and my favorite ice cream is 1,040 calories for a pint and let's just say a pack of poptarts is 400 calories...On a 1360 intake, I would be over just from those two things.
Yes it is very possible to fit a serving of ice cream into 1360 calories and still hit your targets but it seems like the implication of this post is "I can eat a pint of ice cream and a pack of poptarts every day and still lose weight" and for most of us, that isn't true.
That was the point of the OP if it fits with in your caloric intake and Macro's then by all means have what foods you enjoy... The OP daily intake even in a deficit is a little over 3200 so a pint of ice cream and a couple pop tarts would fit with in his day.. but even a person eating 1300 calories a day can fit in some ice cream and whatnot just not in the same quantity....
But what of the phyto-nutrients that I am bumping out of my diet in order to accommodate said ice cream? I'd rather not invite cancer into my life either, thank you very much.
I guess I am missing something here, your telling me you have to give up your plant based foods to fit a serving of Ice cream into your day?? phyto-nutrients can be found in grains, nuts, (your plant based foods), beans, etc.... Using me as an example I eat a 9 cup salads with beans, veggies, etc daily, as well as almonds, grind my own peanuts (VitaMix blender) to make peanut butter, eat a ton of chicken and fish and veggies and still manage to fit in some pop tarts and ice cream and anything else I feel like having... I use to be addicted to food, when I was 560 lbs. and eating over 10,000 calories a day I had no choice but to empty the house of all my trigger foods. but as I worked through my food addictions and changed my relationship with food. I learned to reintroduce those foods into my diet. I do not consider any food as bad, if it fits within my caloric intake and Macro's (Micro's too) then it is fair game...0 -
Enjoy your CVD and diabetesSome people just want to lose weight.
Some people want to actually be healthy.
Enjoy your crappy processed foods.
Enjoy the view from your high horse.
HAHAHA I wish I had a Thumbs Up button for that one..
I too believe in not deprieving myself but watching my portions. I'd much rather steadily lose than deprieve myself and end up binging and jumping off the wagon. IF you chose to eat clean and unprocessed foods great for you but this site was intended to be a motivational site and not one to knock someone down. There are plenty of people out there that continue to lose or have lost by eating which you call dirty foods or processed foods. Obviously clean eating isn't the only way to eat and lose.
In the three years since I stopped eating sugary foods, I have not binged once. I make two exceptions to the no-sweets rule. I eat three shortbread cookies on Christmas day and I eat a tiny piece of cake on my birthday. I space them out over the course of the day because I find them sickeningly sweet if eaten all at once. Moderation is NOT eating trash and then spending hours working out to compensate for the wasted calories.0 -

Eating ice cream everyday is not moderation and is ridiculous, for anyone actually even someone not trying to lose weight.
What? Sacrilege I say. I eat ice cream most days. I lose weight. I like ice cream and there is no reason I shouldn't eat it.0 -
Weight loss is to become healthy. So why eat like a slob?
How am I eating like a slob?
Diary from yesterday:

Dinner
Coca-Cola - Cherry Coke Zero 12oz Can, 12 oz

Kellogg's - Pop-Tart - Frosted Red Velvet, 2 pastry
General Mills Cheerios Plain - Plain Cherrios, 56 g

It's not McDonald's, but there is still a lot of bad stuff on your diet. Lots of high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and GMO-food. Also soy is estrogenic (edamame). Once in a while, it might be ok to indulge (yes, I do it), but don't kid yourself! Every day like this isn't healthy.0 -
I think some people are misunderstanding the whole point here. I don't think anyone is actually saying that it is OK to cut out all healthy food sources and eat ONLY pizza, pop tarts and ice cream (at least I would hope not!). But you can still be healthy on the inside (using a previous poster's own words) and look good on the outside and not be riddled with disease if you make sure you meet your protein and fat minimums, eat up to your calorie goal for either fat loss or muscle gain (or maintenance, if you are there) while still adding in some tasty "non-clean" foods like pizza, pop tarts, and ice cream. It's friggin silly to cut things completely out of your nutrition, unless you really enjoy the inevitable binge from time to time since you have completely denied yourself what you like for a long time.
My labs at the doctor's office have never been better and my body fat % has never been lower. And I eat pizza and ice cream all the time. I don't care for pop tarts, but if I did, I would simply laugh at all the food police whining at me for having one just like I do as I am eating my full fat pizza slice.0 -
I'll eat anything as log as its cooked from scratch from raw ingredients in a kitchen by me or another human.0

This made me a little sad, actually. I think I'm gonna have some cookies and milk (full fat even) on your behalf.0 -
Just because "it fits your macros" that does not mean it is nutritious or good for you in any way. Eating this way is just fine for those who would like to make room for this stuff. I don't get that much enjoyment from junk so I tend to not eat it often. A pack of pop tarts and pizza make me feel drained, bloated and irritable. I like to feel good after I eat.0

What? Sacrilege I say. I eat ice cream most days. I lose weight. I like ice cream and there is no reason I shouldn't eat it.
I buy a different flavor of ice cream every weekend when I am grocery shopping...
Moderation doesn't only mean you can only eat it once a month or something like that. It means to not have a *kitten* ton of calories of it whenever you do have it.
My calorie goal for fat loss is 1800. I typically meet my protein and fat goals by the time I hit 1500-1600 calories. There is not a damn thing wrong with having the remaining calories of chocolate peanut butter ice cream, if I so choose. To NOT eat the last 200 calories would be the unhealthy thing to do, and since I've already eaten ALL the vitamins, minerals, and macros that my healthy body needs, I intend to have something enjoyable instead of munching on carrot sticks.0 -
To throw a few cents in, as a beginner... labeling people as "slobs" if they eat (even in moderation!) processed foods or "junk" foods, scoffing at the idea that someone who wants to be lighter or healthier could ever even WANT to eat these things, etc.-- these are ALL reasons why people get driven away from healthy lifestyles or lifestyles of moderation, why they give up on diets or eat "bad" foods in private and overeat.
Vehement judgment of folks for what they choose to eat-- even in moderation!-- is what gives people that "Oh crap, I slipped up and ate something I wanted, I may as well give up forever, I'm worthless and stupid" mentality that basically leads into MORE problems... and an unhealthy relationship with food.
It's pretty much been demonstrated that it's a bad plan to tell teens how bad and wrong and dirty and worthless they are if they have premarital sex because it creates a lack of self-worth and a whole host of issues. Why would it ever be okay to do that same darn thing with food?0 -

100 calories of junk is still JUNK -.-

I'm glad that I don't have this overwhelming "bad" feeling after eating delicious foods. That only happens when I overeat, and that can also happen when I overeat veggies and fruits.0 -
Speaking of crappy processed foods...has anyone tried the mega stuffed golden oreos??? They are delicious. Like a mouth full of heaven.
These are soooooo good! I like to dip them in dark chocolate almond milk!
In regards to the OP: I had tried cutting what people consider "bad" foods from diet, but for me it didn't work. It wasn't until I came here that I found out about this crazy concept called moderation (old profile). It was a life saver for me. I started eating 80 to 90 percent clean but I could still have a serving of Oreos and a glass of almond milk if it fit into my goals. Even at 275lbs o was netting 1400 calories and practicing moderation and I lost weight. Throughout my weightless I have also been able to come off of all my depression meds, all of my stomach medicine, all pain medicine (except for Aleve on occasion), and my high blood pressure medicine. I am at 145 lbs at 5'6" and my body fat is just over 19%. I think I am doing pretty good.
I am maintaining at 2300-2400 calories a day, and thank you to all those who have helped me along the way. Your willingness to share your knowledge is greatly appreciated.0 -

Foodie elitism and absolutism is becoming the prevailing wisdom for many despite the lack of evidence they bring to the table from CREDIBLE sources.
What is a "credible" source? Every time someone mentions a scientific article or a study, it gets shuts down by other people who don't want to believe in it because it's against their lifestyle. And if we mention an expert in the field, he gets accused of being paid by the "big corporations" or he just want to make money by selling his health books or supplements, etc.0 -

I exercise, primarily for body comp., an hour a day 6 days a week. That's hardly spending hours working out to compensate for "wasted calories". You really have a hard time understanding that most people aren't infirmed and have higher, than yours, TDEE.
I don't really consider my walks at work exercise. I do log them though, so I guess maybe I do. They're really just a mental break from my desk (although I do just monitor emails on my phone the whole time so...meh)0 -
This is so turning into a 'OH NOES YOU WILL GET CANCER IF YOU DON'T EAT PERFECT' thread, methinks.
I'll go back to eating my GMO soy and non-organic products in silence now.0 -

name the food and i can find an amount you can eat of that food that will make you feel drained, bloated, and irritable too.
all food contains nutrients. so by definition, all food is nutritious. you can mix and match foods based on their nutritional content to create a healthy and satisfying diet. people who approach health and fitness in this way are much less likely to have maintenance problems down the road. i suspect they'll also live MUCH happier lives. people who don't follow that approach will always be bitter and judgemental towards those who do.0 -

This. So this...
:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
I used to be a healthy "clean" eater and I used to be one of those annoying pricks to harass others about not being like me.
Then I learned about nutrition and health, and then I relaxed. And amazingly enough, I didn't implode when I started eating what I like again. In fact, my lean mass as increased, my fat mass has decreased, I've had more energy, my strength in the weight room has increased, and I am not pissed off about not being able to eat Thanksgiviing Dinner anymore. And my most recent doctor's visit for a regular check-up (March this year) was my best ever, even when I was all gung ho about "clean" eating.0 -
"Eat in moderation" I try to eat healthy as best as I can. I do a low carb, low fat, high protein diet. I also count my sugars.
Do I have a slice of pizza? Yes
Do I have ice cream? Yes, but it will be no sugar added (for instance the other night my husband wanted a half priced sonic shake.. so I told him to go on. I went in the kitchen got a cup of no sugar added icecream a little bit of milk and 2 sugar free oreo off brand cookies and blended them up) So good. It had 337 calories. My husbands shake had close to 1000 calories.. and over 100 g of sugar. So not worth it to me!)
It is not healthy to eat pop tarts everyday. You have to treat yourself but again not everyday. I am doing this not only for myself but for my health. Diet is key in weight loss and keeping it off.0 -
In for the food porn, and then ran into the endless pointless debate.
0 -
you can have something everyday and it still being in moderation, its called serving sizes. sure if I sit down and eat a half gallon of ice cream everyday thats not moderation or if i sit down and eat a box Oreos thats not moderation. but if I enjoy a serving of Oreos everyday and I still have my other macro/micro nutrients there is nothing wrong with that and i am healthy have great blood pressure and great cholesterol levels.0
