Why is it when I am dating a girl, they always want me to meet their friends and family? Is it a mocha thing?

I'm the opposite. The thought of a guy I'm dating meeting my family (3 older brothers and crapton of uncles) scares the begeezus out of me. No thanks. Not sure if it's a matter of him not measuring up or them scaring the hell out of the guy, but just... no.

ETA: I did bring exactly two guys home to meet the fam: my uncle made fun of one for looking like a model (it was NOT meant as a compliment) and my very Cajun grandfather asked the other if he was (I(eye)-talian) based on his last name. In fairness, he was Italian. haha

.. is it not normal to meet your significant other's friends and family? i don't get why this is a problem lol if its strictly sex then i totally understand, but if i'm dating someone and its a few months into the relationship and it is getting serious i want them to meet my friends and family - partly for approval and partly to show him off haha

I'm shallow and insecure. The fact that I was able to land a guy at all is a miracle. I just want to point at him and say "See? I'm not a total loser after all!"

If my bragging offends anyone, don't fear. He only lets me out with him once a month or so. Usually when it's dark outside and pretty late.

Men can generally compartmentalize better than women. You're my woman, that's my family, these are my friends. Women want you involved.

I'll have them meet my friends after a couple of weeks of dating to get their honest opinion. I've had problems with wearing rose-tinted glasses. As for meeting my family, I try to avoid that as much as possible.

I make women pay to show me off. I have yet to earn a dollar doing this though.

Girls who need to do this are insecure and desperate to get you so involved with their lives that you feel like you cant get out. . It's one thing to meet the family and friends, but all in due time. Your second date should not be at her parents house.

I believe you are correct. However, "mocha" is.

I think it is partly to show off the boyfriend, but also to seek approval from their friends and family. It's asking if they think he is an okay guy or does he have some d bag tendencies that I am overlooking because the relationship is new. My friends always make me judge their boyfriends, but never listen when I tell them what I really think.

If I were to "show off" a guy, it would be because I think he's a wonderful person who my friends and family deserve to have in their lives. The reverse is true, too; I love my family and they mean a lot to me, so I'd want all my important people to know and respect each other.

Unfortunately, I'm not so lucky...and I don't like "showing off."

I'm the total opposite - my boyfriend and I got in a fight when we first started dating. His feelings were hurt that I didn't rush to introduce him to my friends/family. Guess I'm private like that - would rather keep my friends & family to myself until I know it's serious :)

^This. It's how we multitask and make time for everyone.
