What causes obesity?

Is it that we are creatures of habit and get carried along on food routine but take it a little too far?
Do you think we just feel hungry all the time and over compensate with what we eat?
Maybe, it is eating socially and we just get carried away with the food that we choose from the menu?
Is it because we think we should fill up with food because we are so busy that it could be some time before we get to eat again?
Have you just exercised and think you can now reward yourself with food?
What is the reason for obesity in your opinion?

My parents teaching me to clean my plate after every meal.
Using food as rewards.
High fructose corn syrup and all the other chemical additives to foods.
Just to name a few, ultimately it is your choice why you are obese. Mine was because I have had 5 foot surgeries on my left foot and I used that as an excuse.0 -
Obviously carbs, specifically fructose. And evil corporations that want to get us fat and keep us sick0

Too much food, not enough movement.
And laziness. Lots of laziness.0 -

That's pretty much it. We have this notion that everything we put in our mouth has to be absolutely the most delicious thing we've ever had, and that usually means alot of excess sweets/salt/sugar etc... Couple that with our ridiculous portion sizes, and it's a recipe for large weight gain.0 -
Certainly not lack of self control.0

I think the overly simple answer is modern conveniences, boxed foods, convenience foods, not having anything chasing me, lol :blushing:0

Yep a lot of things in the article that are true!0 -
A hyper-caloric diet without enough activity to offset it will cause obesity every time.0

eating in surplus + zero physical activity = obesity ....

And laziness. Lots of laziness.
I understand the laziness aspect, but playing devil`s advocate, a lot of people lead busy lives working or looking after the children..so how do they find the time to move?0 -

I know lots of people with kids and they make time to move..either get up at four am in the morning and go the gym, run, etc..or have a home gym and work out from home..work out on lunch break at work ..etc etc..if you want to find an excuse to not move then you easily can ..0 -
I blame the Obama's.0

the intestine shut down at 5:59pm and you go into starvation mode, which causes, on average, five pound per day weight increase...0 -

That's an invalid excuse. I'm friends with MANY people on here who lead extremely busy lives and they manage to find the time. It's all about priorities.
But also, as someone else said, eat less then.0 -

Million dollar question. If anyone can effectively answer this they'll be rolling in the dough. Personally, there are many factors that cause obesity disease, environment, psychological, lack of knowledge, habits, poor community planing, stigmatization of obesity along with increasing acceptance, this "pull yourself up by the boot strap mentality" which does not serve to help an individual deep in the throws of an obesigenic lifestyle, addictive behaviors...ect ect.0

I know plenty of people with young children that could easily "make" the time. Hell, alot of kids these days are "appeased" with television shows and they sit and stare at them for extended periods of time. If someone really wants to be active, they can...most don't.0 -
