    Not famously, but the best karaoke rendition of House of the Rising Sun I have ever heard was done by a woman. It gave me goosebumps it was so good.

    just because it's interesting:

    House of the Rising Sun was originally about prostitution and the house of the rising sun was a brothel, and more commonly sung by women... it's a folk song of uncertain origin

    the Animals' version uses adapted the lyrics so it would make sense being sung by a man, about gambling/a casino rather than prostitution. Personally I think either version could be sung by a man or a women, because there are men who are prostitutes and women who have gambling problems.

    there are many versions of house of the rising sun on you tube, by men and women, even duran duran... the above two were the oldest ones I could find but it's a very old song so there could be earlier versions out there.
