Why Limit Dairy?

I milk, cheese, and greek yogurt... but the feelings aren't mutual... they don't love me back.
Gut reaction, thick "milk mouth" (creates mucus in my mouth/throat), and it halts my "regularity". :sick:0 -
Unless you are allergic to something, and as long as it is not contaminated or inherently poisonous or harmful, there is no reason to not eat anything, within the context of a varied diet that includes a majority of whole, unprocessed foods with at least a roughly even breakdown of macronutrients...
If you're lactose sensitive, you shouldn't be asking why limit, but TELLING why limit it I have friends who share too much and it's not pretty0 -

I limit my dairy intake primarily because it's very calorie dense unless you're doing low fat/no fat...which is just a waste of time and money IMHO. If you're going to do dairy, do it right and enjoy all the flavorful fat..but I have to limit it to avoid turning back into a big fat *kitten*.
I used to drink about 1/2 gallon of whole milk per day and 1/2 Lb of good sharp cheddar cheese just for a snack.
Hmmm, I don't find lowfat/no fat more expensive at all. And it's nice that they are low carb too because im diabetic.0 -
Have it if you want it. I don't drink it because I am concerned about bone density. It also seems strange to me to drink another animal's breastmilk or any at all, since I am not an infant. I mean all of this respectfully, it's just that I'm pretty set in my ways about that.0

Hello. I eat alot of dairy as in Greek yogurt 0% fat and 12g carbs per serving and Silluette Yogurt 0% fat 5g per 100gram serving. Tons of yogurt I eat along with cheddar cheese a few times a week. I occassionally eat low fat sour cream too. Why do some people think we should limit our dairy? Am I eating too much dairy?
Ah yes, that fat free zone. You eat a lot of chemical thickeners too. Tasty!
No reason to limit dairy unless you are:
1. Lactose Intolerant
2. a PETA member
3. Strict Vegan (Why would you do that?!)
That's it. Some people think it should be limited because it can be a significant source of empty, sugar carbs. Which is primarily the problem with the non and lowfat versions. Additionally, many of them are bereft of any beneficial flora. Drink raw, drink live stuff, don't worry about it, and go be awesome.
There's not much sugar in the lowfat yogurts that I eat. 5gcarbs per 100g and with greek yogurt 12g per 3/4 cup. Not too bad at all!0 -
I had to eliminate dairy due to intolerance. No digestion issues, but it stuffs up my sinuses pretty bad, like people think I had a cold 24/7/365. As soon as I stopped eating dairy, my sinuses cleared.
So I have almond milk and goat cheese instead. Seems to be only cow dairy gives me issues.0 -

This is a legitimate concern. For people who use their voice for a living such as singers, actors, public broadcasters, etc, eliminating a food like dairy can be simply because it has undesirable effects on vocal mechanism rather than other health reasons.0 -
As a vegetarian, it's hard to get enough protein for me to meet my weight loss goals. I've recently started including whey protein for breakfast, and I do a serving of plain Greek yogurt mid-morning, and then either raw yogurt cheese or a serving of cottage cheese in the afternoon. So I'm at about 3 servings a day and I really don't think I could make my protein goals without it. I'm sure I could eat large quantities of plant protein, maybe I'm lazy. I have gone 6 months without any dairy at all at times and for me, organic, high quality dairy works. I agree with what everyone is saying about if it works for you, don't worry about limiting it.0

As a vegetarian, it's hard to get enough protein for me to meet my weight loss goals. I've recently started including whey protein for breakfast, and I do a serving of plain Greek yogurt mid-morning, and then either raw yogurt cheese or a serving of cottage cheese in the afternoon. So I'm at about 3 servings a day and I really don't think I could make my protein goals without it. I'm sure I could eat large quantities of plant protein, maybe I'm lazy. I have gone 6 months without any dairy at all at times and for me, organic, high quality dairy works. I agree with what everyone is saying about if it works for you, don't worry about limiting it.
Beans beans beans! And grains (quinoa is a great source of protein). Also egg whites, peas, spinach, kale, nut butters, nuts. It can be done! As a pescetarian, even if I didn't eat fish once a day, I'd get plenty of protein. I actually get too much protein as it is.0 -

Well considering how high carb and low protein/fat you are going, then go for it. Wouldn't work for me, but if it works for you, enjoy! Personally, I don't experience any semblance of satiety when I eat fat free, modified foods.0 -

I think they mean in terms of a grain it's a better choice than say a side of white rice, or brown rice. I can't stand brown rice but I'll happily take a side of quinoa, not to mention it has other nutritional benefits besides protein.0
