    It's hilarious how people get so worked up over a book and if you give it a month or so it's really not going to matter because people will stop talking about it.

    I don't see why people get so bent out of shape about this book lol. It's a BOOK. It's not REAL. It was not written with the purpose of giving you an intellectual orgasm. It's a smut, corny romance novel just like the billion Harlequin romances that came before it. It's just like Magic Mike. There was basically no plot and it randomly ended without tying up any knots but let's be real, no one went to go see it for the compelling storyline.

    I read this book and was truly disgusted with the girl Ms. Swan?? I wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up. Tell the *kitten* boyfriend to get lost. I didn't like the storyline at all.

    I thought it was a wonderful read, of course I'm talking about the review, the book was a piece of crap. The reviewer is obviously a much more accomplished writer than E. L. James, too bad she's not the one rolling around in her piles of money.

    OMG! You could have given me a spit-take warning here...I'm at work for chrissake and I'm laughing so damn hard....I'm surely going to get fired for having a sense of humor. I'm reading the book right now and all I can say is...really, since when did torture become exciting? and I hadn't heard about the tampon scene, and I'm even less excited to read about it now...eww...

    It is an erotica... it's basically book porn... so yeah plot? sucks... but really when watching actual porn do you expect amazing acting and a super intense plot? no, well it's the same with Erotica books... Either way I'm an avid reader of Erotica and many other types of books from very well known writers and I really liked the series. Compare it to many other erotica's... it was great! Compare it to some Danielle Steel, Jackie Collins, Stephen King etc... sucks!! People need to compare it to other books from the same genre... :wink:

    I would guess that most people who dislike this book and say bad things about it, don't read Erotica books, ever. Then they go and compare them to the books you mentioned. I think in reality most people are ignorant and get the idea that it's a forbidden subject somewhere along the lines or something to read those books, just like a lot of girls are against porn. IMO. I try to keep an open mind. When I first heard it i didn't know what it was. WHen I learned that it was an Erotica book, I knew it wasn't going to be a great plot, but even then I still find it highly intriguing. Maybe it helps that I have an open mind when it comes to sexual stuff, when most people don't tend to. :\

    I was drawn in by everyone raving about how great it was (seriously how did I not see anyone saying it sucked before I got them? ugh!) I liked them at first. I really liked the characters because I knew they were twilight fanfiction and I just kind of melded the two in my mind, but after having finished reading them (I stopped less than a quarter way through book three I couldn't take any more) and really letting things sink in I can't believe I ever liked the characters. They are obnoxious, the sex is extremely boring, and it was a waste of my time. Oh well.

    I disagree...I've got a very open mind, no objection to porn, etc....I just found this book SO badly written, that MY Inner Goddess wanted to smash the Book against the wall!

    Same here, I read erotica and compared it to erotica. The writing sucked, and the sex sucked. If you liked it though, good for you. Whatever floats your boat.

    You shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions about why people dislike this series. I've read a lot of erotica and romance novels, so I have no problem with any sort of sexual stuff. I've read my fair share of BDSM stuff as well. So, I have a lot of stuff to compare this book to and it falls short compared to any erotic and/or romance novel I have ever read in terms of the plot, writing and the sexual stuff.

    Literotica.com has better erotic fiction and it's free.

    Also, just because it's erotica doesn't excuse it from not having some sort of plot that doesn't revolve around sex. At least that's what I think.

    It's this kind of ignorant trash that sets feminism back decades. Women who defend this book are, however unwittingly, participating in some of the most blatant misogyny I've ever witnessed, giving the impression that some women enjoy being debased, abused, and controlled (outside of a consensual dom/sub relationship). This is not a book about BDSM, this is a book about one sick, abusive man and his obsession with a young, naive invertebrate. It's a book about a girl who has absolutely no sense of self, who sacrifices any pretense of individuality in order to hold onto a man who doesn't even show her the faintest glimmer of respect. It's about two attention-starved individuals with the emotional maturity of toilet paper convincing themselves that their relationship is 'like, the best thing ever, OMG'. It's trite, insulting, and dangerous. I fear for any impressionable young women who read this and think that this is how an ideal relationship should operate. If nothing else, it should be issued as a guidebook to mothers around the world to show their daughters the kind of man to avoid at all costs. This book does good men (and indeed, all of humanity) a disservice.

Ariel sacrificed her family and who she was for a man she barely knew at the age of 15 lol. Can we talk about THAT? I think its HILARIOUS that so many people are getting their panties in a wad over a stupid book. I read all three of the books and I wasn't offended at all because it's NOT REAL. It was written for entertainment purposes ONLY. When people watch porn do they expect it to have a compelling storyline? NO. I personally found it entertaining and funny. It's exactly like the corny Harlequin romance novels that they sell at the drug store. I've been reading those since I was a teenager and you don't see me letting my boyfriend abuse me lol. Also, I don't really find Christian to be abusive to be completely honest. Over protective and crazy? Yes. Abusive? No. What's wrong with getting spanked in the bedroom?! lol I can't believe so many people are so angry over this book. The best part about it is that the fuss just makes the book more popular because it makes people buy it out of curiosity.

    I realize that when I read an Erotica, or fantasy book, I realize it's not REAL. It's fantasy, imagination. That's it. Maybe too many people will think that women will really want a relationship like that. Idk. I wouldn't, ever. But I still enjoyed reading it.

    I got pushed into reading this by coworkers and let me tell ya....they all said it was great....after reading just half the book ::::blush:::: I think I work with a bunch of kinky co workers!!! +++TMI+++ and no I don't think its great. Plus....she writes American terrible!!! Who was she fooling???

    Oh well...I will read the trilogy and then make a profit on ebay.....they are going for much dinero on there. I tried buying my copies cheap and cheap wasn't happening {{gasp, intake of breath}}

    Amazon had the cheapest price for the tril if anyone is interested! I can at least get my money back!

    There is a plot. It may not be the best ever plot. But there is one there. I don't read a lot of erotica novels. So yes, I enjoyed them. And I stated my opinion, it wasn't a conclusion. Also just because you thought it was an awful series doesn't mean someone else will. Not everyone likes the same things. Again, I was stating what I thought, not a conclusion.

    I did not read it or do I have the desire to read it. But several of my friends did and I was the beneficiary of their enjoyment of the book. So it get a thumbs up from me (as long as I never have to read it)

    I realize this too; I know it's fantasy and that it's not real. But, what makes this book so bad in my opinion is that women are going around wanting their own Christian Grey... and that, to me, is very scary.

    And I never implied anything about anyone else's opinion. If people want to like this series that's fine. I, personally think it sucks and so I stated that as best as I could. I didn't mean to imply anything about anyone else's opinion. I, like you, was just stating my opinion and explaining why I, personally, disliked this book.

    If there's a plot for the first book, would you please give me a brief summary of it?! I got about halfway though the book and didn't notice much of anything resembling a plot other than the sex, so I'm curious to hear what it was.

    It's Twilight fanfiction with the names changed. Really, the only way it could go was down, and in terms of "would you want to meet these people in real life" its actually worse.

    I'd hate the **** out of Bel- I mean whatsherface. (Honestly, she's made to be bland so the reader HAS to replace her dismal personality with their own. That's just horrific writing in its essence) on principle and I'd despise Edw- I mean Christian because he's a total chode and a domineering *kitten*.
